I was proof reading a post I made and noticed that my little tracker gizmo thing in my sig said I'd made it to two months.

Two whole months cigarette free, ashtray free, and best of all (mostly) guilt free!

Not only has it not been miserably emotionally traumatic for myself, my family and my friends, it's been two months of fun, feeling good both mentally and physically, exploration, experimentation, and best of all, shopping.

It's been a blast to quit this time, after so many failures before, and I have you all to thank for it. ECF has to be the luckiest find I ever made. Without the wealth of information and education I found here, I honestly don't think I could have made it- there's no way I could've figured it all out for myself. The community here is just fantastic- empathetic, funny, well informed, helpful and big hearted, I could not wish for a better support group.

So anyway, thanks, ECF, for being the teacher who showed up when I was (finally) ready to learn. I've got miles and miles to go, and I'm glad to be in such good company for the journey.

Big congrats to you ohai!!! That's an important milestone, and the fact that you only noticed it when you looked at your tracker suggests to me that you're doing very very well with vaping! I'm sure everyone here is happy to have helped, but don't sell your own contributions to ECF short in the process -- I don't think I've laughed so hard at anything on ECF as I did when I saw the photo you posted on the "101 Ways how to pick up chicks with ecig" thread! Definitely an ECF all-time classic in my book, and it certainly made my day!!! :toast:

Aw, thanks, Tezcat! That's an inspirational thread to be sure, lololol.

By the way, your user name is awesome, you've named yourself after one of my favorite deities. I assume your Smoking Mirror is now a Vaping Mirror?

Looking back at that thread, you pretty much shut it down -- nobody was gonna top that one!

That's awesome that you know the Smoking Mirror!!! You're the first person who has said anything, and likely the last :) He's my favorite too -- I mean come on, mirror for a foot? How cool is that?! I had actually considered finding a way to change "Smoking" into "Vaping," but couldn't find a suitable substitution in Nahuatl. Some things just don't translate well, I guess.

So is it safe to assume that you're a fan of a certain HBO series that airs on Sunday nights, based on your membership status above your avatar? :2cool:

Friend request coming your way!

The trickster gods are the best- they just flat out have better stories to tell, hands (and feet) down.

I don't have my English to Nahuatl dictionary handy (heh), but it seems like "smoking" and "vaporizing" might have been too similar in concept to have had distinct words for each without modifiers. I'm horrible with languages, but that would be my guess.

Thanks! :)

Game of Thrones is probably more addictive to me than nicotine right now, lol, but it's also a ref. to my bearded dragons, Mojo and Callisto.

Wow, ohai, I've been trying to teach myself Nahuatl for almost two years now, and you already seem to have a pretty good grasp of the fundamentals! Upon giving it more thought, vapor and smoke are closely related in Mesoamerican and Puebloan thought. For instance, burning incense in mountain-shaped censers was intended to evoke and encourage the formation of rain clouds over mountains, and in the Southwest, smoking pipes with cloud designs on them has a similar rain-bringing function. For all I know, there may not have even been separate words for "smoke" and "vapor." Isn't it great when all of your interests come together?

Cool bearded dragons!!! That's an awesome pet! It must be a lot of fun having them around. They're pretty mild-mannered critters, right? If you'll permit me to try and bring this around full-circle, I'm actually trying to publish a paper that investigates the relationship between reptiles and rain-bringing in ancient Mesoamerica. An example:

Chalcatzingo Monument 140001.jpg

This is an Olmec (500 BC or so) example of a reptile exhaling vapor (or maybe smoke :)) that forms a cloud that is in turn dripping 'i'-shaped rain drops. The pose is even similar to Mojo's! The scroll-shaped symbol that the reptile is on top of is a glyph that the Maya later used to mean "cloud" (muyal). There are numerous examples of this concept. I never imagined I'd be talking about this stuff on ECF, but thanks for the opportunity! It's kind of related to vaping, right?

Yeah, that "Game of Thrones" is seriously addicting. I haven't read the books, so I can only imagine what types of crazy bombshells they're going to drop on us in the next couple of episodes. Fortunately with vaping, we can enjoy both vices at the same time! I'm glad it only comes on once a week because otherwise, between that and ECF, I'd never get anything done!

Lol, oh no, you're giving me far too much credit. I love exploring etymology- it's a long time fascination of mine, it's just amazing how you can track a people's history through the evolution of their language, but I'm pretty hopeless with learning the languages themselves. I've read about it, but I guarantee you that you know far more Nahuatl than I do if you're actually learning it.

Totally agree, I wouldn't think there would've been much reason to differentiate.

The sweetest reptile alive, imo. They'll even snuggle, petting themselves by rubbing their lil faces up against you, and they will lick you like a friendly puppy (only without the drooling and jumping all over you part). Ms. Mojo even has a favorite stuffed animal. (It's an elephant.) Some people will tell you they are doing it because they are itchy, using you to scratch themselves, but if that were it, they'd only do it when they are shedding, and they prefer rough surfaces for that, so I maintain my opinion that they are, in fact, snuggling. They can also recognize different family members, and they come right to your hand when you go to get them out of the tank. Mojo will look at you expectantly when you say her name, too, as if she's saying "What?"

That is such a great image!!

This is interesting, because for beardies and other desert reptiles, one of the purposes of that particular pose is to collect humidity/morning dew/rainwater on the broad back of the lizards head. Once a droplet collects there, the animal will dip his head and let it roll down his nose so he can lick it off. You can often see lizards behaving this way before a storm; having sensed the increasing humidity, they're getting ready for the incoming drink of water, so it might have seemed to people observing this behavior as the catalyst as opposed to just a predictor of an oncoming storm.

Um... yes. Yes it is. :D

And just so you know, I'm vaping Ms. T's Dill Pickle right now, and it is a-freaking-mazing. Total madness and pure genius at the same time.

I've only just started reading the books, other stuff just keeps coming up relentlessly, so I haven't gotten very far. I'm only a few chapters into the second book, but I can tell you they are wonderful so far.

I think I've met my doppelganger! I really enjoy etymology for the exact same reason. You can almost tell who came in contact with whom and when you start to investigate word origins. Especially in the case of English -- a total hodge-podge of a language. I'm a total language nut.

Get outta here!! Your beardies sound awesome! I can't believe they're that affectionate! Sounds like a really incredible pet. We humans sure seem to think that mammals have the market cornered on emotion and intelligence, but I'm constantly surprised by reptiles and birds (and octopus for that matter too). That's totally fascinating and it must be great having them around. I can't believe Mojo even has a stuffed animal! :)

And just so you know, I'm vaping Ms. T's Dill Pickle right now, and it is a-freaking-mazing. Total madness and pure genius at the same time.

Dill Pickle juice?! :?: You're blowin' my mind here. Sounds like it could strip the paint off your PV if you're not careful! I'm mostly a Backwoods Brew and Alien Visions (and a few others) kinda guy and I love my tobacco vapes, but I may have to look into this Ms. T's you speak of. It could be just crazy enough to work.... What other wacky flavors have you tried that have flown past my radar?

I've only just started reading the books, other stuff just keeps coming up relentlessly, so I haven't gotten very far. I'm only a few chapters into the second book, but I can tell you they are wonderful so far.

Last Sunday night? Best episode ever or what? Yeah, I would love to pick up the books at some point, but unfortunately it's so seldom that I actually get to read fiction these days, so I feel your pain. I wouldn't want to read ahead of the show anyway -- that would probably take a lot of the fun out of it. And of course we all know that the book is almost always better than the movie version (or TV in this case), except in rare cases. Pretty much anything by Stanley Kubrick, and No Country for Old Men were about as good as the books IMO (Kubrick movies might even be better), but those are the only examples that come to mind for me.

This is interesting, because for beardies and other desert reptiles, one of the purposes of that particular pose is to collect humidity/morning dew/rainwater on the broad back of the lizards head. This is pure brilliance here. I would love to talk more about this with you but I'll PM you in the near future so as not to clog up another ECF thread with too much non-vape-related chit-chat. Although, I think we can safely argue that vaping has been around since at least 500 BC now! Thanks for your insights! :toast:
