Hi and welcome to ECF. I smoked my last cigarette the day after I started vaping. But everyone is different. Some stopped using analogs right after starting to vape. Others went through a transition period. Still others still smoke and vape. I have a friend who started vaping at Christmas, but still smokes. However, she has cut back to 3 or 4 analogs a day from a 1 1/2 packs per day.

Because everyone is different, including different goals regarding vaping, there is no one "right" path that fits everyone. Everyone's path is their own. I figure it is important for me to be supportive to folks, whatever their path they take.

Keep the vape and namaste.

I think I continued for 2 or 3 days (a few a day) and after that I tried one every now and then to make sure I wasn't missing out on anything. I really did love cigarettes. Cigarettes suck.

The only key to it all is getting a flavor that you like. First you need one flavor, and then you will need 3.

Plan on spending about 2 months worth of cigs before you get your gear where you want it to be. And it is worth it.

In a year, you will have saved real money.

And just to be clear, I have cigarettes and lighters around me. I didn't quit smoking cigarettes. That is for quitters. I just don't want one anymore. And I have great friends that will come to my house and smoke cigarettes right there in front of me while we are drinking beer and listening to great music. They end up vaping and I don't want a cigarette.

It is easy.

I also quit the day my first e cig arrived (I had tried a couple of store-boughts and knew it was something I liked, but hadn't yet tried to replace analogs). But, I was really ready to quit. Was getting grief from my wife and friends about it, wasn't feeling good, etc... but couldn't quit because I'd turn into Mr Hyde without nicotine, and I needed the physical, hand-to-mouth activity. Vaping fixed all that.

Honestly, and amazingly, I haven't once wanted a cigarette since I started vaping.

Same for me, when my friends are at my house.
I quit the very same day i got my PV. Or well almost, i smoked up the few i had left in my pack.
It's been realy easy. Even when i was at the pub, mostly i guess because i was allowed to use my PV at the pub ;)

The only times i've feelt cravings so far is at the mornings, but that will end quickly when you vape the first thing you do when you get up :)

One evening a few weeks ago I ran out of smokes. The carton was empty. It was snowing. It was cold. I didn't want to go out. I asked Lady Kodiak to run uptown and fetch me some. She responded by telling me do something that was anatomically impossible for any man to do to himself so I let it go. On my dresser was an unopened Blu Cig starter kit somebody gave me a few weeks earlier. I tried it that night and haven't bought any analogs since.

So you see... laziness can be a good thing.

Welcome..

I overlapped for about a week.
did not try to quit smoking, just added vaping.
Then one day I noticed that I quit reaching for the smokes.
don't try to control it.. let your hands figure it out.

I still reach for the smokes. I still do. But the smokes are hard to get to (but I can). I keep a pink lighter near me and when I want an analog I pick up the pink lighter. It is easy to find. It's pink.

And then I get up and look for smokes, and then I realize that I don't smoke anymore so I sit back down and vape some.

I do this many times a day. It is hard to remember that you don't like cigarettes anymore.

How long ago did you quit and what is your age? I am 57 and I started vaping a month ago.

Sometimes I feel guilty for talking about how "easy" it's been for me to quit smokes. (1) who knows, I may relapse (though I doubt it); and (2) I know it won't be so easy for everybody. I'd certainly encourage anyone who can't just walk away from cigarettes to take small steps, if that's what's needed. Use vaping to cut down, from a pack to 15 cigs, or whatever. And then live to fight another day.

I had smoked for over 40 years, and never, ever even tried to quit. I thought about it a lot from time to time, but never tried to do without cigarettes. The only time I was not smoking was when I was sleeping.

All the TV ads about Ecigarettes got my interest, and I came here and read for hours and hours. I decided maybe this would work for me. I went to a local vape shop and got a starter ego kit and 3 bottles of juice and jumped right in. I've not even had a slight desire to smoke a cigarette since I started this. I am still amazed at how easy and painless it has been for me. I think I was really ready and wanted it to work, and it has.

As everyone has said, it's different for each person, and if at first you just cut back, that's good, too. You will get there at your own pace.

I agree with you.

But for the best possible outcome, the beginner realy should buy some real equipment at the start (not cig-alikes as i first did)
And start with the nicotine levels high. I went with 24mg (18 for some) and that's enough to keep me of my ciggs.
I've seen people started out with 6mg or 12 because they tought that estimates a real ciggy, but that's false as we all know.

And if you buy to high, you can always dilute it :)

I'm 55, started vaping/quit smoking on New Years Eve (just passed), and smoked about a pack a day (probably much more than that, really) for 35 years.

Glad to know I am not the only person in my 50's who switched from smoking to vaping. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? Cuz it's not true. We can learn, change, grow and make life changing decisions that make us healthier. Woo hoo !!!!

Keep the vape and namaste.

Sleezy, try something stronger or different in the morning. Dedicate a tank to use just for waking up. And yes, start vaping early.

It takes longer to get there, but vape early and then ease off.

Vape something different on the ride to work, and then something during the day.

I am done with smokes. I am. When they are here, I might take a puff off a cig but it tastes like crap.

Great advice on all counts.
