Looks are nice but I'm actually looking more for performance
i believe poldiacs are still the best performers available. jim designed them specifically for this purpose - very tight tolerances, silver plating on all contacts, etc.
Does any one know how a Nemesis or Chi would compare

Tube Style Nemesis has gotten very good feedback. Waiting on my Reo Grand coming w/ RM2 but I'm sure it's gonna blow me away based on feedback on that device for a daily driver.
I second the Nemesis. Super T Manufacturing has some good looking mods too.

So you're telling me to buy a Poldiac AND a Nemesis. Okay...what are the going rates for these?
About $200+ considering you get the different tube sizes as well.
If its a tube with one single tube size its a bit less.
Today we have pretty much reached a plateau (a good one)... a level of quality amongst the high enders.
Here are the factors:
Contact materials
Adjustable top positive connector pin (to the atomizer).
Batt contact - adjustability for different length batts within same size group (not all 18650's are equal in length).
Firing design ("button" or "switch"); check out the various ones. its important.
Today there's like one or two mech tubes made of Titanium which jumps the price.
Unless you can afford to try a few, or all, research these factors well before you pull the trigger.
You can figure an somewhat "available" high end mech(vs Carvela/ Chi You) will be competitively priced.

nice...thanks for the in depth response, ukeman. i was just kind of joking but i think i dropped about $250ish over the weekend and didn't even realize it! lol. i've definitely got a new obsession. i got bite by the bug...HARD
its about overall design factor differences; most high end mechs are competitively close in how well they perform.
Various desirable contact materials and how the mech is designed for max conductivity to ensure less voltage drop under load.
One factor there, but a good one.
Its like comparing cars in a certain price range - there are "features"... similar and different in each model.

i never tried a Caravela or ChiYou...i do know this 5 perform close if not just as well, and there a PLENTY of other mechs out there that perform as well too.
I think we've reached a plateau for mechs and China is creeping close to matching these if not already done so in at least a few models.

try $525 for BBM Ti and Changeling (makes a hybrid)... twice as good?

Well if you have a Zen 2, you know all about nonperformance (but there is a fix)
There's any number of great mechanicals, but I have only found one that performed the way "I" wanted strait out of the box, and that's the Reo. So don't be surprised if you have to do a little tweaking to get any mechanical you buy to perform the way "'YOU" want.
But, that's the great thing about most mechanicals ... you can.

real deal is $165.... but shipping is a bear... Triangle Vape had them in USA for $165 (Calif.).... i wouldn't do it for $270. Get the clone from FT.. its almost the same thing, to hold you til they come available.
