So, where to start? Background?

I started smoking at the age of 15 (nearing 28 now). From day 1 it was Marlboro Lights, and that's never changed save for trying a different brand here and there. My habit has been, at worst, a pack a day, and on average a half pack a day or so. I've wanted to quit for years, but absolutely nothing has ever worked for me.

Then, recently, my mother, who is also a smoker, ordered a blu. After getting it, she wanted me to give it a try as well, giving me her spare battery, atomizer, and a few cartridges. Interestingly enough, my first day with it ended having only smoked two regular cigs. The next day, only one. Suffice to say - I like it. In fact, I feel like I could almost switch from smoking to vaping.

Trouble is, there's some things I just don't like about the blu. Initially, I threw a "Java Jolt" cartridge on it and really enjoyed it. However, I obviously wanted to try some different flavors, which has lead to some interesting (and not altogether great) tastes coming off the thing. Also, the amount of vapor simply doesn't seem like enough, especially after having watched some review videos now that ecigs have my attention. My biggest problem, though, is that the thing has an almost metallic taste to it at times, and at others an almost burning flavor - neither of which are very good, obviously. Lastly, and it could be an issue with how much nicotine is in them (I have no idea how much the cartridges contain - the packaging just says "high"), but when really trying to get the vapor going on these, I can get seriously choked up off an amount of "smoke" that would normally make me laugh coming from a normal cigarette.

So, considering all of the above, while the blu hasn't been perfect, I can definitely see myself switching to vaping if I could find a more agreeable experience with another PV. What I'm really looking for is something that would alleviate the issues I've listed above, if that's possible. Also, as I read through these forums I see this and that about "dripping", "throat hits", atomizers, cartomizers(sp?) etc. and it's a bit intimidating to assume how complex some of this may be. So yeah, some suggestions on what might work for me would be great, along with some links to further information on how all of this works.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give. :D

this I would think is the result of letting the cart get too dry.....add some more juice as soon as you sense this coming on.......

Eh, it only came with cartridges and no juice. The fact is, it even occurs at times with a fairly new (vaped on a time or two) cartridge.

Either way, as I tried pointing out - my coming about eCigs at all was through trying one that isn't mine. I'm looking for my own personal solution, as the blu is temporary either way, and still has other issues. Also, like I said - I'm clueless all the way around about juices etc., so any informative sites/threads you can steer me towards would be great. Tutorials or anything of that nature.

If you look around the forum, you find some - not so good - reviews of the Blu. Of course there are other people who love them.

Choking - sometimes it's just because your smoking the humectant that atomizers are shipped with to prevent them from drying out. To prevent choking, it's a good idea to let the vapor roll along your tongue before it hits the back of your throat.

Throat hit - refers to the feeling you get when vapor hits the back of your throat. For many, the closer in feel to a real cigarette, the better.

The guide to using the e-cig, I believe, are sticky (listed at the top of this forum subject.)

It won't recommend a specific model, but it will give you a great overview.

  • For the size, you can get a 401
  • For an unbeatable price at almost the size, you can get a disposable 510
You should look around the forum, it's an invaluable resource and has the definitions of all those pesky terms and some very detailed pictures.

Using an e-cig is not complex and the people are mega helpful. Once you decide on what model of PV you're going to buy, there are excellent guides that will make sense to you.

For example:

Dipping - The atomizer or heating element or coil of a 401 is exposed, therefore one can "dip" the the atomizer in e-juice instead of refilling the cart.

Dripping - The atomizer or heating element or coil of a 510 is enclosed, therefore one can "drip" e-juice into the atomizer instead of refilling the cart.

After reading through the forum, you get used to the terms.

Vendors - LiteCigUSA.net and MadVapes.com both have disposable 510's. For these specific disposables only - it says three recharges, and I've gotten at least 50 recharges. At the very least, you have extra atomizers.

I'm a relative newbie myself, after a little trial and error I've found Greensmoke™ to be very user friendly and it produces a very good amount of vapor. If you order try, to request the 2nd generation batteries,as I've found them to replicate real smoking the best with longer easier pulls which seems to make the cartridge and batteries last longer. You should only get a burning taste if the cartridge is out. What's also great,is that they're pre-filled. They are a little more than some of the others-but you get what you pay for...hope this helps!

I think a lot of people start out with the 510 as a jumping off point. You can always go with the tornado/eGo if you want too (more battery life). Plus, don't forget to get lots of samples of juice in different strengths (mg of nicotine) and flavors. I never thought I'd want the flavors, but I do. Welcome, and good luck!

still probable.....I add drops to a prefilled cart even before I use it, and I usually top it off with six or so drops every other time I use it

green smokes ( not green cig) are probably the best plug and play type of ecig out there.
I have 2 of their starter kits and I do like them very much, However , the cartos for them are much more expensive then other brands. They are very good though so if cost is not a factor then go for it.

I now have a value 4 life kit that I like very much and is much less expensive for the cartos.

Both are suitable for a beginning vapor for a muss , fuss, free solution.

Both can be refilled with juice versus buying new cartos all the time. There is a little learning curve in learning how to do this, but it is really easy.

If you want a plug and play solution go with one of these. My opinion only of course,
but I do own and like both.
