I don't think anyone was trolling (at least not intentionally). My concern, and others, is the lack of (at least perceived - maybe it was done but not posted about?) research BEFORE vaping away on something that could be harmful. There are gases that could be given off by a synthetic material that a vaper may not smell/taste but that is still harmful.

I'm all for ingenuity and improvements. However, it needs to be done responsibly and with forethought. There's no reason to feed the people pushing for bans. Which is what could happen if they claim "look, people are just shoving any old thing in there!"

Clear as mud? (This is why I married an Editor, my writting is less than swell most of the time!)

Your concerns are well placed.

I'll do some research on this and post it on this thread as I find it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sponge_(material)

Seems most synthetic sponges are made of a polyester - some types of bath sponges are a "double-blown" polyester that are "artificially worn-in" before use to increase absorbency. The sponge used on top of the envelope moistener is very dense, so I'm suspecting it's not the "double-blown" type.

According to Wikipedia, the most common polyester is polyethylene terephthalate. Here's some more info:

Melting point is 250 degrees celsius.

The coil of the atomizer gets much hotter than this, but the substance itself makes contact with only the bridge, which is much cooler. Since it is saturated with e-juice, this would have an additional cooling effect.

In any case, IF the sponge substance is polyester, it's the same as poly-fill; which is widely-used in mods.

And IF it is polyester, this makes a better choice that polyfill batting, since there are no stray fibers to wander into the coil area and melt/burn.

I'll attempt to contact the manufacturer tomorrow and find out more about any possible additives, and if this stuff is indeed the substance listed above.

Quite alright if people choose to disagree with my choice of cart material. I have learned not to feed forum trolls :D

for those who might be curious, the sponge is used to transfer water from a bottle to paper. It's a synthetic sponge. Upon doing some heavy vaping with this material. I found it does not melt or burn, even at 5v.

The reason i use a cart is because dripping is out of the question while driving - I sometime drip when sitting at my desk, and even that is annoying having to do it every 2-3 puffs.

Hi,

There are no trolls here for you to feed anyway!

I think the only reason people are concerned is due to the fact that you have no real idea what is in that stuff you are using. If, as you say it's used to transfer water, to my mind, this is not good enough. The only things I feel safe with are the teabags, which we know are safe as they are used in beverages for human consumption, and the blue filters which are also safe as they are used in fish tanks.

Obviously it's your choice as to what you use. I just hope you don't find out at a later date that it is harmful.

Also, because people choose not to agree with you, does not make them trolls.

See...IF you had contacted the manufacturer BEFORE using this stuff and IF you had secure enough evidence that the material is safe THEN we MIGHT have different remarks to make.

As it is it MAY be a good idea to STOP using that sponge UNTIL you have further info.

May i remind you that some polyfill that looks exactly like the one used in the carts IS dangerous as it contains fire ......ant chemicals as reported on ECF (v.g. pillow stuffing ).

So your premises are not good enough: the fact that it is POLYESTER does not make it safe by itself!

Is the polyfill from Wal-Mart used as crib batting contain the fire-......ant chemical? This is the one I have at home.

When I made this comment, the smart ... comments stopped and we actually got into a real discussion about it. :D
Nope! You are totally wrong with that statement. If you follow the discussion carefully, the sarcasm is still there, just more subtle.

Every new vaper has found the secret to better performance, in your case it was the crumpled kleenex, moments later, a days perhap, it was the orange foam mod. What will it be tomorrow?

I thought it took more of a tone of righteous anger from that point on, rather than sarcasm.

Well, I guess you won't be interested in the rat pellet mod.

Super absorbent material, wicks great and releases fluid like a charm.

It's only poisonous if you believe it to be. The power of the mind trumps all.
