I have tried to quit smoking many times and go straight to vapping. I have tried so many different tanks and mods and always have issues and give up. I live in a small town where we don't have a vape shop so I can't go to someone who KNOWS what they are talking about. I just bought the I stick eleaf 50w and the uwell crown .50 ohms. What settings do I need to set my mod on? The reason I did this mod with this tank is because my boyfriend uses it and it works great for him. I like flavor over cloud, if that helps.

Most tanks with "drop in coils" (ie no building drop it in and it works) usually have recommended wattage on them and ive always managed find a preferred power option in that. All i know is that the crown III requires alot of power and that tiny istick might not be enough for those massive coils but meh whatever suits you is "the best"

Hi and welcome to ecf. General suggestion for settings is to start low and bump up the watts until you go past your happy place then dial back down. Also with a new coil start low and then increase to your preferred settings as in helps to break in new coil and or wick.
It took me a few months of vaping to make the transition. It's a nasty addiction to overcome and don't give up cause you returned to cigs for a smoke or a pack.
I had to limit my time around friends who I used to smoke with as that would trigger me and still does some days.
Yes we all know or read about those who are able to leave cigs behind as soon as they have their first vape but for many it doesn't work like that.
Good luck and wish you success in the transition.

I like the Uwell Crown (Original) and the 0.5ohm coils. I also think the iStick 50w was a good inbuilt battery mod, but the reliability was not all that special. Eleaf replaced it with the iPower80w and I have not heard of an unusual level of issues. I hope you got a good price on the 50w!
For me, the 0.5ohm coil was definitely in the 30-35w range. Less and it never really gets going and too much more... hmm... your mileage my vary.
I can't say much about the Uwell 2 and 3, but @QcVaper is probably right about needing lots of power. :)

Welcome to ECF.
Assuming you have the original Crown, start at 20w. You will get very little vapor, raise 3w at a time until you find your sweet spot. Takes a few mls to break in those coils, don't give up on it if flavor isn't great right off.
Took me 5 months to give up my last cig. Many of us were dual users for awhile. Don't get discouraged if you smoke a few. Every cig you don't smoke is a win.

Hi readytostartover. Welcome to the ECF.

I'm not going to BS you. Quitting Smoking can be Very Difficult for some people. I know that it was for Me.

But You Can Do It!

The set-up you have is a Great set-up. And Good Call of getting something that Boyfriend has so he can Help you with it.

Get rid of all the Lighters and Ashtrays that remind you of Smoking. Drink a lot of Water. Chew Gum and or Suck on Candy. And try to get a Little More Exercise than you Normally do. Like Talking a Quick Walk at Lunch or after Dinner.

You Can Make it. But sometimes you will just have to Grit Your Teeth and so...

"No! I'm Not Going to Smoke a Cigarette Today. Maybe Tomorrow I'll Smoke a Whole Pack before Noon. But Not Today!".

You don't mention your previous setups. What nic strength did you use? I know some members have trouble kicking the smokes and have found success in something called Whole Tobacco Alkaloids(WTA). It is an additive derived from the tobacco leaf that contains some of the properties that people become addicted to when smoking. This may be just the thing to get you over the hump. Do a search here at ECF to find additional info.

Good luck.

Well said. I know more successful vapers who didn't opt for cold turkey than those that did.
Actually, I have understated that comment. Almost every person I know who just let vaping 'happen' to them quit smoking in a few months. I also sadly know some people who tried to quit instantly, called vaping many rude things (after failing to quit smoking) and now play the roulette of inhaling tobacco smoke as their fate.
It would be interesting to get some data of that sort of thing.

Hi and welcome. I found it easier to give up smoking using an MTL tank initially. It was more like smoking. I used (and still do) a Nautilus 2 tank. I think if I had started straight on a DTL tank like the one you've got, then I would have found it a lot harder to give up. An MTL tank also allowed me to use higher nicotine strength juice.

There are basically two ways to quit and switch to vaping. Co-use vape but smoke less and wean away the cigarettes. Vape and give up the cigarettes.

I went with vape only no smoking. I went with high nic at that point around 48 mg. It was doable but rough for a couple weeks. There is something other than just nicotine in cigs that your body is used to and demanding.

I have since lowered the nic to 3 mg while upping the vapor production and I am good with that never even wanting a cigarette.

Everyone is different so keep trying until you find what works for you.

As @Sugar_and_Spice mentioned, WTA may help. I know it did for me (and many others).

One of the better suppliers (imho) has it's own forum here. Aroma Ejuice (Read through the Unflavored WTA reviews and reactions thread.) They are having a 30% off sale tomorrow (code - CYBER). Aroma Ejuice Manufacturer of WTA Whole Tobacco Alkaloid Eliquid It is a little pricey, but worth it for those of us that need it. (Not everyone does.)

I mix the unflavored @ 10% into my regular juice.

I concur with this statement. Heck I'll build 1.0 Ohm and run them at 30 watts. Dial in your airflow until the flavor peaks and it's vape heaven :vapor:

As long as you're using a setup that's easy for you to use and you can find your sweet spot for what you want out of it be it TH, flavor, less vapor, more vapor... etc. Then you know you're on the road to success. I think everybody goes through a menagerie of vape gear/liquids before they find what works for them.

The important part is to keep trying and don't give up!

What don't you like about the settings your boyfriend uses with the same set up?

I hope you can find a sweet spot, relax and enjoy vaping. I had to modify my inhale technique. Vaping isn't the same inhale as it was with the stinkies. But I vape 1.7-1.9ohm and 8.3-8.5watts. Aspire Nautilus 1.8 coils or an RTA built to approx 1.8 in a Kabuki, Doggystyle RTA or Billet Box (air wide open) ... tootle mostly sorta. I start the inhale with a brief second of DL, than kinda close my airway to finish the inhale as MTL ... sorta. Had to do that to get the volume and density of vapor I like while using those ohms and wattage and maintaining a cool vape which I prefer. So yeah, a hard to describe vape inhale that differs from my old stinkies inhale.

I had to stick with it until dialed into what I enjoy most. Everyone does. I only mention my vape journey and sweet spot because it's typical to have to adjust to vaping when giving up the stinkies. It took me a long time to find "my vape". I started with subohm and TC. Didn't like it. Honestly, it wasn't until someone suggested that for my style, ohms and watts (I found I enjoyed most) ... take the resistance and add 2 to the value. That will equal an ideal voltage to start at. Turns out, I add ... 2.1 + resistance (1.8ohms for example) = ideal voltage (3.9V). Don't think that math would work for subohm though or something other than kanthal.

There are just so many options and settings all over the place and different sweet spots for different people, it's hard to suggest something beyond start low power and work your way up to something that works for you. If you've tried everything with a subohm mod or 2, subohm may not ultimately be your sweet spot. Good Luck !!!

I can't really give too much advice on your setup but welcome to ECF, and I hope the transition is smoother this time. I dual used for a bit while finding my vaping legs, and whole tobacco alkaloid juice (I used Aroma's) was a big help to me as I was detoxing. I was able to wean myself from it but it was very helpful as I was transitioning it eased my detox symptoms (some). I also found I preferred nicotine salts (a less harsh of a throat hit and slightly faster absorption than regular nicotine, reportedly) and that is what I use for DIY mixes.

Best of luck, just keep vaping, and don't stop, whatever you do. That was the advice I got here, and I followed it, I would vape right before and right after I smoked, and eventually I was able to get to vaping only. Best of luck, and I wish you all the success in the world.

Welcome - I won't tell you it's hard...you've already found that out. +1 on Skreech's comment about choosing an MTL tank. I, too, used the Nautilus 2 to start, and believe it's a great choice. I've gotten family members and friends to quit with that tank since I have. You're trying to replace cigs, so IMO, it's best to choose something that'll help do that, rather than giving up cigs and trying to learn to DTL and be satisfied with that at the same time.

Haven't seen too many mentions about the juice, but I believe that's just as important as the equipment. I'd highly recommend getting a good tobacco juice. Hard to say what would work for each individual, but Halo Tribeca and Indigo Duke worked pretty well for me for the first couple of months. Now I know there are even better ones out there. You might try a popular NET (naturally extracted tobacco) like something from Heather's Heavenly Vapes, or N.E.T. Others will have suggestions for you as well. Do a little googling and see what sounds good. Don't be afraid of the nic...start high - something like 18mg or more to help you get started (less if you're sub ohm'ing and DTL).

For me the first couple of weeks were pretty rough, but I just said "I ain't going back," and stuck with it. Most of the day can be okay, then you might hit an hour or so when you just can't seem to hit the vape enough. But it does get easier, and pretty quickly after that first rough patch. In no time, you'll find yourself wanting the vape instead of a cigarette. Just stick with it, and it'll come. And fyi, I smoked over 45 years. Quit a few times. Tried vaping back around 2010, but equipment and quality was nowhere near what it is now. Just quit again in April. After 3 months, I tried a cig just to see, and it tasted ok, but was really pretty nasty - you can feel all that garbage in your system. It gave me a headache the rest of the day, and I haven't had one or wanted one since since.

Lots of people will be here to help you - just ping them with any questions, and you'll find all the knowledge and support you could want.

Welcome to ECF. I am just like you. Picked up vaping (first puff was on Blu disposable) in 2013.

On and off through 2014---2017, dual using and going full analog often. I didn't quit smoking until May this year.

I also used Eleaf mods and tanks like yours. What made the difference was sub-ohm, direct lung vaping at 30 to 40 Watts, aiming at flavor.

What also worked was lots and lots of different flavors in multiple tanks. I would use as many as six different tanks and chain vape.

What also worked was higher nic juice early on. I went from 18 to 12 to 9 and stayed at 6.

And finally, I realized that if I stopped buying them I'd stop smoking those nasty things.

I started with mtl and found it frustrating. Just couldn't get a decent lung hit. Wasn't until I discovered dtl I saw the possibility to actually quit smoking. Within a week or two was down to 5 smokes a day. Stayed there for awhile and finally decided to just not buy another pack. First few days waking up to no cig was difficult, but by then was able to resist the urge to get dressed and go buy a pack. That was 2 1/2 years ago. We all had to find our path to quitting, you will too.
