Hello everyone! I've been a smoker for about 10 years now and have recently made a conscious decision to try to lead a healthier lifestyle. A work related forum I read directed me here to get more information on e-cigs and basically it's sensory overload trying to make heads or tails of all this information. Can someone explain to me in layman's terms what all the different jargon means and what I'll need to get started trying to kick the habit? I was directed to cignot.com, but it may as well be written in ancient hieroglyphics. Basically, enlighten me please. :p

What are the pros and cons for atomizers vs cartomizers?
First let’s look at the different delivery systems that will hold and vaporize the juice:
Different delivery systems:- note bolded Atty, Carto, etc is the abbreviated form
Atomizer/ Atty- an element on to which 3-4 drops of juice is dripped- usually used for testing new juices because Attys are easy to clean. There are some diehard Atty users because it’s the best vape possible but very time consuming.

Cartridge/ Cart- a container with sponge (filled with juice) that is used with the Atty- juice drips on to Atty from filled cart and is vaporized- older outdated first “tank” system and prone to leaks unless the user is willing to buy extra seals and “fiddle” with them.

Cartomizer/ Carto- metal tube with stuffing and element. Holds anywhere form 1- 4 ml of juice. Carto is fully saturated and must be occasionally refilled when juice runs out. My Cartos last 1-2 weeks. Best Cartomizer I’ve found is the Smok Tech XL 1.7 single coil. Boge 2.0 ohm cartos will give a cooler vape. Always use single coil cartos with 3.3- 3.7 PVs for the best vape.

Carto+Tank- a Carto with a hole punched in it. Carto is than placed in a glass, metal or plastic tank which is filled with juice- juice saturates Carto by way of hole in Carto. My Cartos with a tank last, before tight draw occurs: light juices- 80-90 ml. dark juices- 50-60 ml.

Clearomizer/ Clearo (includes the Stardust Clearo and the Vivi Nova Tank)- a plastic or metal tank with a wick and element. Contains NO stuffing. The rebuildable clearos come with heads (coil+ wick) that can be cheaply and easily replaced. When the head burns out simply unscrew the old head out and screw in new head- takes 10 secs. My Vivi Nova heads are lasting about 4 weeks BUT I wash the heads every few days. I've found the Vivi Nova to give the best draw.

When I first began vaping I used Boge 2.0 ohm single coil cartos (1 ml). After 1 month I switched to Smok Tech XL 1.7 single coil cartos (1.8 ml). Next I used a carto+and tank (3ml) setup. When the cracking and wicking issues were resolved I got into Startdusts (1.6 ml). I now use the Mini Vivi Nova rebuildables as I feel they give a better raw and are far superior in quality.(2 ml).

Atomizers are in my opinion for dripping (put a few drops in, and vape a bit, then repeat.) Cartomizers allow you to fill them up with more juice cause they have a polyfill in them that absorbs the juice into it. For the easiest way a cleomizer,(tank) will allow you to fill it up with very little mess. I use the vivi nova's both mini and larger one. I like them enough that I have 9 all together. The only time I use an atty is when I'm trying out different flavors. For the carto's I only use them in a carto/tank. Which is a whole different thing than you need right now.

I started with cartomizers a combined atty and fiberfill metal screw on piece that you continually fill with juice. You have to keep the fiberfill wet and if you keep vaping it once dry it will burn and taste horrible. Then they are gonners. Personally I don't like them but lots do. I prefer the clearomizers of which there are many. They have rebuildable heads inside that screw on and off which is the only part you have to continually replace at about 2.50. They are also clear so you can see how much juice you have left. Atomizers alone are used for dripping which some say gives you the best flavor, you drip several drops of juice in and vape so many times then repeat. I don't have the patience.

Batteries come in 808 or 510 threading. 510 is pretty much the standard. You can order supplies from just about anywhere and take advantage of specials or sales. With 808 you are fairly limited by certain suppliers who carry it. Mah is something you want to check out on all batts, 100 mah equals about 1 hour of usage. 650 mah would be the least I would look for -usually more. Cig alikes are the ones that look like cigarettes, they usually have a little light on the end and very poor battery life.

Welcome ! I'm new to it myself into my 4th week now and fully appreciate the confusion , been there done that ! I was a 30 a day man and would not touch a real cig now ! My confusion in the first week or so is trying to get the best setup available straight of the bat, i don't think this is possible as everyone is different. I think the only real way to do it is choose a starter kit and go for it, you will probably change at some point. Every person is different. Both myself and my wife gave up at the same time, she is happy with the 'cig u like' style of battery and using cartos , although i have to fill them ! cartos work great and are easy to use / refill plus being reasonably cheap.

I myself got sick of the battery running out too quickly so moved to an evo style manual battery (808 style not 510 so not ideal). Took a bit to get used to a manual battery at first but stuck with cartos. Just got my first set of clearomisers a couple of days ago and am total converted. I don't seem to get the same from a carto anymore :(.

Same with flavours the wife still wants tobacco flavours and i can not stand them i like sweet flavours now.

Its not an exact science i suppose and part of the enjoyment is finding something you like. Hope it all works out for you.

This is one of the kits I started with. It's not fancy or anything but has really good battery life and got some really good reviews. Something like this and the vivi nova mini tank or something to put your juice in is a inexpensive start. You can upgrade from there.(The cartos that came with the kit were ok but what I really wanted. It would get you started.)

I have that kit too and have been using it since last feb with no problems. Can't beat the price for a good all day pv. I use the vivi nova mega with the 1.8ohm head on that one, and the 2.4 ohm on the twist. It's a little bigger than the mini, but works better and that's JMHO. Any newbies be aware Hoosier has free shipping over 55.00 and %5 discount code is 5OFF. Here is new V2 KGO comes with clearomizers.

I've only been vaping for about two months but I started with an 808 type with cartridges and very quickly moved up to using an ego with clearomizers. IMO it gives a much better hit with more flavor. I am now getting into DIY juices and am awaiting my first atty. BTW I completely stopped smoking within a week. Good luck.
