Hi folks,

I'd like to know if anyone has a suggestion for a solid tobacco base? I'm hope to make my own versions of some of my favorite juices but while I work towards that goal, I'll need to vape something to hold me over. And I'd really like to find a tobacco base I can use as a foundation to experiment with and build on.

I'm not a big fan of the dry, peppery versions that I've wasted too much money on. I prefer rich, broad, slightly-to-somewhat sweet tobacco tastes. For example, I love Vermillion River's KPB and AVE's Gorilla juice and and I hope to make my own versions of those at some point. But for now, does anyone have any recipes for a base that has some of the elements of the juices I listed that I could use as a starting point?

Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

- Tim

BAH! I didn't mean to post this in the recipes forum. Can a Moderator move this to the DIY E-liquid forum please?

If you use the ejuicemeup calculator, the Kentucky Clone, which is in the recipe files, is excellent.

I do use it and I'll check that out this week.

I just received Silk Blend from Liberty Flights and it is quite good ..

I'll look into that as well.

Here is what I use for a base that I use in a lot of my tobacco mixes. I also like to vape this just by itself.

The Perfumer's Apprentice flavors:

DK Tobacco Base - mix @ 5%
1 drop sweetener per 2ML base

You should let this steep a for 2-3 days for the best results.

I have DK Tobacco enroute so that'll be the first one I try.

Thanks!

I found this response from Dan to a very similar post from a few days ago so I thought I'd add it here:

I have posted this I do not know how many times, but this is the same recipe I have been using since 2010:

TA (Tobacco Absolute), and EM (Ethyl Maltol) is a great base. It allows to to add pretty much any other flavor to it. This is my tobbaco base concoction. Unfortunatly the seedmans darkens it up alittle, but it is fairly clear at 10%.

You will need the following:

Perfumers Apprentice - Cotton Candy 2 x 1oz

TOB506 Commercial Cigarette Concentrate 4 x 1/2oz

Perfumers Apprentice - Tobacco Absolute (1. Pure) 1 x 2.5ml

Now, the cotton candy from perfumer apprentice is ethyl maltol suspended in PG @ 10%, warm the cotton candy and the 2.5ml of TA (tobacco absolute) in a sink of HOT water.

Get a 4oz bottle to add everything into, uncap the cotton candy and pour it all into the 4oz bottle, then uncap the TA, it will not be thick now as the hot bath has made it thinner. Use a pipette (note the TA will stain the pipette so use this pipette only for TA) and put .3ml of TA into the cotton candy (About 6 drops). Now cap the cotton candy and shake until it is mixed. Now add the seedmans concentrate to the cotton candy and shake until mixed.

The result is a approx 120ml of tobacco base that is very satisfying IMO @ 10%, and you can add hazelnut or peanut flavor to your mix to give it a nutty flavor. Add vanilla, black cherry, or caramel to give it those notes.
When adding menthol us it at 3% to the 7% tobacco base.
Well hope this helps.
Dan

Okay, I tried Dan's recipe and it is too sweet for me. Just ordered some Black Fire and gonna mix with some Desert Ship to see how that works.

Desert Ship 5%
Black Fire 2%
Vape Wizard 1%

So this is good or your going to try it? If you havent tried it why are you posting it?
what makes you want to put the mts vape wizard with this?

Vpur, he clearly states he is going to try it and he's posting it because we are trying to come up with a solid tobacco base and he's likely looking for some feedback. Your post seems a tad hostile so I have to ask: do you have some issue with this thread?

On to the topic at hand:

I tried Dan's as well. Yes, it is sweet but I don't mind that. I found it to be too mild overall, even at 20%. I'm going to tinker with it and maybe reformulate it this weekend. I'm curious to know about Black Fire so post up what you think of that - is that the one that's supposed to be smokey like wood smoke?. I tried the Kentucky Blend Clone that came with the ejuice me up calculator as well:

TPA Hazelnut 3%
TPA Marshmallow 5%
TPA Caramel 3%
TPA Dk Tobacco 3%

I liked this one better - more tobacco taste but not quite enough oomph. I'll reserve judgement until it steeps for a few days.

If Dan's recipe needs a little more tobacco for you, you could add some more tobacco absolute. I haven't tried to make it any stronger because I like it as a base. But by itself I think it could use a drop more of tobacco absolute but I don't have anymore to try it out. Let use know what you come up with.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I'll give it a shot over the next few days.

I put some more TA in (a lot more) but I just can't seem to get rid of the sweetness from the cotton cany. I may try some bitter wizard or I may just dump the whole thing and move on.
