I have a Trustfire dual battery charger that I use to charge my Trustfire 18650 batteries. I've had the charger for about 2 months. I have 4 batteries, 2 are about 6 months old, the other 2 about 4 months old. The charger makes a humming/whistling noise when I plug it in. Sometimes it hums for an hour, sometimes just a few minutes and it's really loud, then suddenly the volume of the humming drops down to a barely noticeable level.

I am sure I have the batteries inserted correctly, the batteries are not damaged in any way, the charger is not damaged in any way. I have the charger plugged in correctly. It hums no matter what outlet I use in the apartment. Thus far I have not tried plugging it into a surge protector. The humming started about 3 weeks after I got the charger. I emailed the merchant who said as long as the lights go from red to green and the batteries charge there is nothing wrong with it. But that noise really freaks me out! What's your opinion?

Trustfire chargers are decent, to be sure, but they're definitely in the disposable price range. I ditched mine about 6 months ago and picked up a PILA charger, which is rock solid.

Actually, the reason that I decided to get a better charger was when I had the revelation that I was using 20 dollar batteries, in a 300 dollar set-up, and charging my batteries in a 10 dollar charger. The math didn't seem to add up, and I had been reading good things about the PILA charger. I have to say, it hasn't let me down yet, or done anything strange. It's plugged into the surge protector on my battery back-up, and the back-up went on the fritz and started turning itself off and on randomly...PILA charger did a strange light thing, so I unplugged it, plugged it back in about 5 minutes later and it's good as new. (Battery back-up's battery had gone bad....I guess they only are good for 10 years or so)

Edit: Easier to type without the baby on my lap.
