Hi Everyone,
I have been off analogs for nearly 3 months now and I have been trying to get the other smokers in my family to give them up as well. My dad without a doubt needs to stop. He is still a 2 pack a day Marlboro Red smoker.

I have a Joy eGo and I love it, but my dad tried it and he said he liked it but he thought it was a little to heavy and that he would prefer an ecig that is similar to that of a real cigarette, with a clip on it so he can carry it in his shirt pocket.

I am trying to take all the guess work out of the ecig for him, I finally found a tabacco flavor he will probably like now I need to get him the ecig. Any suggestions for an ecig I can get him, I was thinking about the joye 510 kit. Has anyone tried this and how is the throat hit with it.

Thanks for any suggestions

The Joye 510 is a good idea. The throat hit should equal your Ego. It will just require charging a lot more often. I don't know if they come with a pocket clip, but you might be able to find a ball point pen with a clip you can slip off and put on the 510 with a little modification.

A note of caution: Do not try to charge the 510 with your Ego charger. It will probably fry the battery.

ETA: If he is a 2 PAD smoker, get a couple extra batteries with the kit. One battery will only last a couple hours per charge at the most. But you knew this.

The 510 is a great idea for what he's after. I would also suggest getting him a pack of Boge or SmokTech cartomizers and maybe some lighter juice, since he seems to think what you're vaping is too storng. The cartomizers would be easier to handle because you don't have to top them up nearly as often. Get a 510 drip tip or whistle tip too so it's easier to fill without having to get something to shove into the little hole to take the silicone cap off. Maybe get an automatic battery kit too so there's no button he has to remember to press, he can just straight up take drags. No guesswork.

If he really wants something smaller you might want to check out the Volt from smokeless image but let him know up front that the battery life is limited. If you do go with this I recommend getting at least 4 batteries. I do really like the Volt even more than my mod due to ease of use and vapor production.

You can also get the Smoov from Juicy Vapor. It's basically the same as the Volt but with some enhancements and the option of 50mm 220mAh or 65mm 330mAh batteries. Kits come with a PCC as well. Haven't tried one but they look pretty decent and reviews seem generally positive.

With a standard 510 you are limited to standard resistance atomizers or cartos, due to the current capacity of the batteries -- trying to use 2 ohm or lower is not advised. This may directly relate to throat hit, if what you gave your dad to try had one of the lower resistance atties or cartos.

A 510 Mega or XL, 280 mAh, battery is probably "better" than a standard 510 battery, unless your dad is a very light/infrequent smoker.

In the keep-it-simple vein I would also put the 808 (KR808D-1) up for consideration. They are a true 3.7/3.8V device, the higher voltage means more power/vapor/hit for a given resistance carto. The standard 808 battery is 280 mAh, while 808 XL or Mega is 380 mAh. (More mAh directly equates to longer runtime between charges). A standard 808 kit, 2 batteries, charger, initial 5 cartos, runs $35 - $50. The 808 are noticeably slimmer/lighter than a Riva or eGo; standard is about like a 100 cig, while XL is about like a long cig -- a virginia slim or the like.

Volt or Max Fusion represent new generation 808D-1. I personally have zero experience with them compared to normal 808, which I found pretty decent.

If you do want to go with the standard 510, I believe Madvapes has a simple starter kit, 1 battery, 1 charger, maybe 1 prefilled carto, for like $10 (I just saw it mentioned on a PIF thread). Maybe buy 2 of those kits, then if he "takes" to it you can pick up a third battery later, and if not you have a couple of kits to use with any friends who are in the "maybe" camp, want to see what vaping is like.

Good luck!

I love my 510's but agree that the Volt may be a better option for your dad because of the prefilled cartos. This way he can either save some $ buy filling them himself or choose the convenience of the prefilled.

If he does this get yourself a 510 to 808 adapter so you can reuse his 808 cartos on your ego. Another good option is the Halo G-6. Essentially the same hardware just another option for prefilled flavors to get him started.

For what it's worth, I've been using 1.7ohm single-coil cartos on my 510 without an issue. Battery life is diminished, naturally, but they work very well indeed.

I've been vaping for 6 months. I have a joye 510 and a riva 510 (ego clone). I still use the joye 510's the most. they do well for me, I don't even have much of a desire for a mod :) I use smart carts, which cuts down on the cart refilling. but cartos are good too. I smoked 2 packs a day....sometimes more. that is probably the reason I carry 2 PVs with me at all times. I am a chain vapor (was a chain smoker too) so carrying 2 around with me keeps my attys from getting too hot and makes the battery life seem longer <g>
