Sorry to say this but I must.
The only way any personal vaporizer will work for you to quit cigarettes is IF "You" are ready to give them up.

This is simply not the least little bit true for many people. There is no shortage of accidental quitters on ECF. I count myself as one of them.

I had no intention of quitting cigarettes but never had another after my first vape. I preferred the taste of vaping far more than smoking and never had any cravings despite having smoked 2 1/2 packs a day. However, some people who smoked much less than me have had to struggle mightily for months to switch from smoking to vaping even though they desperately want to do so.

My heart goes out to those who have such a tough go of making a full transition to vaping. I hope we can all see our way clear to support their efforts rather than scolding them for what well may be a totally erroneous perception that they lack motivation

So it is your Opinion that someone that smokes and has no desire, not one thought, of quitting cigarettes just on a whim tried an e-Cig and never smoked again. I don't think so.

Why would they even try a vaporizer? For what purpose?

So for yourself why did you even try vaping? For what purpose did you take that first vape?

So please be honest with us and most importantly with yourself.

Well so far so good. Loving the taste of my ecig and the cigalike is working great for taking to work with me.

Haven't has a cigarette or even wanted one since the day I fired this thing up.

Hello Tindomul, I'm glad to hear you are doing great. There are many flavors out there that I haven't tried, but the best tobacco flavor I've found so far is "Red", from V2cigs. I like to mix mine with some coffee & café mocha.
I used to smoke an analog once in a while just for the heck of it even though I had no urge to. I haven't smoked one for about a month now and don't even want to.
So stick with it and keep on vaping!:rickroll:

I'm pretty sure I've read a few stories like that here on ecf;
people try out a cigalike or their buddies dripper and end up switching from cigs to vape.
There's always the cost incentive

I kind of agree with Peraspera. Dr. Polosa did a study where he specifically recruited smokers who were not interested in quitting, and they had a decent quit rate, which was sort of astonishing. It was a small study, but impressive nonetheless.

Personally, I had the desire to quit smoking, but I had given up trying to quit. I had tried so many times and failed that I made a conscious decision to never try again. I was resigned to smoking until I died. Now, that's not to say I didn't want to quit. I did, but was not willing to try again, so perhaps a little different from your scenario.

A neighbor kept insisting that I try these new ecigs. I brushed it off again and again. I knew it wouldn't work and I would have wasted my money, again. I finally got one to shut her up. I was still extremely skeptical, and thought at the best I might be able to cut down a little, but I really did think it was a gimmick and wouldn't work at all. I was shocked that I was able to switch completely within two days.

Now, the reason I don't like the statement, "it won't work if you don't REALLY want to quit" is that is what I heard repeatedly when I was trying to quit with other methods. That is what 'they' always say, with the implication (or even stated outright) that when you fail it was because you didn't want it enough. It may well be true that I wasn't able to quit with patches, gum, Wellbutrin, and cold turkey because I 'didn't want it enough'. I mean, it has to be true right, if I'd wanted it enough I would have had the will power to do it. On the other hand, there were many times when I tried these other methods that I was in an extremely optimistic state of mind. I was confident, I was determined. This was going to be the time that I quit. I never did. When I tried ecigs I was in no such state of mind. I knew this was not going to work. I knew I would fail again. Yet, it did. Did I WANT it more at that point? I don't think so. It was just much much more effective than any other method I had previously tried.

This will be my second time trying to quit smoking cigarettes by going the electronic route. My first attempt started well and I was enjoying electronic cigarettes until my blu starter pack basically stopped working after 3 weeks of use. Out of frustration and disappointment, feeling like I got suckered into spending money on a "fad" I figured e-cigs weren't my thing went back to regular cigarettes.

Haven't read the whole thread, but first congratulations and about spending money etc: It's worth every misspend penny to save your health :) Also It's almost always cheaper! If you smoke a pack a day, you spend something like at least $120 a month! More than enough money to buy shiny new toys instead of ashtrays full of dirt.

I'd recommend buying the best tank instead of a starter kit. Either 2 Aspire Nautilus tanks or 2 Aerotank Mega's from Kanger, plus a nice regulated battery. A box mod like the MVP2 from Innokit is a great starter kit, box mods might look weird in the beginning but they are actually FAR SMALLER and more practical than they look on pictures. The best thing is that they won't roll around or topple over on your desk.

I'd recommend fruity flavors like apple, vanilla, hazelnut or RY4 (a tasty "tobacco" style flavor). Some tobacco flavors are really weird, and non really taste like cigarette. But you'll have to find out what flavors your like yourself.

Spazmelda I have the same story. I tried all the same methods and more. Nothing worked. I decided I was just a smoker. A few of our friends started vaping and never had another cigarette. All long time smokers and they just quit! Then another friend, and then another. They all made it look so good! I decided to jump on. I just knew it wouldn't work for me, but hey even if it cut my cigarettes back some that would be a plus. It was definitely not "I'm trying to quit", but more "everybody else is doing it". Best thing I've ever followed my friends into by far. Now I have helped two others make the switch and I'm planning on more!

You definitely hit on four universal flavor variants dj. I really love many varieties of bourbon tobacco's (anything resembling premium Jack Dan) and Ginger's (subtle hazelnut) RY4 is one of the cleanest dense boutique or batched (not concentrate) flavors I've tried.

    Good luck all.

I got curious and tried this menthol x sample they sent this morning. I never liked menthol cigarettes very much, but damn this stuff is good.

Welcome! I tried cigalikes a few years ago, and wasn't as pleased with the results as you were with your Blus. I finally got a fixed voltage kit (from same place I'd gotten my cigalikes) and things started getting better. I was a menthol smoker, but I've found I'm not as crazy about tobacco-flavored juices as I am about things like Peanut Butter Cup, Honeydew, Strawberry Shake, Coffee Cake, etc. I do have some straight menthol that I'll drop into a fruit-filled tank to give it the cooling sensation that I like about my menthol cigs.

Long-winded reply shorter - find small batches to start with, and then let the bottles get bigger as you progress. A lot of folks DIY - I'm not there (yet?), but I have upgraded my gear to appease my hobby needs and keep me away from smokes.

Congrats on your perseverance. It only gets better from here :)

I had not been successful in cutting down nor quitting previously but wasn't particularly motivated to do so because I very much enjoyed smoking. I ordered my first kit on impulse, a cig-alike, right after seeing an e-cig commercial. I expected that I would probably prefer smoking to vaping but was willing to give vaping a casual shot to see if I could save a little money.

I simply vastly preferred the taste and experience of vaping to that of cigarettes from my first puff. I had a good strategy in place to keep my nic levels from crashing so the transition was totally painless. I did order better gear within a week of starting vaping because the incessant battery charging drove me nuts, not because I was dissatisfied with any other aspects of my vaping experience.

I am far from being unique in being an accidental quitter. It has been discussed previously on ECF. The ECLAT study, using obsolete cig-alikes, showed that 4% of people using 0 nic quit smoking after a year and 12% reduced amount smoked by 50%. None of the people in the study wanted to quit smoking.

Since no one lives inside anyone else's head it is impossible to know the level of anyone else's motivation. Even if we did there is zero evidence that trying to shame or lecture someone on their lack of motivation is helpful.

I smoked a pack a day for 45 years. I haven't smoked a single cigarette in 2.5 years and have no desire to do so. For me, quitting was effortless, and I was as addicted as they come. The cig-a-likes weren't effective for me, nor were any of the other many methods I tried. It was only by using a proper mod and tank that I was able to quit.

Unlike the majority here, I actually prefer tobacco flavored juice and have tried many of them. My favorite is 24 mg/ml PG Red Luck from MyFreedomSmokes. A bonus is that the exhaled vapor from this product has practically no odor, so there are no scents in the air to annoy other people.

In my basement garage I have an ashtray filled with old butts and ashes. It's been there ever since I quit smoking. I see it often and I leave it there for a reason: The sight of it reminds me of what a disgusting habit I had and how unthinkable it would be to ever start up again. (But I do think I'll cover it with plastic wrap because it smells awful if you happen to get a whiff.)

Here's a way to give yourself a little positive reinforcement (as if your vastly improved breathing capacity and reduced risk of disease won't be enough!): Put a jar on your dresser. For every day you don't smoke drop in five bucks (or whatever other sum you were spending every day on analog cigs). In a month you'll have $150 and in a year $1,825. There's a constant tangible reminder of your success sitting right on you dresser! Use some of the money to buy juice and gear, send some money to CASAA and spend the rest on something you'll really enjoy.

I wish you the very best of luck! Don't hesitate to ask questions and please keep us posted.

My point was somewhere in these peoples minds is "I Want, I would like, to quit smoking so why not try a e-Cig".

Deep down they wanted to quit smoking. Otherwise there is no good reason to try vaping. Especially with the bad press that goes around about it.

Yes if some of their friends are vaping and have put down cigarettes they look at that and say, think, to them selves "Maybe this will work for me".

It is my opinion that someone with absolutely no desire to quit smoking will try vaping and even if they did they will continue to smoke.
