I know this varies a ton based on a lot of factors, but I'm trying to get a general idea. Most of my mixes are around 10-13% total flavor. I use mainly TFA and vape on a kayfun at around 15-16 watts. I've heard 20-25% as a general guideline, but I'm looking for some real life numbers correlated with some other information.

so, here are my questions:

1. What is a typical range of total flavor percentage you use in DIY?
2. What brand(s) of flavors do you use the most?
3. What pg/VG ratio
4. What device and power level do you vape?
5. Do you add sweetener? If so, what brand/type?

thanks so much! I'm trying to put together some info to be available at a vape meet.

2. What brand(s) of flavors do you use the most?Mostly Inawera, some FlavourArt, a few Hangsen and TFA.
3. What pg/VG ratioIt varies but generally 45/45/10 distilled water.
4. What device and power level do you vape?REO mechanical, 1Ω-1.2Ω coil.
5. Do you add sweetener? If so, what brand/type?I've stopped using 'sweetener' but will add a bit of brown sugar extra, marshmallow, or other sweet flavorings, if a mix needs it.

thanks so much! I'm trying to put together some info to be available at a vape meet.

Have fun at the meet!

I've been mixing a year or so...
Answers are for me
1. 20-25% flavor
2. TFA & MBV more TFA flavors price seems best...
3. Usually 50/50 with my 100 nicotine 50/50 mixture I can go up to 80VG/20PG if I lower my flavor percentage.
4. ProVari/Kayfun/Nautilus running
1.2-2.0 coil/3.8-4.0V CanaDNA30/Tugboat .6-.9 dual coil running 24.5W-30W
5. TFA Sweetener now at 2%. Only included in flavor percentage when I'm mixing 80VG/20PG.
I have used Splenda Skinny Girl Clear for me not a prob, also used Liquid Stevia not a prob. Some ppl report an aftertaste with Stevia & Splenda

Thanks again for the answers! Keep them coming.

16 did seem high for me on the Kayfun, but I just got a dna 30 yesterday (prior to that was vaping on provari). I had been thinking 16 would be too high, but it's working fine. Japanese cotton, so maybe it's wicking better than other types? I don't know, working well though. Not getting hot to the touch.

What type of sweetener is the TFA? Is it sucralose. I suppose I could go look it up...

TFA ... The Flavor Apprentice

Flavor is 'Cotton Candy' .... It's actually Ethyl Maltol (EM)

Smooths out the taste of the juice, and sweetens it a little

Sorry for the confusion, I'm talking about the people who are using TFA sweetener, not ethyl maltol. I just went and looked, and it is sucralose.

SWEETENER

Water soluble.

Use this one to sweeten other flavors.

* Note - when this flavor gets really cold, sometimes little crystals can form. this is harmless, and they will go away if you warm the flavor gently.. - also, can show variation in color from clear to light tan.

1. What is a typical range of total flavor percentage you use in DIY?
Anywhere from 10% to 20%. 10% is usually a single flavor, 20% is a mix.

2. What brand(s) of flavors do you use the most?
TFA, FW, and rarely anymore CAP

3. What pg/VG ratio
I prefer my mixes VG heavy (intolerance to PG) So I mix at 30pg/70vg I have 100mg pg nic I dilute to desired levels as well.

4. What device and power level do you vape?
Use mainly mech mods, but I also have a DNA30 I toy around with. Go to tank is a Aerotank Mega with a 1ohm coil, many drippers ranging from .19 to ~1ohm.

5. Do you add sweetener? If so, what brand/type?
Haven't used any yet.

1. What is a typical range of total flavor percentage you use in DIY? I personally start out with half the percentage recommended and work my way to what I like.
2. What brand(s) of flavors do you use the most? Vaping Zone Gourmet and Super Concentrated
3. What pg/VG ratio 50/50
4. What device and power level do you vape? Reo Grand and Reo Mini
5. Do you add sweetener? If so, what brand/type? I use to but I found that my coils would "gunk" up quicker so I quit.

Good luck to you.

thanks so much! I'm trying to put together some info to be available at a vape meet.

It really depends on the flavor, some are weak @ 20% and some are overpowering @ 5%. There are several stickies and flavor threads with lots of info on various mfgs and brands, they will fill you full of info.

I personally use almost every brand, but my favorite is capella vanilla custard!

I tend to go with 70+ % vg.

I have all reg devices, vape from 8-35w depending on the topper, I mostly use nautilus minis bvc @ 10-18w depending on the juice. I have a kayfun and a couple drippers as well. IPV2 for the higher watt stuff, I have a vamo and an mvp2 as well.

I use sweetener in some recipes that need a little something, but not too frequently.

Thanks, I'm familiar with that thread. I've been doing DIY for about 2.5 years now and I've got my preferences and testing methods pretty well figured out. I'm just putting something together for some people at a meet who are interested in doing DIY. I'm really just wanting a quick and dirty 'range'. More like, I'm going to tell them something like this, "There is no right answer to the question, "How much flavor do I add?" as different flavors and brands are can vary a lot in strength and everyone's personal preferences are different. DIYers will generally add from 5% to 25% total flavoring based on each particular flavor and their preferences. The only way to determine what will work for you is to experiment and see. You can find lists of recommended percentages [provide links], but these are just starting points for your own testing."

I also wanted to try to get an idea of whether people who vape sub ohm and/or high power tend to have higher or lower preferences for flavor than people who vape standard 2nd gen type set ups. That issue is still not clear to me. For me, as I've gone from 2nd gen to rebuildables, my flavor percentages have decreased. But I don't know if that's a general rule, or just me.
