Two questions from a nob. Hybrid between the Starduct and a carty. And that little sponge cap.

I have a stardust and a Catheterize with a big reservoir that you can take apart. I think I like the wick system on my Clearmerizer/starduct (if that is the right term) but I like the idea of being able to take the Carty apart and change the atty. Is there a hybrid that is somewhere in between them?

Also on my Carty's big and small there is this little sponge cap. I assumed you were suppose to take it out and toss it. Did I do right? There were no instructions.
I'm a nob/FNG and I believe that the stupid question is the one you don't ask.
Thanks in advance.

Hey, Dallas!! Right on!!

".....I believe that the stupid question is the one you don't ask......" You got that right :thumb:

You might start looking at a rebuildable tank atomizer.

This is like what you have but a lil more of the tank style and some folks have begun to rebuild these coils instead of just replacing the heads:

GotVapes VISION ViVi NOVA™ 3.5ml V2.5 REBUILDABLE TANK [gv-VIVINOVA-TANKV2.5] - $12.95 : GotVapes.com, E-cigarette Supplies - Atomizers Cartomizers Mods Juice and more

Tho not for the faint of heart the following are more of a true rebuildable. There is some learning curve involved but I think they are worth it:

SMOKtech GotVapes Hyper SRT Rebuildable Tank Atomizer 4.0ml [gv-SMOKtechHyperSRT] - $15.95 : GotVapes.com, E-cigarette Supplies - Atomizers Cartomizers Mods Juice and more

MOV Genesis Style Rebuildable Atomizer Tank (similar toa "DiD" atomizer)

There are a lot of way more expensive tank rebuildables (and better quality) like the DiD, bliSS, Cobra, G-Tank, Line SS, Steam Machine, Penelope........... but the ones linked above can work well and are cheap enough to learn and get started on if interested.

Hope this helps, see you on the other side.....

Great info. I check them all out and love them. The DIY in my loves the Genesis. I use to be an Electronics Tech early in life so Love that but I have a Provari an I'll wait until I get my next mod. I love that concept but apparantly Provari's don't.
I think I'll go with the VV fist I love the design and the fact they give you 3 dif resistance attys.
Great info. I really like the brain trust on here. With this many members you get a wide variety of info and different points of view. Which is good.
Thanks a lot good job.

This really is an awesome forum, tons of really good people and good information, kinda surprising and amazing really...

Dunno if you found a local shop yet but these guys are really really cool and all about customer service all the way, great juices BTW and they let you taste as much as you want:

What does the Provari not like??? My Provari works awesome with every atomizer I've ever put on em including all my rebuildables(all I use now anyways;) )

Some eye-candy:

G-tank coil and wick on my Provari:

G-tank with the steel tank on it:

G-tank clear tank:

and then the bliSS, awesome genesis style:

If you are even remotely a "tinker-er" at all then rebuildables are actually kinda fun!!!

The vision clearomizer/stardust V3 tanks have replaceable insides.

Spraintz forgot to mention the Zenesis and iHybrid rebuildables. iHybrid is, at the moment, solely a complete unit, he has plans to make an adapter so it works as an atty tank. Zenesis has the Z-atty, Z-Atty-pro specifically designed for the Provari. Haunt Provape's Facebook page to find out when those will be available, should be soon.

The video on the site stated that The provari was too sensitive and would get errors. That you had to be more careful wrapping the wire or it would detect a shot. Just what the video said. I am still interested I have all the tools plus my magnifier (OLD EYES) so I can do the job. But I will just wait a while. I have to remind myself I'm still a nob. With too much spare time on his hands. Retired.
But the info was great. Glad to know it works for you. It may be that some folks were less careful and had bad results.

Ah, I see what ya mean steved.

Well, in a word, yes, the Provari is rather sensitive. But here's the thing, I feel that that sensitivity, in regards to using a rebuildable, is a very good thing. Think about it like this, would you rather have a mod that is less sensitive to an intermittent short that that could fry yer coil and atomizer, possibly create a hard short, damage the electronics of the device or maybe even damage or explode a battery? Or, would you rather have a device that absolutely lets you know when a coil is not firing correctly and gives an error to save itself?

Most of the "sensitivity" and error issues that many get are primarily due to inconsistent oxidizing and preparation of a stainless steel mesh wick and coil. If you understand what a short actually is and understand what is required to keep a SS wick from shortiing on the coil or the atomizer body(....it's the ground) then one can avoid the seemingly "over-sensitive" errors that show up. Another way to look at it is that they aren't so much errors as a warning about what you did wrong. I use a multimeter to check my coils before I pout em on, not everybody does and the Provari at least gives you some information to diagnose even if it is in the form of an error. A rebuidable atomizer is only as good as the coil and wick that the end-user put in it.

I studied it, found out where the best chance for shorts were on all my rebuildables and eliminated them is my coil-making process (that's a whole 'nother talk show ;) ) and now I have flawless, non-shorting always stable firing coils every time.

That being said, there are some limitations as referenced by Fisty. Using too low a resistance on yer atomizer with too high a voltage will cause the Provari to exceed it's current limit of 3.5amps (on the V2) and let you know about it. This doesn't mean you can't use a low resistance atomizer it just means that you can only take it so high on the voltage. I tend to build coils around the 2-2.5 ohm and this allows me to use the bulk of the voltage range.

There are some people on here that just need to vape at super high wattage upwards to 15watts  .........I don't even understand how a set of longs could even handle that......and I've been vaping for 3 years.

Have fun man.

I like to run my z atty pro at 4.5 volts, it has a 6 wrap coil and the stock insulator that all Zenesi come with so all I have to make sure is that it's not touching the bottom of the tank or the top cap. Any minor shorts of the coil on the wick can be taken care of with a little nudging. It's probably the easiest of the rebuildable attys to use.

......dang those are nice atomizers man :thumb: I dodn't know they had an insert (for the tank body I guess?) that's awesome!! might look into one as I hear ProVape is gonna start carrying them....the bliSS will have to do for now;)

On my G-Tank I use PTFE tubing for insulation on the wick at the base, a PTFE insert in the middle and a cotton wrapped SSwick for the coil.........I' can't get that thing to short if I tried ;)
