So, I'm a smoker and I chew as well. I'll be 24 next month and decided I'd like to really try to quit now before it's too late. I previously bought a blucig and loved it at first. Then it went downhill from there. The batts were defective and the carts only lasted for 10 puffs max. Something was definitely wrong with it. I'd like to give ecigs a try again, and am here to get the best recommendations on what to buy. I'd like to only initially spend $40-$50USD so that I don't blow a bunch of money in the chance that I don't like it. I'm looking for good throat hit, lots of vapor, high quality, and that's about it. I don't mind refilling carts or anything. I also don't care if it looks like an analog. I don't need fancy led lights on the tips, but I don't mind if it has one. Is there something out there that I can buy like a high quality starter kit? I was looking at the ego found here: Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Joye eGo It seems to be pretty nice. Does it include everything I need to start vaping? Other recommendations are of course welcome as well. Thanks for the help! MODS: Please move this to the correct section if this isn't it.

The Ego and also Riva kits are basically the same and are very good for transitioning over. I think you'll be thrilled with either of them in relation to your blu. Most report 6-8 hours or more between charges. I was getting 2 days or more with mine but I guess I'm not as hard core as some. With your budget either one of those are the way to go imo.

Research and pick up some juice sampler packs also. The prefilled carts that come with those or most any kit for that matter...SUCKS.

I'd go for the Riva at LF if you're concerned about the money the ego/riva perform about the same, but the riva is cheaper and in stock. I'd throw in a drip tip as well. Easiest way to sample flavors and vape. You need at least 30 ml of juice to begin! If you want to make it easy on yourself and order everything at once I would buy some LF 5ml samples when you buy your kit. Of the LF juices I have tried (all tobacco) I like the Highway the best, but they have plenty of other flavors. Their juices are not my favorite, nor the cheapest out there, but they are good to begin with. You can get started for under $50 reasonably.

The Joye eGO is an excellent choice. It has worked for me (45 year 1-1/2 to 2 PAD smoker). The only other thing you will need to start off with is some juice...probably 18 to 24 mg of nicotine to start. Search the forum for juice recommendations at Liberty Flights. Since you also chew, you may like some of the more exotic flavors right off the bat. Good luck, beatlesfan, and welcome to the forum. You found the right place.

Wow! Thanks for the quick responses everyone! Seems like liberty flights is the right place to get my stuff from then? Also let me note that I'm a menthol smoker. Marlboro Menthols, and my dip of choice is Skoal Mint long cut. So I do enjoy the menthol lol. What's regarded as the best menthol liquid?

EDIT: What's the difference between the Rivia 510 and the 901 and the EGO?

If you're looking at the eGo you're on the right track. It's so much better than the overpriced, underperforming Blu. The Riva is basically the same and it's cheaper through Liberty Flights so you might want to consider that one and put the savings into a spare atty or more juice. Here's the link Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510. They do have a discount code for 20% off that runs through mid December, it's october20. But since it's already mid December you might want to order soon.

I have an Inferno from Volcano (ego variant) and I love it. I've been strictly vaping for over 2 weeks now and have not touched a cigarette since then. I probably would have quit several weeks sooner if I had ordered more juice flavors to try right off the bat.
One thing I can suggest, since it sounds like the Ego would work good for you, is to get the bigger battery. I have the 1000mah battery that Volcano offers for the inferno and it lasts me all day. If I vape heavily all day (from 6 a.m and on) then it might need to be charged by about 8 pm, and that's when I'm constantly puffing on it, and I also tend to take long draws because I like a ton of vapor. If I'm vaping moderately (I'd consider this about like smoking a pack or so of cigarettes per day, though it's really hard to compare the two exactly) it will last all day and some of the next. Going lightly (doing stuff during the day and just picking it up to take a puff here and there) I have had it last 4 days before.
I actually ordered an extra big battery just for when I'm vaping very heavily and need to switch them out (I have a Magma, like a 510, but I prefer my Inferno :) ).

I would suggest ordering extra atomizers. I have two (one that came with my infero and one with my magma) and I noticed the one did not work right directly from them, had to be cleaned a couple of times before it started working right. FINALLY it seems to have broken in and is producing as much vapor as my original, but the original never needed any of that. You can also get duds sometimes, so it's good to have extras. And the life is only about a month on them, sometimes much more, sometimes a bit less, so you don't want to be left without any atty and no way to vape.

The Riva 510 and 901 take different atomizers or cartomizers. The eGo takes 510 parts. The 510 is kind of becoming a standard because the eGo is so popular. It's easy to find 510 parts and they're available in more variety. 901's aren't bad and some people prefer them to the 510 atomizers. I haven't tried 901 stuff but someone who has will probably tell you what's good or bad about it.

Remember, everyone's taste is different so you will get a wide range of responses to what is the "best." The best menthol juice for me is the Max Ultimate menthol from Vaporbomb. It is a strong menthol with a hint of tobacco taste. I was a menthol smoker for many years (Newport and Marlboro Mild) and the VB Max Ultimate menthol reminds me of those.

The 501 and 901 use different threads and perform differently. I would recommend the 501 to begin with because the accessories are more widely available. The 501 eGo and Riva are very similar to each other, I really can't tell the difference other than the button. I just prefer the Riva because to me the button and flush band are more comfortable.

Thanks a lot for your help! I just ordered the Rivia 510 and am now trying to pick out flavors from the Christmas Special Sampler link you provided. These two orders contain all I need to get started right?

EDIT: Also, should I choose VG or the PG/VG blend?

PG is thinner and produces more of a throat hit.
VG is thicker and produces more vapor.
50/50 is a pretty good place to start.

Some people have allergy problems with 100% pg.

You made a good decision with Liberty Flights. I use them and they are a reputable, dependable supplier. ECF (this forum) has them on the 'supplier' list. ECF is pretty careful about suppliers they recommend to the members here.

Happy Vaping,
Paula

Yes, that should be all you need to get you started, to see if you like it. I can't recommend the juices from Blue Mist because I haven't used them before, but it is a good beginner sale to sample juices. I just ordered the sampler packs today from them. I would get a couple 5ml samples from LF as well. You don't want to run out of juice and since there is a learning curve to vaping, I used (and wasted) a lot of juice in my first month.

I personally thought the awesome vapor menthol was the best I tried so far (I have by no means tried that many yet) and I ended up ordering it in a large bottle. I can at least tell you that it's a very strong mint/menthol flavor without a bunch of tobacco taste. I found the Johnson Creek Arctic Menthol to be the least pleasing, with not very strong menthol and more of a tobacco taste. Though I can see the appeal of that for some, I personally wanted a stronger mint/menthol flavor.
As far as just straight menthol with very little if any minty taste, the volcano menthol was pretty good for that.

But like everyone said, it's really gonna depend on YOU. I'm just trying to give a few suggestions as to what you may like, and perhaps you could pick some flavors based on my descriptions (I also found the reviews on some of the sites helpful as a few people went into a lot of detail on the flavor), but that doesn't mean your taste will be the same as mine at all. So there's really no way for you to get around having to try a whole ton of flavors before you see what you like. On the other hand, I've found it really fun to try all kinds of flavors, so I don't think that's a down side :) .

I smoked for 36 years, Marlboro Menthol Lights. I started out with menthol juice, but four months later I just got rid of all my menthol juice! I thought I'd like fruit flavors, but my favorite flavors are cinnamon, waffle, and bear claw, all from different vendors. Order small samples until you figure out what you like. Your taste buds will probably change, too, so a flavor you don't like immediately might end up being a favorite next month. Some vendors sell samples that are ready to vape, and other juice needs time to steep (there's lots of info on steeping if you do a search), so there are a lot of variables in finding what you like. It can be frustrating, but with a little patience and multiple orders, you should be able to find flavors that will keep you away from cigarettes. One of my favorites, bear claw, was a free sample from the vendor, I probably wouldn't have ever ordered it, and I LOVE it.

CHEERS!
