"I am an adult," Rockefeller said. "Would I be attracted to Cherry Crush, Chocolate Treat, Peachy Keen, Vanilla Dreams? No, I wouldn't."

Call it the Rockefeller Rule: If an e-cigarette flavor does not appeal to Jay Rockefeller, it could not possibly appeal to anyone older than 17. Yet Healy testified that survey data indicate "the average age of a cherry smoker is in the high 40s."

May we safely assume, then, that there are no cherry, chocolate, peach, or vanilla candies in Rockefeller's Senate-floor Candy Desk?

(BTW, I was vaping Peach Keen while watching the hearing. Had a good laugh when he said that.)

Everyone complains about the laughably (not really) bad state of our governing bodies in this country yet we continue to re-elect these people. This idiot has been in his seat for 30 YEARS! It happens year after year, term after term. I am a moderate democrat and I just can't believe how the party is acting towards this. There should be a rule that you have to have had a job other than in politics to get a job in politics.

It's a pretty unconfortable position for me to agree so completely with the "news people" at Fox over ANY topic let alone this.

Thanks, Democratic Party.

A scifi short story by Robert Heinlein was based on the political system operating in a future United States. A group of officials had the job of finding, among the general populace, the person who *least* wanted to hold a public office. That person was led kicking and screaming into the office and held it until the next cycle. It was extraordinarily successful; everything worked and the country flourished.

Perhaps we should consider something similar in the present...

Agreed. Their "base" isn't even with them. Quite the opposite. This is right up there with Dodd and hollywood when it comes to "how can a party be so stupid" (Frank Zappa quote). All I can say is go to some of the open journal forums and start writting about it - just link to the headlines that aren't getting picked up in the press. Many in congress are putting all their faith in whatever CDC and FDA says, without question.

If you look at it, the tobacco control portion of the FDA is "self-supporting" which means that tobacco companies write their paychecks. That's an evil alliance to begin with if anyone was serious about ending illness and death from smoking.

I suspect that tobacco being public enemy #1 for preventable deaths might be numbered anyway. It appears that obesity / diabetes is aiming to claim that top spot. Kinda sad really because it won't be due to reduction in smoking rates but due to the fact that twice as many are dying due to preventable illness. Soda pop regulation won't stop that either.

After Washington retired, in the election of 1796, Jefferson did not 'run' - he was drafted. In a letter to Madison, who informed him that he, Adams and Pinckney were the 'candidates', Jefferson responded: "There is nothing I hope for more than for my name to come out second or third. If it is third, I can stay home the entire year. If it is second, two-thirds of the year". :)

He came in second and became John Adam's Vice President.

I've considered myself either a Democrat or Independent for most of my adult life, but I must say I am so disappointed with many Democrats and the logic or lack thereof they employ regarding this issue that it is making me question their logic regarding other issues.

As you should.....I am also an Independent. I have never agreed with the policies or decisions of either party on a number of issues. But based on this issue, combined with the embarrassment this country has become in the last 6 years in foreign affairs, we are in need of significant change at the federal level.

When that song originally broke in Dec. 1979, the option taken was - we changed Presidents. The hostages were released by the Iranians just after Reagan's inaugural speech.

It's hard to believe that Obama's presidency might actually move the rating on Carter's presidency out of the bottom 3% and up to the bottom 5% from a comparison standpoint.

Sidenote: some sources have stated that when the failed plan to rescue the hostages in Iran was presented to Carter for review, he asked the general in charge if they could use rubber bullets so no Iranians would be harmed. I can't verify the veracity of this statement but it sounds like Carter.

The Rockefeller fortune is ties up in Big Oil and Big Pharma--BOTH of which are losing MILLIONS to the e-cig industry.

The only children Jay Rockefeller is looking to protect is his own--and their inheritance of his family's bloody, dirty money.

Oh, and Kent C, these elitist Globalist 1%ers like Rockefeller might "retire" from their office in Washington, but they NEVER retire from wanting to exercise their sociopathic control over the masses. Look at
Jay's uncle, David Rockefeller--at 99, he still attends Bilderberg meetings all over the world...
