Hi all.
I am new to this forum and would like some help.
I have been toying with an e-cig since fall 2011.
I now have 3 egos ( 2 twists ) an ego T mod as well as
a kanger cartomizer kit. Also several flavors and nic strengths of juices.
I can usually go about 5 days using the ecig and no analogs.
However I always seem to go buy a pack around day 5.
I have noticed how good I feel when using just the ecig, my
breathing becomes easier i dont cough etc.
I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how I can kick
those darn stinkys for good.
Thanks, any hints would be appreciated.:)

Are you are using a juice with a high enough nicotine content? If so, after a few days it's just retraining your brain. I had to keep reminding myself that "I use to smoke cigarettes, but now I smoke this". After I repeated it few times and a few vape puffs I was ok. Once I got to week 2 I found I craved my ego-T more than an analog cig. Keep trying, you'll get it!

when I started I wanted to get from 2 1/2 pad to 1 pad. (quitting wasn't in my plan). so when I wanted a cig I would vape a while. then if I still wanted the cig I had it guilt free. just doing that got me down to 15 cigs a day in a week. then I worked on that first morning cig. I made myself vape and wait for 10 min. the first day, 20 min. the second, etc. soon my first cig of the day was at 1 in the afternoon. by then I was down to about 8 cigs a day or so. I continued to delay that first cig. after about a month I was down to 2 cigs a day.
I do still smoke those 2 cigs a day (before bed) but that is only because I am old and I want to.
I suggest not stressing about quitting. maybe easing off would work better for you than just quitting . good luck :)

Hi, and welcome from a fellow newbie.
Don't know if this'll help you, but I had a case of "mind over matter" where I didn't and still don't think of it as "stopping smoking", but just changing to a healthier alternative where I still satisfy the nicotine craving (am at 24gm), and the habit but without the mess/smell/risk of fire when driving etc etc which I don't miss, and it worked for me from day 1. I also thought about all the places I couldn't smoke, but would be able to vape instead...like in a hotel room where I was on 3rd floor and had to trail down and outside for a ciggie before I'd properly woken up (wasn't funny) but appreciate not everyone sees it that way. Don't know if it's helped you much but it's something to think about....:)

I started off with a provari and a sampler pack of 24mg nic juice. Once I got it set up and started vaping, I didn't feel the need for a cigarette. If you can, buy a bigger battery (provari, lava tube, etc...), it's worth the investment if you want to quit cigarettes. I have since bought and ego t and a twist battery. I like them and use them often, but I don't think I would have been off cigarettes as quickly and completely as with the bigger battery.

I have found that I need to keep a pack of analogs around. If I don't have any, then I think of all kinds of reasons why I should go buy a pack. Once I buy the pack, then I will smoke one. One can lead to two etc.

But, if the pack is available, it's kind of like a security blanket. I currently have two packs, one I carry around with me everywhere.

I quit analogs on 10/30/2012, and those two packs are still unopened. But I have them, so I don't need them.

However I always seem to go buy a pack around day 5.

There's more addictive stuff/combinations in cigs than just nicotine. It takes about 2 weeks (maybe 3, maybe varies per person) to get over that. There are MINOR cravings for a while (once and addict, always an addict). That all sounds a bit depressing. I know. The good news:

You CAN overcome it if you know about the light at the end of the tunnel. If you know it's temporary. If you have enough nic and e-cigs to pull you through. You can try weaning yourself down for a while too so the dependency isn't so great. Nobody said you have to do an all-or-nothing approach (works for some). At some point you have to fish or cut bait. Tough your way through it.

Some have little to no withdrawal. Others have some and get over it.

Stinkies will eventually stink. You won't want them anymore. Occasional cravings, if any, will pass. The e-cig flavors are fun. So is DIY e-juice if you want something to OCD with (helps pass the time) or find something else to focus on. Keep hydrated. Try fresh fruit snacks (lots of good flavors and smells as your taste buds come back).

You'll have to push through it.

If all that fails you...you may wish to investigate snus and/or WTA juice. Do research here. I think you can do without it, but I'm not you.

Make a plan. If it doesn't work...that's OK. Make a different plan. Don't quit quitting.

Hi. I don't mean to poop on this, but you yourself admit you have been 'toying' with this for an entire year. And you can go for five days straight without smoking. If you can do that... then why are you just not smoking period? Then what happens? Do you blow through the entire pack in a day, feel like crap, and go back to vaping?

Even with e-cigs, you won't quit smoking unless you have a real desire to do so. I quit a 30 year, 1.5 PAD habit and gave myself three months to do it. But as I went through that 90 days I smoked less and less as I went along. It finally came down to having one last cigarette in that last pack. I smoked it, didn't enjoy it, and haven't touched one since. But I wanted to quit, want to stay quit, and have no desires or intention to ever smoke one again.

You need to figure out where your real issue lies.

You may just not want to quit. Some people vape and continue to smoke and that's the way they like it. They are smoking a lot less, but have/had no particular desire to actually stop smoking. Is that you?

If withdrawal fits are pushing you back toward cigarettes you may not have found your right hardware or nic level. Have you tried higher level nic in your liquids?

And are you actually vaping enough? You don't get instant gratification from vaping as you do with smoking. Vaping does not provide that instant, hit you over the head, nicotine rush you get from a cigarette. If you are treating vaping the same way you treated smoking you may need to rethink your approach, and vape more, and more consistently throughout the day.

Caving in happens. But after a year... there's something going on. After you buy the pack what do you do with it? Don't make it easy once you get the pack. Put it some place where you have to make an effort to actually get a cigarette. I'm not talking about putting it in a magic puzzle box in the attic - just sticking in the hall closet or the top shelf of a cupboard will do. But if you buy a pack, and then carry in your pocket or leave it right out on the coffee table, you are making this way too easy on yourself.
