Still a noob so any advice would be great. I usually vape 6mg but the shop I went to only had 18mg of a juice I really like. It's a 50/50 pg/vg blend and I'm vaping it on in a cartotank (2.2 ohm @ 4.1v). The throat hits are KILLING me. Each hit I have to drink a cup of water to settle down my throat! Any advice on toning down the th?

Also, I really like higher vg levels but heard there are wicking problems b/c it's too thick. What's a good solution to this? Are cartos better to use for higher vg?

Thanks

I had a similar issue and using non- or low-PG juice solves it for me. It seems like the PG sort of expands once it hits my throat/lungs and makes me want to cough. Another option is to not inhale the vapor into your lungs at all. Just pull the vapor into your mouth, hold it there for a few seconds and exhale slowly through your nose. In addition to avoiding the cough-inducing throat/lung issue, this technique delivers maximum nicotine, since the nicotine in the vapor is more readily absorbed in your mouth and nose than by your lungs.

Awesome post about inhalation technique(s): http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/337017-inhalation-technique-e-cigarette.html

To your question: yes, I have better luck with thick(er) VG juices using a cartotank with two- or three-holed cartos. While I haven't advanced to the use of RBAs yet, I believe they are even better at handling thick/VG juices.

At first glance sounds almost like extreme dry hits to me. 50/50 shouldn't cause it for most people. Never tried cartos, so can't advise on that.

Add clean water, ie. not directly from the tap. The advices have ranged from 1 drop per 1ml to 1 in 10mls.

I'd suggest a 100% VG to calm down throat hit - I had PG sensitivity and it gave me a raw throat, and I'd dry hack n cough n splutter every inhale. 100% VG can be thick, but for most vendors it really isn't as big a deal as it may seem. I use 100% VG from Heathers heavenly Vapes in a Kanger T2 on an eGo Twist and never had a problem. After a week or so, I'll rinse the "heads" let them dry and back on they go. :) As the previous poster mentioned don't vape like you might steal a quick smoke behind the bike shed, lol. Take it more leisurely - like your grandad used to philosophically puff on his pipe. You can choose to inhale or not inhale, but exhaling some nicotine through your nose can help the absorption thereof. For the 18 mg juice you do have, maybe go to a drugstore and buy some glycerin (VG) generally in the first aid or moisturizer section and cut the juice that you do have with that. There'll be flavor reduction but at least it will hold you till you get your 6 mg in again

Nicotine and PG both contribute to Throat hit. So does vaping style. One lady at work that I have just converted still occasionally does a "lung draw" and hacks like crazy when she does.
You can try drawing into your mouth like you are taking a SLOOOOOW sip of water from a straw. THEN suck that into your lungs. You get more flavor and the harshness is cut way down.

Here is something you can do…

You could buy some 0mg e-Liquid in the same Flavor and mix it with the 18mg to make 9mg. Or 6mg if you throw a little math at it.

BTW – Adding a few drops of Water to a Thick VG e-Liquids thins it very well. And many will tell you that their e-Liquids Actually taste Better with the Added Water.

go to walmart's pharmacy and buy a bottle of vegtable glycerin. Cut the 18mg you have with it. There are tons of apps for android or iphone that tell you the breakdowns of how to get to 6mg. But in a very general sense if you have a 15ml bottle of 18mg and you add about 10-12ml of vg/pg you should end up around 6mg best of luck to you!

Yeah... You can Reduce the Nicotine this way. But you will also Reduce the Flavor.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to try the adding a little vg to what I have in my carto and save the rest of the bottle for more 0mg to come into the shop to cut down the rest of the 18mg.

It's strange cause I used to be a 1PAD smoker before but I just can't handle 18mg or even 12...

Another random question... When I used to smoke, I would wake up in the morning and feel like I have a hole in my lungs. I'd have a hard time taking deep breaths, esp when I smoked a LOT the day before... I figured when I switched to vaping this would stop but it's not. It's certainly not as bad but I still wake up with weak lungs. Is this normal? I just quit analogs completely a week ago so I'm not sure if my lungs are recuperating or if I'm just vaping too much. What was it like when you guys first quit?

Noob vapers detox from the effects of t-cigs often erroneously attribute such reactions to the new venue.

If you are vaping and still smoking at the same time expect anomalies of all sorts. Give it at least 2 - 3 months off tobacco before worrying about what is normal.

When you get the glycerin, try and vape a little of that on its own. It could be the PG Is what's getting to you. Some folk have a high sensitivity to it. eg - I personally had a raw throat, and a dry hacking cough every time I took an inhale, plus what felt like a heavy feeling in the lungs. So now I use 100%VG. Others have an intolerance to VG so it could be that way round also. And don't forget to DRINK WATER! LOTS N LOTS OF WATER!! :)

I've only been vaping for a few weeks too and at the beginning I still have some smoker symptoms such as dry mouth/throat in the morning and wheezing but nowadays I'm doing better, I gotta admit I don't exercise either so... some of my symptoms could've been related to that. Maybe is the same for you, unless you did exercise despite your smoking.

It's been 8 days or so since my last analog. I've been only vaping, nothing else.

Give it a little More Time before thinking too much about it.

I think it takes awhile for your body to Adjust to all those Chemicals that you are no longer taking in from Cigarettes.

And remeber to drink a Lot of Water.
