So I'm heading from California through Oregon and into Washington next week to visit relatives for my vacation. Any weird vaping laws I should know about? I read somewhere that Washington doesn't allow "vaping in public." But what exactly does that mean? I'm driving the whole way, so will be spending at least one night in Oregon as well. Any info from OR or WA vapers would be appreciated! :)

Much of WA deals with us as if we're smokers, so public places, unless posted, should be ok. Any place posted no smoking should be considered no vaping as well. Exception is a vape B&M, where juice bars are a part of the business, but must be 18 or up go legally go in.

Many places in Pierce Co (Tacoma) and King Co (Seattle) also ban smoking (and by dumb extension, vaping) within 25 feet of business doorways.

Vaping in your car is not an issue. I've vaped in non-smoking motel rooms - just be smart and don't vape in the doorway or in front of open windows :laugh:

So, no, nothing really weird in WA, just the usual confusion between vaping and smoking, and the lumping together of same...

Have a good trip!

+1 on that. Never had any problems....and if I'm vaping indoors away from home, it is with the permission of the establishment / management. So don't worry...you should be fine. :) Have a great vacation!

Oregon's pretty much the same, although I don't think there are any vaping laws, per se. I think it's just a courtesy thing that most people assume they can't vape where they can't smoke. It's more about how it looks than what it does. I would vape in a non-smoking hotel room, and ask if it's allowed/OK in a bar or restaurant. But, I don't get out much so I may be completely off base...:p

I should probably pay more attention to the laws, if there are any, but I vape everywhere in Portland/Oregon. On the Max, in restaurants, shopping, the movie theater. I don't chain vape in public- just a puff here and there, usually- but I don't try to be super stealthy about it, either, and I'm sure people notice considering that I haul around pretty large batteries. No one has ever asked me to stop or made a fuss about it.

See, I worry about that, because the Trimet Code, and the Oregon Smoke-Free Workplace Law both explicitly include "electronic cigarettes." Jeldwen Field prohibits them, too.

Dangit. Ignorance was bliss. I'm the last person the boyfriend invites to a soccer game, so I never make it out to Jeldwen Field, but I probably should have known about the Trimet Code. I only take public transportation, so I'm surprised no one has said anything to me. I've even vaped on flights, right in my seat, without a peep from the flight attendants. But, I work from home so that probably accounts for skirting around the Oregon Smoke-Free Workplace law.

@LuckyCat (forgot to quote)

I vape at work, but I work nights in a metal shop where nobody gives a damn. But I also only take public transportation, so I didn't want to vape on the MAX before I found out if they allow it. So I looked it up, and they don't. On flights, though... That's surprising. I always just figured I go to the lavatory, vape it up for a few minutes, then go back to my seat. Pretty much the same at Jeldwen. Wait for half-time...go to the bathroom...vape it up in a stall for a few minutes.
