zoiDman,

A clamp is a very good idea. Sadly I had to sell all mine several years ago. I could've told everybody to use a bearing press but most people don't know what that is. Or you could use a drill press most people know what that is but don't have one. :)

Yeah, A Drill Press would work great. but like you said, most people do not have one.

I have one but looked for something that most people either have or can be bought for 10 Bucks or so. nd that type of clamp comes in very Handy for all kinds of things.

No leaking so far, keeping fingers crossed. I'm still playing around with the wiring, will let everyone know how this works out.
How did you get the top collar off? After removing it, are you able to snap it back on? I have been looking for a way to pull that sillycone cup out for an experiment without ruining a Stardust or having to hammer one apart.

The metal band around the top will come off. But in your case it's not necessary. The cup which also has a metal piece inside will fit through the hole without having to remove that band. Use a bent paperclip to pull it out. It may come out at a slight angle and then all of a sudden pop out so keep an eye on it. The silicone is very soft so it won't take much to pull it out. It's also pretty easy to get back in.

That and who doesn't Like Hitting something with a Hammer?

I for one have a "Hammer Box". It's a place to put things that are Broken or Don't Work. Or things that Work but Work Poorly. Or just things that Piss You Off.

About once a Month when I'm in a Bad Mood, like after I write out the Bills, I will take the Hammer Box out in the Backyard and Smash the Living Crap out of all the items.

Sometimes it's with a 10lbs Engineering Hammer. Sometimes I use the Ball End of a Ball Peen Hammer. Depends on the Item and the Amount of Destruction I want to Achieve per Hammer Blow.

So I can Understand a Person Reaching for a Hammer to remove a Fussy Stardust Tube.

I know I was thinking about it.

Zoidster this is hilarious, you got me rolling on the floor cracking up man !

This is just a zinger and meant to be funny OK , But,,,,How much do you guys wanna bet they will make em even harder to get apart or they will make em to break em if you try, as well as come out with something newer sooner then L8TR that you will all like even better then Stardust :) this is the way the Chinese think, if they only made one Carto Everyone would only buy once and mod em all the time then the Chinese would lose massive sales and share of market quickly. So keep your eyes open and call me on this if you dont think another carto will be sold soon thet will either be better or harder to mod :) AGAIN MEANT TO BE FUNNY ahhahahahahha

Of course, even with a Stardust, the tanks eventually break (I've broken two) and the O rings get lost or torn, so they don't last forever but point taken that sales would reduce if people could extend their lives for, say, several months rather than weeks which is I'm sure what they imagined.

But, if the design is popular (and I think it is genius) and the demand for rebuildable, temporary, inexpensive cartos is strong, I'm sure someone, somewhere will meet market demands.

Glad you liked it.

If you Don’t have a Hammer Box, you ought to get one.

Great for releasing all those Pent Up Hostilities you have for a DVD Burning that makes coasters every 3 DVD-R’s. Or that Stupid Ice-Maker that won’t turn off when the Ice Cube Bin is Overflowing.

LOL or that broken water line to your shower that has no access panel to the plumbing.

I could have a BIG party at my house and never have to worry about anyone not having a nice coaster. Lot's of pretty colored ones even.

Did you know you can take a heat gun to those suckers and form some nice shapes in them? lol

I've got a Heat Gun.

So you're say'n that it works for more things that Army Men and Heat Shrink Tubing?

Interesting.

Might have to Upgrade my Hammer Box to a Hammer/Heat Gun Box. A "HHGB" for short.

I purchased Stardust from non-US store and look what I got.

A metal part is sticking out from the center pole and inserted to mouse tip. I'm not sure because I live in Tokyo and bought it from local store but they all came from China anyway so you might get same batch soon (or not).

So, you may be no problem if you use metal pipe and hammer method but I just use regular clip to pull out silicone and metal part to make sure I won't break any parts.

Hope it helps :)

Nice find Robbie.

So I see he pulls the bottom metal ring off first. I also like the idea off pushing the coil/wick down with a pusher, though i didn't see him push the silicone ring away from the coil.

Also looks like one off the first run models, though it would probably work on the extra tight ones as well.

Removing the bottom metal sleeve DEFIANTLY won't work on the 2nd batch. I had one literally rip apart on me the other day when I was trying to do a thorough cleaning on my wifes carto. It already had a ton of hairline fractures in it. But then again, everyone I have ever bought (10 so far) has had this straight out of the box. But this one literally cracked all the way around the metal sleeve when I tried to pull it apart.

I'd be happy as a pig in .... if my carto's came apart as easy as this guys did in that video. lol

Big-D - If you watch it again you can see where he pushes the coil wick assembly down a little past where it should set then he raises the coil/wick up just a tad. This would give it the gap between the coils and the silicone ring that you are talking about.

Now... where in the hell can I get extra tubes that fit like this guys does. Unfortunately I need to order some before I'm SOL. :(

I started pushing down the cup inside the center after I noticed one of the first ones I rewired getting a funky taste. I use a paperclip and gently push it down. It definitely makes a difference.

I really like the method that he used taking the metal skirt off the bottom, but I agree I don't think the ones from the second batch would withstand the stress without cracking more.

Haven't tried this method (yet) of taking apart a Stardust but looks pretty easy!

LOL

That's Funny because that is what I tried to do when I First got my Stardust.

BTW - Think how Cool it would be If the Tube just Screwed Onto the Base and the OEM Sold Replacement Coil/Wick Assemblies.
