typo's noob diy experience

After some debate, I have decided to document my experience in diy e-liquid. I've been vaping for several months (not sure how long to be honest). I started with a pair of 808 cig-a-likes (Halo G6 manual and auto) and pre filled cartos. Then moved to an 808 clearomizer, then an ego, then evods, then iclear16, then a vv/vw apv, then an iclear30, then a protank, then various carto tanks, then a mechanical mod, then an rsst rba and now... diy e-liquid... waiting for a kick too. There were some other tanks/clearomizers in there two, but other than a vivi nova, nothing that I used after the first time.

Now that you have seen my ecig resume, here's where I'm at... diy juice wise...

Last week I ordered supplies for my first go. Here's what I got:

First thing I have to say, the packaging from wizard labs is freaking awesome. So good, its almost annoying. I felt like a kid on Christmas, who's mom decided it would be funny to put a small wrapped box into a slightly bigger wrapped box and then continue it so that you have to unwrap 10 packages to get to the gift. Just cause I pointed out wizard labs' packaging doesn't mean myfreedomsmokes' sucked. It too was good. Another note about wizardlabs, they sent freebies... can't complain about that. If you are wondering, I split the order between the two companies because I wanted them as quick as I could get them. Wizardlabs had a note that said orders containing nicotine would be delayed 3-4 days (or something like that). Freedomsmokes' prices were a little more (larger quantity bottles though). So that's that.

Plan:
I'm going to start with some small 3ml samples. A few flavors I'm going to shoot for are (# of flavors): Peach (1), Vanilla Cupcake (1), Hawaiian Punch (1), Strawberry Gum (2), Grape Gum (2), Strawberry Vanilla Cupcake (2), Mango Mania (3). I'm truly shooting for Grape and Strawberry Bubbalicious. Not that I chew gum often, but grape bubbalicious has been a long time favorite of mine.

FYI, I am using an online calculator.

My two cents...

-That 15mL bottle of sweetener will last you a loooong time.
-If you're making small sample batches, you'll probably need more bottles.
-Cover the printed markings of the syringes with clear nail polish, otherwise they'll wear off after a few uses.
-For me, the pipettes are damn near worthless. I always get the feeling that I waste several drops of precious concentrate that clings to the inside after each use. 1mL syringes are my preferred tool. Regardless, I always appreciate the freebies from Wizard Labs.
-The packaging from Wizard Labs never ceases to amaze me. Whoever that OCD packaging samurai is, I owe him or her a few beers.
-Unless you're averse to Ethyl Maltol, you should order some. Get some Acetyl Pyrazine and Koolada while you're at it.

I use scotch tape or packing tape to cover the markings, I read that when I started a few months ago, and it works well for me.

My freebie was 4ml's of TPA Raspberry, which I hated! LOL
It's not that I didn't read the whole post, it's just that once I got to that part I started thinking about that damn Raspberry. Not to mention, I was gonna order the Marshmellow but it was out-of-stock!

Typo_joe's OCD came shinning through at the end of the first post with the picture. But I have to admit, it's a beautiful sight! At least until you taste that first turd flavored disaster! I figured that sweetener would last a while. Pretty sure it was the smallest bottle available at myfreedomsmokes. I couldnt find it at wizard labs.

More bottles will be on the next order. I figured these would be a good start. Plus after actually doing this for a little i hope ill have a better idea of what size bottles to buy myself.

I read the tip about covering the markings with nail polish on another thread. Im going to use sign laminate and see how it works. Its easier to get my hands on (i work at a sign/print shop) then nail polish (single guy)

I assumed the pipettes were useless. Thats actually why i didnt order them. But if its free its for me (well sometimes neway). Im sure theyll get used for something.

Also on my next order, i will include some additional add ons, like EM. I wanted to take small steps first and understand why i want to add them. Instead of just adding because thats what some people do.

It may not be a turd flavor (havent actually tried it yet) but i did make my first mixing goof. I started out making peach, Hawaiian punch and my mango mania, all in 3ml samples. After testing the punch i decided to make a full 10ml batch. The problem, i listed peach as my flavor (being lazy). When i actually mixed it, i used the peach. So now i have a 3ml batch of hawaiian punch mixed with 7ml of peach. Should be an interesting flavor.

As for my mango mania. Its great. I only mixed it at 10% (all others were 20). My next batch will up the flavor some. Then i may have to tweak the individual flavor amounts to get a better balance. I went ahead and filled my jtank with the sample batch and it has been my adv so far today. Although it will be gone by the end of work... Maybe ill give my peach hawaiian punch a try.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions. All are welcome... Even experiments that i should try.

Marshmallow should work with any of the fruits you bought. To me it adds creaminess, a touch of sweet, and some nice mouth-feel.

Would probably add a little extra something to the cupcake you bought, too.

Thanks for the suggestions. Adding it to a fruit would probably have been the last thing i tried but ill give it shot tonight.

Ive been thinking about flavor combinations all morning (while working of course). Even sneaking in some google searches for complimentary flavors. I realized how the day was going to be when in walked into the store and walked by the juices. I have never spent so much time reading labels wondering what flavors make that or that... I can see this is going to get dangerous! The crazy/(bad?) thing is that I am a very picky eater. So this is making me stretch out my taste pallet a lot...but I'm loving it.

OK, so I haven't tasted "turd" either! lol. But I should have read the reviews on ECF for Mint Chocolate Chip (LA) because,at least to me, @12% flavor in 50/50 pg/vg with 18mg/ml nic....…It tastes like a turd smells! 3/5 is very kind if you ask me! I'd say its more like 0/5. But I know how subjective taste can be. And from what I understand, anything chocolate is very hard to get right. All my attempts at chocolate have failed thus far! But like most DIY'ers I have no intention of giving up. Plus I'm sure that it won't be long until one of the flavor makers steps up and blends us a chocolate that is more forgiving. Hope so anyway.

I can make a good Turd Flavor!

In order to have a good Chocolate Flavor you're going to need a really good Vanilla Flavor as well as Cream. Haven't played with it enough waiting on my Vanilla

Well the mixing mishap i mentioned earlier (70% peach / 30% hawaiian punch) actually tastes pretty good. I did have a lingering green apple flavor (more a hint of). Thats from the atty in the iclear16 i put it in. I cleaned it but i guess not good enough. Didnt help the green apple sat in the tank for weeks before i ended up dumping it (too low nic/no throat hit). Now im not saying ill mix it again but ill vape it.

Speaking of attys, looks like i need to invest in a/some good dripping attys. anyone have any good recommendations? I want a hh357 but thats a little too steep for me right now. Maybe when i can afford to buy a reo!

Ikenvape's I06 is a good dripping atty with nearly the same flavor as an HH.357. I really like them in a DCA, but if you're on a budget just go with an I06 drip tip.

Me too... just hard to stomach $20+ on a single atomizer, no matter how good it is. I'll pull the trigger eventually, it's been on my 'get list' since early in my vape career.
