I have no equipment to measure such low resistances. The Rds of the mosfet is 40microOhms @ 3.5V Vgs (taken from datasheet).

I am comparing it to a good quality 5A platinum plated limiter switch and with every atty, same battery and same juice, the vapor amount is visibly and notably higher with the mosfet then the switch.

Tested other cheap switches too and they are fairing even worse.

Regarding the temp profile, there is no method to sense the current that I know of that doesn't add more load to the circuit. For me it's a no-go even with a 900mA battery.
I personally think it's better to tune it by watching the atty perform then by draining the battery more. That is a talk for the future and still open to debate.
Right now I don't have the time to physically work in that direction.

This mod is particularly good working so I'm finally feeling confident with it and use it all day long. The 901 is draining the batt at 1.1C (970mA as real battery capacity tested out at 880mA) so I also expect a very long and prosperous battery life considering it is charged at 0,5C using a dedicated chip.

Actually, at first it seems that all one needs to do is monitor the battery voltage as this is the potential divided between two resistances - the atty and the internal resistance. From room temp to faint red hot - nicr res increases about 2%. Problem is the internal resisatnce probably increases too, especially as it's charge diminishes, and age. One could add a very small series resistance for guaging the current but with values <0.1 ohms a lot of factors would begin to make accuracy and stability a problem.

There are, however, some alternative approaches.

Well good luck! If it's Janty, I think they are completely unreliable. I could have helped them with this months ago but they didn't bother sending the materials or even replying to my mails, claiming some were lost.

And I wonder how such a company can have so little in-house talent to do some basic electronics. It's easy to make something that will work. There's always room though for something a bit special ;)

ps: any company interested in stealing a march on the competition with a system that greatly reduces burning and extends battery life, send a message. Burning deposits will become a hot topic sometime soon.

Sorry folks, I thought I could post the list but in the meantime (after the rechargeable version) was contacted by some people.
Will report back with the list if nothing comes out of this.
Sorry again for not being able to post the whole info.

So I assume somebody bought the design from Caesar, and is getting ready to mass produce it?

Good to see someones hard work and creativity getting rewarded!

I just hope whom ever bought it doesn't think they can get $100 for something most of the people on this board can build themselves for under $30.;)

If most people on this board can build it why is nobody but Caesar and myself building it? Most people want you to do the work for them.

I have been using a touch switch for a couple weeks now and find that I love it.

Moderators: I do not sell this model so this is not self-promotion

Actually no, nobody bought it after all. After some long talks nothing came out.
I hoped to at least be able to provide the PCB for people to make their own and registered as a supplier, made a few orders for PCBs and soldered them but the cost was too high and the whole operation too time consuming.

It's fun to make one for yourself and very rewarding but mass producing this PCB requires a chinese factory to be cost effective.

PS: and yes, a mosfet will kick most buttons "bottom". It compares only with high cost quality switches that have platinum plated contacts.

Your right, it was a lot more fun when I only made a few here and there. I doubt I will be making them for sale much longer. It just takes too much time.

Funny you should say that... I am learning as fast as I can to build it myself. Caesar and yourself, are my favorite teachers!

Too bad. You do good work.

I am just learning the whole PCB layout thing. Do you have a final version of your layout I can look at? I like your final design, and it would be interesting to see the direction you took.

Its amazing you can design, and etch your own boards, I even found methods to do reflow at home with a toaster oven!

I agree with you that mosfets and protected batteries are the only way to go for a safe reliable mod.
