Two recipes, two very different levels of throat hit: What are your thoughts?

Recipe 1 (10.1% flavor; 50/50 VG/PG)
VG 50%
PG 34.9%
Water 0%
100 Nic 5%
TPA Strawberry 5%
TPA Sweet cream 2.5%
TPA Chocolate 2.5%
TPA Ripe Banana 0.1%

Recipe 2 (4% flavor; 50/50 VG/PG)
VG 50%
PG 41%
Water 0%
100 Nic 5%
TPA Strawberry 3.6%
TPA Ripe Banana 0.4%

Recipe 1 is oh so smooth.
Recipe 2 kicks like a mule (hot, harsh throat hit).

Considering the only difference is the flavoring, my only thought is Recipe 1 just happened to get the right combination/concentration of flavoring that leads to a lower temperature of vaporization, hence the smoother hit. Or, maybe it is the other way around???

Have you observed a similar phenomenom? What do you consider makes the difference in your case or in the example above?

(My observation was made using a 510-T atty, switching back and forth between tanks filled with either recipe.)

My gut tells me the 2 atty tanks are wicking differently.

However, it's possible that the extra flavor in the first recipe "eats" more of the nicotine as the juice oxidizes. Have these juices steeped for any period of time? Please keep in mind that I almost failed 8th Grade Chemistry and have no idea what I'm talking about.

Some flavors produce more of a TH than others do. I have a peach flavor that will put you on your .... if it's too strong.

Heh, yeah I have that one too.

Strawberry is an odd one too. Just a few ticks past "good" and it goes to throat burn on me. While I don't like banana flavoring, of any kind except actual bananas, I have mixed it for others and it does have an effect on TH from their reports.

Please keep in mind that I have mixed Bacon and Ice Cream and thought it was good, so your experience may be different...

My gut tells me the 2 atty tanks are wicking differently.

Indeed, I'm using 2 rigs with the T, not 1, but like I mentioned I have swapped tanks back and forth on the same atty and I reliably get harsh-smooth-harsh-smooth depending on the recipe.

However, it's possible that the extra flavor in the first recipe "eats" more of the nicotine as the juice oxidizes. Have these juices steeped for any period of time?

No steeping, pretty fresh both of them; just stick 'em in scalding hot water for 2-5 min, roll between palms and vape away. I make 5 or 10 ml batches that are pretty much gone in a day or two.

Please keep in mind that I almost failed 8th Grade Chemistry and have no idea what I'm talking about.

First time in a while since I had a good laugh just from reading a forum post!

Yeah could be that, another thought tho are the sweet cream and chocolate maybe vg/natural flavorings?

Combine that with maybe strawberry/banana containing alcohol and that could explain the throat kick, not actualy being 50/50 like u thought.

Just another take on it.

What I was thinking, too, but it's weird the one with more total flavor is the smoother one.

Update (confirm): Just made a fresh batch of Recipe 1 after using Recipe 2 for the better part of today (had run out earlier of Recipe 1; was still experiencing some serious harshness with Recipe 2). After flushing out tank and replacing with fresh batch, I'm back to smooth pulls (same atty). Blows my mind the stark difference. I even went up to 10 mg/ml Nic with this new batch.

Too many variables to pin point the exact cause, but I'm sticking with this recipe, at least for my 510-T. Definitely atty-dependent too as, ironically, it didn't vape well for me with my eGo-T. Go figure!
