That's odd that a 3/2 would be too high. When I first start wrapping my own I didn't know any better and was using 36g with, I believe, a 4/5 wrap and was getting around 3 to 4 ohms. Be sure your wraps aren't too big. These days I build my coils first by wrapping them around a screw driving that is about the size of a 1/16 inch drill bit, install them on the atomizer, do a couple dry burns, and then put the cotton through.

Depends on what you are wrapping it around and amount of wraps as the total length of the wire is what gives you the resistance. I use a 1/16th inch drill bit with 32 gauge Kanthal, five wraps gives me about 1.8 ohms. I use cotton for a wick. If you are using a thicker mandrel (or wick material to wrap the coil around) you will get a higher ohm coil. To get a lower resistance with the same length of wire you would need to switch to a thicker (smaller gauge number) Kanthal..
Kanthal resistances:
Kanthal A-1 Wire Specs: (Ohms Per Inch)
•28 AWG- 0.439 Ohms/in, 0.0508 Diameter (in.)
•30 AWG- 0.696 Ohms/in, 0.0100 Diameter (in.)
•32 AWG- 1.091 Ohms/in, 0.0080 Diameter (in.)
•33 AWG- 1.383 Ohms/in, 0.0071 Diameter (in.)
•34 AWG- 1.758 Ohms/in, 0.0063 Diameter (in.)

Hehehe .. it could be worse. The first 15-20 coils I wrapped checked just fine on my ohm meter but when I screwed my Taifun on my Provari and checked the resistance I kept getting "Op" which I interpreted as a short. I'd cuss for a minute or two, then stare at it for awhile using a magnifying glass, poke at it a bit and then toss it and start over. I did this over the course of 2-3 days while my shiny new Taifun smirked at me.

It wasn't until I screwed it on an old Joyetech twist that I realized the adjustable contact on the Taifun was screwed all the way in and wasn't making contact with the Provari. That was one of those "Oh ....." moments where you stare at the wall for a moment, put everything down and go grab a beer.
