trying to build a variable watt/volt combo, need help.

Hi all,
I've been using e-cigs for a while. A few months ago I upgraded to the itazte vv/vw by innokin with iclear16D tanks. I mostly like the setup but one thing I dont understand is I've always thought i understood ohm's law: W = V²/R or voltage(x2) divided by resistance equals wattage. On the itazte i can (supposedly) set voltage at 3.5 and then set wattage at 6w, regardless of resistance. I don't see how I can use a 2.1ohm iclear and set the voltage to 5v and set the wattage to 6w; this should be outputting ~12w regardless. Or maybe it sets only one watts or volts? i mean it has to really.

Anyway the point i'm getting to is that the lowest I can go on this setup is 5.18 watts, what I'd like is to find a clearo as good as the 16D (i like the coil on bottom) that has higher resistance since the 16d only comes in 2.1ohms OR i'd like to find a variable voltage battery that fits 16Ds with a lower voltage range thats abbout as good as my itazte.

Before the itazte i was using ego 510's (i think) which I came to realize burn ridiculously hot, if you power it on empty you can see the heating element get red hot within a second. I don't want to boil my nicotine I want to vaporize it. Frankly I hope the FDA and alike find a way to limit how hot these can burn if makers dont do it themselves, basically keep it so that these are vaporizers and not simply electric burners. Once you burn nicotine drops you are much closer to simply smoking a cigarette.

I'd like to get either 1) Something identical to the iclear16D with higher resistence (ohms) or 2)I'd like to get a battery similar to the itazte vv/vw that has voltage from about 2.6volts and up or wattage from 3w and up. any tips?

You just set the wattage, if you are changing the voltage you are changing the pv over to variable volt mode. It's one or the other, not both. Set the voltage to the lowest setting and leave it alone, forever. There is absolutely no reason to be messing with it. Set the wattage where you want it, for most people this is somewhere in the 6-10 watt range. The device has a hard 11 watt limit, you won't be breaking that no matter what you set the voltage to, if you try to go higher than that using variable voltage mode it just ignores it anyway. I don't believe there is anything available that goes to voltage and wattage that low, and coils are supposed to glow. The liquid atomized is being flash atomized, not boiled, it's supposed to be ridiculously hot.

In short, you need to use your device correctly and then decide if you even really need a new device. In order:

1. Set the voltage to the lowest setting and never touch it again.

2. Set your wattage to 8 watts.

3. Try a vape, if you like the vape go to step 6

4. Is the vape too strong? Then turn the wattage down one .5 watt step and go back to step 3.

5. Is the vape too weak? Then turn the wattage up one .5 watt step and go back to step 3.

6. You are done!

With a vv/vw devise you either set it to variable voltage OR variable wattage. The benefit to variable wattage is that you can change the resistance of your atomizer and the devise will change the voltage to give you basically the same vape as you had with your previous coil.

Why do you want to go lower than 5.18 watts?

All coils will turn red when there is no e-liquid present. The reason stock coils heat up so fast is that if they were to heat up slower most entry level batteries (the ones that automatically shut off after 10 seconds or sooner) would cut off before the devise has time to vaporize the e-liquid.

This fast heating of the coil is only a problem if your clearomizer is not able to feed the e-liquid fast enough to keep up with the battery. When this happens you get what are called "dry hits" resulting in a "burnt taste". It this is happening to you try taking a "primer hit" (without engaging the battery). This will pull more e-liquid into the coil so that when you do engage the battery there is e-liquid available to vaporize.

Clearomizers such as the Aerotank or the Nautilius have very successfully addressed this problem by adding airflow control to their tanks.

Again, the problem you are having has more to do with your hardware. How fast (or slow) the coil heats up is related to the gauge of wire used in your coil. Stock coils use a higher gauge wire in their coils and do so for a reason (covered above).

As you gain more experience and more knowledge you will begin to see the benefit of having different gauge wire available to make coils.

I was guessing thats how it was since i knew it couldnt do both. I set the voltage though since by setting it at 3.3v I can get 5.18w (w/ 2.1 ohms). Like i said though, I'd like to go lower than this or at least be able to try it out. settings at 6w and above seem to bother my throat and give me alot of phlegm. I still get alot of vapor at 5.18w though, I know I cant go much lower but I'd like to have the option.

have you considered buying a RDA or RBA, and using them to run a 3 or 3.5oHm coil? You can definitely get there with your current device, but probably not with your current atomizer set up. The heads in those iclears are just no good for rebuilding yourself and they don't offer much in the way of choices for resistance. You could get a kayfun of some kind which is designed to be rebuildable, or a protank/aerotank which lots of people recoil themselves, you could get either one of those in the mini version if you are worried about them being too big on top of your device.
