When I was growing up I used to watch TV a little. Way less than I do today.
One program that gripped me was the campy Superman!
I loved that series!

Truth, Justice and The American Way!!

Its kinda programmed in me as maybe most post WWII kids were...

But seriously, I think people kinda lived and believed in such a thing.

I used to see it in people and things, and maybe in an american attitude here and there.
Yes an American attitude....not PC i guess anymore. :(

Sadly when I look around these days I see little of that premise anywhere.

There's no more Truth...just shades of gray spun out of control for our own good.
There's no more Justice...just whats expedient and economical in terms of dollars ans cents.

And The saddest of all, No more American Way...We just dont get together as americans any more.

Fourth of July? Meaningless...kids dont even know what it is.
All of the wars fought for liberty? Lost in the haziness of time and corporate/politico spins...

Do you feel it any more?
Truth, Justice and the American Way...!

I Loved that Show, and we'll never know the truth about George Reeves' death.

But as to your question...

I think if all boils down to simple falicies that are part of human nature. And it will take a concerted effort to overcome them.

First we believe at an unconscious level that:
1)Human beings are separate from each other. This allows us to view everyone else as 'them' and we (members of our group) as 'us'. Which sets up an agressive stance when dealing with each other right off the bat.

In the early days of the US everyone was in the same boat and they knew it. If the pilgrams did not pull together and work together for the well being of everyone they would most likely die.

2) There is not enough... there is not enough money, food, shelter, love, e-juice; whatever, so I have to get mine before its all gone. BS!! There is plenty of everything if we would accept that we are all in the same boat and share instead of hording.

3) Some human beings are better than others. Another falicy... Non-smokers are not better than smokers, or vap'n is not better than either. These are all just choices that come with consiquences. If you are willing to accept the consiquences you should be able to do whatever you like. Again, if humans didn't accept the first two falicies as truth there would not be prejudice expressed as better or worse, just interesting differences that could enhance our interest in each others preferences.

4) It is acceptable for human beings to to resolve severe differences created by the other falicies by killing each other, or starting legal battles in order to control 'them others'.

Start viewing each other as all in the same boat and make allowances for differing preferences and we could all get along and have more peace.

But, sadly, no it has become the American way to sue until the 'other' is so broke or tired that they give in or go away.

This has been paraphrased from a book by Neal Donald Walsch. But I think the truth of it speaks for itself.

I agree SLH, We have become a nation of litigation-Legalese is the norm and compassion, Respect, Fairness and a wilingness to listen or meet someone half way I feel is gone forever.

When did we become a nation of winners and losers instead of a nation of common good and comon sense?

I dont need to Win or Lose at the expense of my neighbor or community. I guess I was raised in an Era of fairness not Entitlements.
I dont think my fair share of anything has to be more than whatever the guy next to me gets.

Again, I dont need to Win anything at all. Winning is for losers...
