Hey all,

You all were such a great help to me, so I'm back and trying to get my mom to start on the vaping trend.

For me I've been smoke free for about 6 weeks (maybe 7) it's certainly been a learning curve, but it's nice to say I'm no longer a smoker. Still trying to find the perfect juice and what not but I'm getting there.

So onto the question -my mom has been smoking probably 40 years - 1-2pad and she smokes pall-mall. She's been diagnosed with OCPD and emphzema and hacks like crazy. She has other health issues as well but I don't know what they are. She's a mess.
So I'm sending her my old joye 510 with cartridges and several juices (I have laying around) for her to give the e-cig a go. Then she can move on to the ego if she decides she likes it. So this question is for you 40+ years smokers - what juice (not all the flavory stuff) do you like? What company makes something similiar to pall mall? I don't think she will like my stuff as I use to smoke marlboro lights and the juice I use isn't strong enough to compare to what she smokes.

Thanks bunches!!!

My mother in law switched a few weeks after I did (we bought her an eGo-T). She's pushing 60 and smoked for around 45 years. She hasn't been diagnosed with emphysema or COPD but has many of the same symptoms your mother does (she probably does have it).

She has been going strong since without fail. She is a coffee'holic so vapes mostly coffee flavors but also enjoys Dr Pepper juice and I also turned her onto Banana's Foster. She's much like me that if she was to give it up, she didn't want tobacco flavors.

I can't speak however for the water in lungs but haven't heard of any issues like that. Might be good for her to run it by her doctor just to be on the safe side but am certain many will chime in here with more anecdotal information.

I wish you both the best of luck but let her know it CAN be done! Vaping proves that you can teach an old dog new tricks and reap the benefits from it!

my mother also has OPCD, she has to use a nubulizer three times a day which to me would be about the same as vaping.
my mom was actually able to quit cold turkey after about 50 yrs of smoking. i don't know how but she did it

I am sure that any doctor would rather see their patient vape then continue smoking.

i don't have any recommendations for a liquid to match Pall Mall.

Best of luck to both of you.

    in a cave, eh?
Well, the e-cigarettes tend to dehydrate you. They will suck moisture out of your lungs. So you want to ensure you drink enough water. Water collecting in her lungs won't be a problem.

As far as flavours go, I hear good things about blueberry pancake and cheesecake. RY4 is a good tobacco blend (but there is a lot of variation in flavours). I'm partial to Pina Colada and Cohiba, myself. If it has to be Pall Mall, there appears to be a few vendors who sell it. But as an e-liquid, it could be iffy. Your mom might be a tough nut to crack. Good luck with that.

Your mom probably won't find a juice that is exactly like Pall Mall. None or at least most of the tobacco juices don't taste like the real thing but Backwoods Brew as a large assortment of tobacco flavors and she might find one that is adequate or even likes better than her Pall Malls. I'm sure somebody else will come along with other places to get good tobacco juice. Good luck with mom.

My mom has COPD and smoked for close to 60 years. Quit when she started vaping with no real problems to speak of. She started out with a KR808 with prefilled carts, quickly moved onto a Riva but occasionally uses the KR808. She vaped 36 for the first two weeks to get her off the cigs. Now she vapes 6 mg.

She likes all of the Backwoods Brew tobacco juices. She started with 555 and Virginia and her current fav is Casablanca.

I bought my mother a Le Cig for Mother's Day and she loves it... but at first it took some time. Mainly me sending her different carto flavors. Tried several menthol since that's what she was smoking. Finally hit on Jeremy's Black Tea Blend from Vapor Kings.

I think you just have to try a few flavors and see what hits.

LiteCigUSA's Dekang Kamel Turkish Blend has some great views as far as tobacco goes. I didn't smoke Camels (American Spirits for me) but I'm liking it. I'm not sure if it tastes like Camel but I wanted to make sure it tasted like tobacco. Here are three reviews I found compelling.:

"... best tobacco flavored liquid i have tried so far and i was a marlboro light smoker this in my 510 at 11mg reminds me of a analog cigeratte nothing will taste like the real thing but this is pretty darn close the only tabaco one i will order again"

"I've tried many tobacco flavors rarely do they taste anything like the actual tobacco they claim to be. This one actually hits the head on the nail, almost identical to a Camel."

"I was very surprised at the authenticity of this juice. There's only one taste like Turkish tobacco, and this juice nailed it big time. It's perfect. Whoever made this stuff knows what they're doing."

Oh and I use the 16mg (which they only have in 10ml right now, I think) and I get a good strong buzz, about the same as an analog. I smoked less than 1/2 pack a day though, so maybe you need more.

Good luck, I hope your mom takes to the e-cigs. I hope mind does too!

Congrats to you and good luck to your Mom. She's lucky to have you 6 or 7 weeks out front knowing what to do and caring. For juice - here's 2 cents: nothing is going to taste like a Pall Mall. Maybe just tobacco to start like most of us did and not throw flavors in the mix too early. Lots of good tobacco flavors here on ECF. GourmetVapor's Red Marble has a definite tobacco flavor with a clean finish rather than lingering layers of flavor. Hope that makes sense. If she tires of it or wants a variety it mixes well with coffee, carmels, toffee and vanilla flavors. They're having a 50% off 4th of July sale right now. WetYourStick also has a tobacco that reminds me of cigarette tobacco named Tobacco. Good luck with Mom :)

I smoked for 40+ years. COPD/Severe Asthma(on 02 24/7)-Severe Allergies amongst other things-a mess like your mother. I don't think she needs to be worried about the water in lungs, but propylene glycol-pg is a known respiratory irritant. The jury is still out in regards to how much I think this may be causing me problems. My asthma/allergy specialist told me some time ago that it didn't matter what caused it, just needed to know when I was headed for trouble and get started on therapy for it. I do like to alleviate as many issues as I can though. I do feel that for me e-liquid with mainly pg in it may be causing me more breathing problems. We are all different, different medical issues, different meds etc. Vaping is still better then smoking.

May your mother have an easy transition to vaping. After trying everything other than Chantix since 1997 to quit, I am amazed yet that I had my last cigarette a week after I received my kit and that will be 6 months the lst.

I have COPD, I presume that is the same thing, her health will improve immediately. I no longer wheeze, cough or run out of air easily. I very seldom use my inhaler anymore either. I've been vaping 18 months but my breathing began to improve immediately. Get her an Echo and it will last her all day without fussing with anything. You can get a 1300 kit with six 3 ml cartos for 45.00 from D and B Gold in the suppliers forum. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...old-has-echo-e-cartomizers-7.html#post3514317

Interesting that you said that. After my mom stopped the prefilled carts because she said they were harsh (all PG) I got her VG juice because I thought it might be better for her. She seemed to have more issues with VG. I was wondering if it was because it's 'heavier' in her lungs. I've read about a couple people mentioning a heavy feeling in the Health section with VG juice. She seems fine now with BWB juice which I believe is 80pg/20vg.

It is very individual, you're right! You have to experiment I guess. Even then, you don't really know positively.

Glad to hear you're doing so well and congrats on the 6 months! That's about how long it's been for me too!

My mom has improved tremendously! She's off one inhaler and off one of her bp medications.

My mom also has COPD and Emphysema. She has smoked for 60+ years. She started vaping with me 1 year ago and lasted maybe 5-6 months. Sadly she is back on the cigs :-( I tried everything. I filled her cartos, got her supplies, etc. I am not trying to discourage you at all but they do have to want to quit or it may all be in vein. I wish you the very best of luck and commend you on your efforts :)

I'm sorry it didn't work out for you Mom. I have to keep my Mom charged, cartos filled, etc. She gets very frustrated.

You are right they have to want to quit. I too was diagnosed with moderate to severe emphysema and I would think she would really like to quit but was frustrated with e-cig hassle. If she ever decides to try again get her an echo 1300 automatic with the 3ml cartos so she doesn't have to mess with changing batteries or refilling all the time. Us older people want it to be as convienent as a cigarette was. Good luck to her I hope she tries again because the next step will be oxygen and that is a lot bigger pain than vaping.

I actually prefilled about a dozen cartos at a time for her. I got her a Buzz because I thought that she needed more TH. Currently she has a Bloog but just will not get back into the right frame of mind. So much of the addiction is the habit of smoking. She missed things like flicking her ashes so we put her ecig in an ashtray and let her flick lol I am still hopefull but truly I think she just does not want to give up her old friend of 62 years :-( Her breathing was SO much better when she was vaping and now it is horrible :-( If I thought that there was anything at all that I could do to get her back to vaping I would do it in a heart beat. Thanks for all of the replies and did not mean to hijack the thread lol

BTW - When she had the Buzz I had tons of batteries that I would charge for her too. She really had to put minimal effort into it.

dog, what you're doing is a great thing. I'm trying to help my mom also who has all the above mentioned smoking related issues. Like Swedishfish I have to keep mom charged and filled as she won't take a sec to "fiddle" w/the ego that it would take to open a new pack of smokes.
My mom likes the ego-t because: there's no hidden might taste burnt factor. She can see how much e-liquid is left and they're very easy for her to change, with no topping off required. Shaky hands and bad eyesight blew that with cartos. We've been lucky with our as far as mechanical problems go as the only real downside is lack of flavor. There are some great tobacco flavors out there, (my mom uses Special K from KBV as it's a sweet tobacco) but I do think finding a coffee or something like that that she might enjoy would be a good idea.
Good luck and congrats on your quitting!!
