Trying to wrap my mind around what I need to look for when purchasing replacement parts and it's just not working. About a month ago I picked up a pair of "store brand" 510 starter kits figuring that the low price tag would make eatting a loss fairly painless. I'm completely satisfied with the product I have... however, when I went back to the site looking to snake up a few more batteries and atomizers I noticed it was all virtually out of stock. Chances are the store will restock before I actually need to buy parts but it did give me a good picture of how little I know about vaping. So here I am...

1. 180mAh batteries - Is this the standard plain jane 510 battery? I see the word standard printed on virtually every battery add I've seen but I've seen numbers that range from 150mAh to 180mAh when I took a closer look.

2. Volts - I've seen mentioned everything from 3.7v to 6v, how can I tell the voltage to look for when shopping around?

3. Atomizers - chances are I just want standard 510 atomizers, but is standard actually standard? If I go out and buy a Geniune Joye 510 atty is it the same as a 510/eGo replacement atty. Is the threading the same or do I need to pick up a battery adapter?

4. Ohms - LR is in the 1.5 ball park, HV is 4.2ish... what is standard and when / why would I want to swap to LR or HV ?

I, of course, appretiate any and all feedback but please keep it simple stupid for me. A few months ago you could hand me wall of abreviations and numbers in excel format without headers and I'd be able to follow along without skipping a beat... these days thats just not the case

Kakamouth,

you want standard 510 batteries .. auto ones are 180mAh and manual are 150mAh .. there are also Mega 510 batteries out there, which I believe are 280 mAh, but I don't know if you need a mega charger for these or can use the regular charger. For now, just get regular 510 from any supplier. I suggest manual batteries because they give you a longer pull .. auto batts have a cut off time that doesn't allow you to take a full drag, so to speak.

You want regular atomizers. LR is for higher voltage pvs .. mostly mods run 3.7 and higher (kr808d is a 3.7 also) For your 510, which is roughly 3.2v .. you want to stick to regular atomizers and cartomizers. I haven't noticed a different in Joye brand atty's and generic brands, but many people insist there is one. I've used both, both work equally well for me and my family of vapers.

I'm sure someone else can explain more in detail about LR .. I haven't used them.

Peace,
cleo

Hi and welcome to ECF.

1. 180mah is the standard size plain jane 510. Then there's the Mega @ 280mah, the eGo @ 650mah, Riva @ 750, Mega eGo & XL @ 900 & 1000mah, etc. They're all 510 threadings so they'll work with the same atomizers.

2. The standard 510 runs @ 3.2v. Some of the larger batt's run up to 3.7. Anything higher is usually a mod of some sort.

3. The standard atomizers run around 2.8 to 3.2 ohms. The lower the resistance rating the quicker it heats up and the more heat it produces. More heat = more vapor.

4. Stick with that for a standard 510 or a Mega 280mah. If you use LR's on them it's likely to kill them because they weren't designed to handle the electrical load imposed by them. If you have an eGo or Riva you can safely use LR's in the 2.0 to 1.7 ohm range. You'd only want to use HV atty's if you go up to 5 volts or more.

I'd have to agree with everyone else. Use a standard 510 atty (by standard I mean 2.5 to 3.2 ohms) or cartomizer on your 510 models. Anything lower than 2.5 ohms will drain the battery too fast, and likely won't work well with a 180mAH 510 battery. The closer you get to 2.5 ohms the warmer the vape will be and the more vapor it'll produce. Also the lower you go on ohms means the higher the draw on the battery which means the battery won't last as long. As far as compatibility, any '510' accessory will work as long as you stay with the regular cartomizers and atomizers.

mAh stands for milliamp hours, it has to do with how long the battery lasts before needing recharging, and how many times it can be recharged. the larger the number, the longer lasting the battery. In terms of compatibility the threading is what is important. batteries with 510 threads will be compatible with attys and cartos that have 510 threads.

2. Volts - I've seen mentioned everything from 3.7v to 6v, how can I tell the voltage to look for when shopping around?

most standard 510s are 3.2 volts under load, are as egos and Rivas. To get get above 3.7 volts you'd need to get a mod. Here's a nice thread about voltages http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/joye-510/65055-battery-voltages-surprise.html

3. Atomizers - chances are I just want standard 510 atomizers, but is standard actually standard? If I go out and buy a Geniune Joye 510 atty is it the same as a 510/eGo replacement atty. Is the threading the same or do I need to pick up a battery adapter?

510 threaded attys are compatible with 510 threaded batteries

the choice about atty resistance is about the power delivered. Others can say this better and with more precision, but.... What we're really interested in when vaping is what is the sweet spot in terms of power (watts) to vaporize the e-liquid. One way to get more is to increase the voltage, the other is to decrease the resistance (ohm;s law, V=IR). So a low resistance atty on a 3.2 battery can give equivalent power to a higher resistance atty on a higher voltage battery. Here's a link to a chart showing the relationship http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...174302-voltage-resistance-chart-madvapes.html the sweet spot may vary depending on the liquid

510
standard 180mah
mega xl 280mah (1-inch longer and 60% more battery life)
The above can use standard resistance 510 attys and cartos and standard resistance 306 attys
Low resistance attys and cartos can kill these batteries - maybe not immediately but will

Riva/Ego 510 and other fat-battery 510 models
650mah+
can use both standard and low resistance attys and cartos

Where in the world do ya'll get your atty's? Those ohms aren't correct lmao
Standard true Joye atty's usually come in between 2.2-2.4
They work just fine on the standard 510 180mah batt's with no issue.

I have 2400 mah rechargeable batt, and i have been using a lr 510 atty. The taste is burnt and the throat hit too strong(have RESEARCHED how to clean attys and have reasonably clean ones)Could it be i should use a standard 510--wouldnt this give me less of a th but still warm vapour?

MAH is a desigation of the life of the charge not the voltage. Battery voltage would be more useful to know. OTOH if you think the hit using an LR atty is too hot, why not try a regular atty?

I use 3.7 volt 18650 or 14500 batteries with standard 2.4 ohm 510 atomizers.
I don't like LR atomizers because I like to take long drags and they make my juice taste kind of burnt.

If you mean standard 510 atty then yes, that should work better for you. In the meantime, try holding the button for two seconds or so on a five second draw and see if that works. I'm using a standard atty (2.4 ohm) with a 5V PT. I tend to vape three or four puffs in a row then put it down for a few seconds. All puffs are long slow draws of about five seconds. On the first puff I'll hit the button for about two seconds and on the next two or three puffs, about one second on the button for each and the vape is plenty warm and flavored to suit me. It does cut down on visible vapor and I'm sure it wouldn't suit a lot of folks, but we're all different and it might suit you just fine.

And there in lies allot of my confusion. When reviewing specs on various 510 parts I've seen a fairly large range in differances between what one site calls standard and it's competitors. Which really wouldn't have been an issue but it seems like the tolerances for vaping are all fairly tight... I don't want to waste money burning out atty's / batteries / or anything else for that matter.

And thank you all again for the feedback.
