I'd love a VV but am not trying to pay the price, and still not quite ready to get a bottom feeder. I'm currently using a Riva SE, which apparently starts at 4.2 Volts, but drops after usage.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a device that starts and remains at the 4.4 - 5.0 voltage level? Apparently, that's the sweet spot for many folks.

Any help is appreciated!

You have a couple options, depending on what your price range and voltage preference is.

If you don't know your voltage preference, variable voltage would probably the way to go. It sucks to buy a shiny new 5v mod only to find out that the vape is too hot for you. Contrary to popular belief, variable voltage doesn't have to equal expensive. Right here at ECF is a great place to find many VV mods for a very fair price (Check the small-time modders/accessories forum under buying and selling) MadVapes also has a variable voltage boxmod that goes in and out of stock, only $35 I think and a great way to find out what you prefer. Vapecore also sells some AWESOME looking variable voltage mods.. for a reasonable price as well, $46 I believe. ShanMods at VAPECORE

The other option is a regulated 5v mod. The only problem with this is.. if you don't like it, you have to try other cartomizers/atomizers (different resistances) to try and find the 'perfect vape' as opposed to adjusting a dial. But there are some really cheap and awesome 5v mods out there... a particular one that catches my eye is the 5traight by Shan Burkholder.. which is out of stock unfortunately, but it's only $25.99, it's sold at the Vapecore link I posted above.

The BuzzPro looks cool - kind of like the ProVari, but cheaper. Do you have any recommendations for something similar to the Buzzpro and Provari, but perhaps, slighly cheaper? I'm hesitant to immediately drop over $100 for one of these devices and was looking for an entry level device.

I'd prefer it not to be a 'box' type and more like the provari or buzzpro. I like the styling of the cigarette/futuristic cigar types.

In 3 - 4 weeks notcigs should have their Infinity Pro out, about $30 - $40 less than the BP best I can tell. I presently use the original Infinity, it has been super.
For a taste of HV, you could try a straight (not regulated, and no built-in battery) passthrough, with 2A USB wall wart power supply or 2A cig lighter adapter. Total cost for a PT and one of those two PS is under $25. The only limit is that you cannot/should not try an atomizer or cartomizer below 2.5 ohms (5x5/2.5 = 2 amps). A 3 ohm atty or carto gets you right around 8W power, pretty nice with most liquids. They are commonly available, either 510 or 808 connector. I use the Walmart online IQ dual USB 2A power supply ($10), many of the places that sell the PT also sell the 2A car adapter (or try vapor4life, I saw them there just last week).

If you had the eGo rather than Riva, I'd say get the $60 Ego Booster (which boosts the eGo's voltage anywhere from 3.3 to 4.7V). [As I pointed out in my review, it only works with the Joye eGo.] Even without already owning it, you could buy one eGo battery (which you can charge using your Riva fast charger) from Liberty-Flights (where you probably got your Riva) for $16 (650 mAh) or $17 (900 mAh). Total cost: ~$77 (plus shipping charges).

But, if the Infinity Pro turns out to be what the original Infinity should have been (i.e., better manufactured), that may be the most cost-effective way to get tubular VV. [NOTE: I was very impressed by the Infinity's concept and styling, but deeply disappointed in its execution.]

I'm in the same boat. I only need a VV that goes between 4-5v. Haven't found one. They only make 3.7-6 or 3.7-7. Sure would be nice to fine one that maxes at 5.

If you don't want to run it past 5v then don't turn it past 5v. That's the beauty of "variable", it's up to you.

If you're looking at it from a price stand point a VV mod that maxed out at 5v wouldn't likely be any cheaper. They still have to have the same parts in them "regulator" and a regulator with a more limited range wouldn't be any cheaper.

I've heard about the Infinity and seen a few pictures - it looks really nice and much more affordable than the Pro-vari. Any estimates of the cost and release date? Why is it cheaper than the buzz-pro?

I hope it's soon. I want to upgrade from my ego and the inf pro sounds like it would be the next best step if the price is right. If it's going to be in the $120+ price range like the buzz pro is, might as well go with the provari.....

I'm pretty sure the new infinity pro uses a coated circuit, same as buzz pro.
In 5 months of fairly heavy daily use I've had exactly one problem, early on, fixed quickly. I've vaped 6 ml/ day, every day, run all day without changing batteries. The pv has had more than it's fair share of drops onto hard surfaces, no problem. I'm not sure what else one can ask from a pv :)

I wish I knew what port9nka means when he/she says his/her infinity is unsealed. I get a different taste on my infinity than I do on my box mod at the same voltage and using the same atty.

by unsealed they mean that the atomizer connection has a hole in it that will allow excess juice to flow into the mod.
