Hey all,

I have a friend who is getting a protected mod (iTaste SVD) and who is trying to cut costs and has already purchased the TORCHY batteries and an eFest LUC charger. The TORCHY batterries are an unknown to me, and I'd much rather he get the AW IMR ones like mine.

So are his TORCHY batteries a good idea? My guess is not

Cheers

I had never heard of the brand "Torchy" before, and it took a bit to find some Useful 18650 2200mAh 3 7V Powerful Camera Torch LIR Rechargeable Li ion Battery | eBay. Not sure if these are the same, different mAh rating.

I share your concerns. I have no idea what chemistry battery this is as there is no description by the seller other than for a camera. $2.50 for a battery is a good tip off its probably a re-wrapped reject and of extremely poor quality. So are these a good idea? My guess is not, too.

The SVD will work best with a high quality IMR or hybrid high drain battery. Batteries are the heart of mod, and to skimp here is an extremely poor idea. If your friend is not concerned for his own safety, that's his decision. But if there are others that live with him let him know that he is also risking their safety, too.

I shy away from any batteries and chargers with the word "fire" in the name.

I shudder to think of batteries with the word "torch" in their name.

Although, I understand that those ladies and gentlemen across the pond refer to a flashlight as a torch.
