Late to the party, but......
I did some experimenting with top coil clearos at higher voltages a while back. I wasn't too happy with any of them - got lots of dry hits from most, but a couple were great. It took me a while to figure out that the variable was the wicking in the heads, and not the clearo itself. The couple of heads I had with the one fat wick worked great, especially if I fluffed it out a bit. On the other hand, the heads with multiple skinny wicks gave me dry hits above about 3.9 volts whatever I did to them.
Also, there was a thread or two about laying a roll of cotton across the coil under the plastic top to minimise dry hits at higher voltages - kinda like the flavor wicks on the Kanger BCs. I meant to try it but never got around to it. May be worth a shot.
