Sometimes I post things without fulling thinking it through, and I apologize for that.

Hehe, I resemble that remark. Sometimes I think I must like the taste of crow to eat it so often.

Just make sure that you have ALL of the Neg's going through the mosfet. In metal tube mods it's easier to use a P-Ch because your breaking only ONE positive to the converter module. However, it's NOT impossible to use an N-Ch in a metal tube. Just reverse the battery and have the positive end down facing the spring cap making the outer case positive and then you will break the single neg going to the converter.

Did I state that correct? or did I put my foot in my mouth... AGAIN?

Makes perfect sense to me. P-channels are generally perferable because you only have to break one positive instead of several negatives. However, N-channels are cheaper and more common so they are easier to obtain and there's a wider selection. Solve the problem by making positive common instead of negative, unorthodox, but does the job. Remember the old British cars with positive ground?

And not too small to work with. I think it's the perfect size.

Exactly.....I did a couple IRF8736PbF fets a while back and it was like soldering a pizz ant(with an extra set of legs) to a board with a hot fireplace poker.

I can see how anyone can get mixed up on these parts with the vast number of different parts available... I start to get convulsions when I 'm trying to find a part on Digikeys menus....too many options!!

Here is the revised schematic for the 3114. Note Nico that it is a N-Channel:

I breadboarded this exact diagram and for some reason its not working . I tried it with a 10meg all the way up to 100meg and as soon as i power it on from the Power supply(same as putting a battery in) it just stays on . The only thing different in from the diagram is im using a irl3103 . Am i just completely missing something ? Heres a pic .It should be easy to trace . All ground run to the ground plane . Touch switch is the atty connector (Checked and its not shorting across it ) . The circuit other than it staying on works . Why wont it turn off :(

Its kinda hard to tell from the pic...but do you have ALL of the negative lines coming back thru the 3103 drain? It looks like you have the fets source (white wire) and the 04050's neg connection powered by the Vin instead of the 04050 having to go thru the fet also...ie..your powering the two separately. Not sure though.

Only run your Vin to the source on the 3103 then the drain to make a common bus for rest of the neg connections.

i tried a different things . i make a diagram when i come back home later . i did get it to work fine with a tact switch . Looking at my pic now that i got some sleep it looks like it is wrong . However i think i did try it the right way first . Ill let you know later on .

The right way first!!!... *gasp* ....we'll have none of that nonsense around here!!:laugh::laugh:

Seriously though...if everything else is right...just take the white wire (source) and the battery neg wire off the neg bus you have there and connect the two it should work.

Ok i swear i got to stop doing mods so late at night lol . I could have sworn i did it right the first time last night and it didnt work(not the pic, that was my last effort) . I obviously must have been doing something stupid . I set it up again on the bboard and its working great . I played around with the resistor across the gate and source too . The 10meg wasnt fully shutting it off ,it was staying around .7v . I ended up using a 2meg and when its off it goes to 0v . Sensitivity is also perfect . It worked with a 1meg too but it wasnt sensitive enough . I put a main switch and PTC off the battery + as well . Output is 3.69 - 5.8v (no diode off pin 4)
