five pawns was among the very first vendors I tried when I quit analogs and took up vaping. At the time, and with few points of comparison, I was pretty impressed by their boutique packaging, their florid product descriptions, and selection of what, although not ADVs, seemed to be stand-out liquids. After that initial experience, I continued to order from competitors, found some truly special recipes and had forgotten about Five Pawns, but continued to cite them among my favorites. Anyhow, I thought I'd order a 30ml bottle of Gambit - my favorite of the bunch - and emailed them to ask if I could also buy a sample of their new Castle Long liquid as well. $27.50 for the 30ml isn't exactly a competitive price, but I was willing to pay it as well as another $8 or so for the sample.

They responded to tell me that if I purchased two 30ml bottles at $27.50 a piece, they'd consider selling me a small sample of Long Castle. Silly me, I sort of considered it. But first I knew I needed to vape what remained of my initial sample set to confirm that they were as nice as my memory suggested. So I vaped what was left...and then I laughed. Since that initial order I had tried over 100 liquids from other vendors. When I returned to Five Pawns I realized that despite their descriptions, the liquid was neither as one-of-a-kind nor as tasty as I figured at first. In fact, I could find a direct comparison to every one of the lot from competing vendors that were not only cheaper but also superior. And that's when I woke up. Seriously, make me buy two overpriced big bottles in order to earn the privilege to buy a small sample? These guys are clowns. No offense to those who still love them, but I've sworn them off forever and am damned well certain to spread the word to friends who don't visit forums but who I've helped take up vaping and put down the analogs. In contrast with this hot mess, Chopper from SandS Mods saw that I posted about wanting to try more of his flavors and flat out offered me a free sample on this forum. How can you fuss with that ......... LA crew with good folks like Wlad at Ahlusions and Chopper at SandS as alternatives?

Have to realize there are those that will support them simply because the price is so high. Seems that is one mark of Status some must indulge in.
Me, I make one of the most kick .... Strawberry Ice Cream Vapes I could have ever hoped for. Must cost me all of $1.75 per 10ml.:2cool:
Yeah. Pretentious packaging, puffed-up product descriptions, and slick-looking websites are meaningless next to good people with phenomenal product. I'm happy to have learned that lesson.

Five Pawns is a puzzlement.

If you still have the e-mail from them that says they'd consider selling you a small sample of Castle, I'd print and frame it as a reminder to yourself and as a warning to everyone in general.

I have it still. Here's an excerpt: "If you would like I can send you an invoice through Paypal for a bottle of Castle Long with a purchase of two bottles or more of our signature line. Let me know how you would like to proceed."

And you probably won't share the recipe. :(

Maybe 'cuz I'm just from working class po' folk, but I just don't understand the status symbol thing. I buy nice stuff where it's important, but I'm perfectly happy with utilitarian goods for everyday. Except for beer. I don't do cheap beer. But I also don't drink beer everyday.

I tried them to see what all the rave was about..

Didn't like the juice one bit and won't order again..

That is pretty messed up though that they wanted you to order 2 bottles of juice to have the privileged of buying the sampler.

I could see them saying you had to order one bottle but to ask for 2 is just asinine..

I said it when I first learned of 5P and I'll say it again: this is just a foo-foo boutique juice shop up-charging their juices to pay for that pretentious storefront. I would never order anything from a bunch of self-important jags that will "consider" selling (not giving) me a sample size juice IF I buy two of their already overpriced bottles of precious elixirs.

Oh, and their oh-so awesome packaging? AiV kicks their .... in all categories at a far more attractive price.

None of their flavors stood out to me as OMGMUSTBUYRIGHTNAO. So I can't comment on their quality. However, I do know from my many purchases that when I get my order and I see a sample bottle I'm like OOOH YAY A PRESENT. Yes, I'm easily satisfied, but it's more so the thought from the company that counts. Customer service does go a very long way. Getting a 10 ml bottle for free of a sample I get to choose, makes me even more happier :) Honestly, I'm more inclined to reorder from a place that has sent me a sample simply because I was able to try out a flavor I may not have originally thought of purchasing. Seller wise - its a good selling point for repeat buyers ;)

I don't understand high priced juice unless it has rare and unique ingredients. It has to be justified. We all know how much pg/vg/nic costs. Pennies. The flavor is the wildcard and even then. If it's just a concoction of flavors that anybody can order from places like TFA/TPA then its robbery.

NETs are different and they are a craft/art much like micro-brewed beer or small batch bourban. Yea, I can buy those ingredients too but it would take an awful lot of practice and trial/error before I could make an outstanding batch. THAT is something I'm willing to pay for and pay dearly if I love it.

I can season and grill an angus steak better than any average steakhouses so the only expensive steakhouses I can justify spending money on are the ones that dry age them on premises. Unless places like 5 Pawns do something special that can justify the cost I, I can't justify shopping there.

Thanks for the heads up OP.

You can't vape a package or a bottle. No amount of florid descriptions of a dog turd make it any other thing than a ... dog turd. Good customer relations go a LONG way towards customer loyalty. GREED is bad. I don't vape status symbols.

OP: you should e-mail the ......s at 5P a link to this thread so they can see what true maroons they are.

Last week I won (and others here) a free 30ml bottle of Halo juice of my choice on ECF, Halo shipped it to me in a week and even though we didn't have to pay anything for shipping they sent everybody a free 10ml sample of there newest juice. Now that's a cool company.
I will defiantly buy a bottle of juice from Halo just because of that.

If you don't mind paying a premium for quality, check out Johnson Creek.

Every bottle is glass and sealed in shrink wrap plastic. Every bottle also comes with a dripper cap and a 5ml empty plastic bottle.

I haven't gotten a flavor yet from JC that wasn't good, and some of them have been absolutely extraordinary.

Those boutique joints can shove it. Give me a tasty liquid, let me order it any dang time I want, and show me how you really care about quality and you have a customer for life.

I like only some of JC's juices, but they ARE top notch as far as customer service and packaging. Still a bit pricey, but for all of the VG lovers, it is a good thing. When I was a more inexperienced vaper, I accidentally ordered cartridges instead of cartomizers. They refunded my money and said to not bother sending the 15 cartridges back.

Class. Still sells.

Absolutely. Plus, the psychology of reciprocity is a powerful thing. Reciprocity (social psychology) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I know I always feel inclined to show thanks when someone treats me right, and this works for vendors as well.
