I had a tumbled for a couple years and never did see anything coming off the surface. I used dish soap to clean it. It was not clear coated.

I really am wondering if the confusion is coming from those with brass doors. They do oxidize in time.

I do not understand what would be anodized on a tumbled if NOT color?

Here is what's sexy about the TRA. I tarded mine up this weekend slathering fingernail polish with SPARKLES in it all over my NEW TRA LP/SL.....it wasn't pretty. In fact, it was down right scary.

After I finished throwing myself in the dirt (/wink Rob) I called Rob to find out what to do about getting her back to TRA. It was simple - drown her in solvent - sand just a touch - and she back to normal!

I'll be painting her this time - pics to come.

Glad I read this cuz I was seriously considering painting the door with a metallic nail polish

He was offering TRA with clearcoat for awhile. It gave a different feel and a little protection.

I have one of these in a 2.1:..... not only does it give a different feel , but looks fab because the clearcoat lets ALL the tumbling show......

Anyway, put me down down for a Clearcoat Grand. (if that's what wer're talking about)

I don't think anyone even knows what a TRA is
And whether it even needs to be annodized or not
Besides tumbling, what else is done to the aluminum
If anyone wants to know, they need to talk to Rob

Its just a mechanical finish, no chemicals involved, more info here and here.

It's a great finish for painting or anodizing, or polishing. The aluminum Rob uses is aircraft grade, it is harder than commercial aluminum (what they make ladders or window frames from for example), yet easier to machine and more corrosion resistant. There are no "black hands" from handling a TRA Reo, not sure where that came from.

If the run doesn't go ahead, a person could take their Reo to a local anodizing place, there are a few spectacular colors available these days, and ceramic coatings are another option. It's just that Rob does an excellent quality job, at the right price, which is not a guaranteed thing at your local place.
