this morning i changed my tank from kayfun to one of the protanks that have been sitting in the drawer for some time with some bobas bounty on it.

i heard a bunch of crackling noises and then felt like some juice hit directly back of my throat.
immediately i felt like some thing burning and discomforting. it hurts a bit, like i swallowed a fish bone or something.

now my question is, is it just the juice that hit back of my throat or could it have also been something inside the atomizer?

i drank a lot of water and even food to get it down but still the same. this is actually the second time it happened, last time it took about a month to fully heal.

Most likely eliquid droplets.

But it could have been a bug.

Last summer I noticed the gnats lurking inside the mouthpieces of atomizers, drawn in by the sweet smells. In warmer weather, those condoms come in handy :)

yeah, that's kind of scary ... but strange as it may be, i'd prefer the bugs, over anything else, like plastic.
bugs would bio-degrade naturally once inside you, but the man-made ones i fear it may not.

but for me i'm pretty sure it was some hot nicotine that just blasted although i do find it strange my throat swelling up over a burnt hit, anyone had this happen to them before?

and, where do you buy these so called "condoms"?

Throat swelling sounds a lot like an allergic reaction. Even if you've never been allergic before, your body could have developed the sensitivity because of exposure - PG, VG, flavoring, or nicotine, take your pick - then suddenly, with an unusual event like hot nic juice coming into direct contact with your throat, shows that allergic reaction.

I've had a similar experience with the atomizer spitting at me, not quite so violently but definitely got hot ejuice on the back on my tongue, and it burns, not so much from the heat as the fact that it's nicotine... I jumped up and gargled several times with cool water to get rid of it, had no further ill effect, but it sure tastes nasty.

The little condoms I use are the ones that came with my T2 clearomizers, and I know cartomizers come with them. The coil replacements also come with them. Basically packaging, but they do have their uses :)

I think everyone at some point or another gets a flaming-hot ball of juice shot off their atty like a rocket directly into the mouth. Burns like hell. I've only ever got hit on the tongue, years of being a pipe smoker trained me to place my tongue directly in front of the mouthpiece.

One of the odder things I've learned since vaping is all the different ways people inhale (or don't).

well i found out why ... previously on my kfun i had the voltage set to 4.8.
when i switched to protank, it stayed at 4.8v, and i must've took one nasty burnt hit !!!

Argh, BURNT HITS seriously sucks!!! my throat is swelling up, this is not good ! :(

Burnt hits are not good. A little while back we had a poster think he burnt his throat because of one. To my knowledge no one has ever had a verified problem with a burnt throat or a swelling throat, but that doesn't mean it can't happen to you. Everyone is different.

Hope you are doing OK! If you have serious issues with burnt hits do everything you can to avoid them. IMO it is possible to avoid 99.9% of them. Low power, good and dependable attys, test drags, all help in a big way with this. Let us know how you make out with it :thumb:

It was definitely just hot juice. This has happened to me many times. When you let a tank sit around for a while the wick becomes over saturated and the coil gets flooded with juice. For example, if you take any rebuildable dripping atomizer and flood the wick and hold down the fire button you will see juice popping off everywhere and the same thing happens in the tank. The juice will pop until it is burnt off and not saturated anymore and it will shoot right up through the drip tip.

I recommend that anytime you use an old tank that has been sitting for over a week you should hold down the fire button for about 5 seconds about 3-5 times before putting the device to your mouth and taking a hit. It will burn off any excess juice.

Have you taken apart the ProTank to check for any tiny bits of coil or wick material that may have broken loose?

I'm not sure if this is even a reasonable possibility, but it may be worth checking if his throat doesn't heal up relatively soon (as in a day or two).
