So I've been smoking for about ten years now and for the past few months i've been waking up feeling like i have a hole in my lungs and coughing all day. Smoking makes my throat so dry i need to drink something constantly and don't even get me started on trying to go up stairs.

i've decided to quit yesterday and found this forum and now I really want to buy one of these e-cigs but I have no idea where to start and feel even more overwhelmed after going through all the stickies. There is so many options!! I've read a log of suggestions on the 510 and the 901 but are there any other really good starters?

I smoke about a pack a day of Parliament Light or Marlboro Lights/Reds. I want something that really gives me the sense of smoking (but I don't think i really care for the nicotine, just the smoke) I love to sit around and blow O's so something that has enough vapor for O's would be great. Are there any that has a good amount of vapor but doesn't dry out your throat?

Also I've been wondering if you're out all day would these last? How many batteries do you need to last you a day's worth? I don't count puffs so I'm not even going to try to understand what that means but I've also read "lasts from 3-5 hours". is that 3-5 hours of straight smoking or including the breaks?

Thanks for all your help.

Your mom said not to say...
If you want a long lasting E-cig get a cartomizer like the KR808D-1, none of the 3pc units last long at all, you spent way too much time refilling carts or dripping. The cartomizers are a good deal better than the 3pc in mind. I use and recommend the GreenCig, I have used plenty of models as you can see in my signature and I have stopped buying kits the GC is the best of the lot bar none, I would put it up against ANY other E-cig or cartomizer on the market. Carts last me 24 hrs, they hit nice, the batteries last a loooong time, you can refill them. I have not used a better model at all, the GreenCig is my last model that I need to buy. I was looking at it when I was in you shoes and I did not believe the hype, I wish I would have it would have saved me over $150 easily, that's no lie. I could kick myself for not getting it when I first looked at it.

Whatever model you get I would still recommend a cartomizer 2pc model over any 3 pc model, ANY 3 pc model.

I recommend the Janty Stick if you want lots of vapor. And its got a holster that clips at your waist. It's batteries are a lot cheaper than continuously replacing the batts on a cig-looking PV. I use the 801 atomizer which has a larger cart that holds lots of juice. The batts last about 4 hours of rather continuous vaping, probably a lot longer for casual use. It's also got a passthrough for vaping in the house or car. Good luck to you! :)

Hey Yoitzo, Snarky is right to a degree about 3 piece kits. I currently am vaping off my M401 and it's been going on 3 weeks with the same atty/batt with no problems. I drip my own carts. The carts I am using have a PTB straw mod and that seems to work the best for me. If you want a 3 piece kit I recommend grabbing a Joye 510. They are a manual internal atty. You can get some really massive hits off that. I can sit there and blow O's through my other O's with my buddies 510. As far as flavoring goes, you're not going to find a flavor that exactly replicates those cigarettes. The problem with cigarette flavors is that there is no actual burning or tobacco so it's difficult to replicate the taste. I have heard the tobacco flavors can be quite harsh so i recommend diluting them down with a little vanilla flavor. Try some other flavors like cherry or chocolate and see if those do the trick. Hope that helps!

E-cigs are not a 'magic bullet' to smoking cessation.

The primary component of e-liquid is propylene glycol (PG). This is the compound that creates the vapor. Keep drinking lots of fluids if you decide to try vaping because PG will dry out your mucous membranes.

Blowing vapor rings requires lots of vapor. Cigarette-sized devices do not hold much e-liquid, so you would be frequently changing cartridges to provide the atomizers with fresh liquid to produce optimal vapor for this type of model (i.e. m401). Batteries need to be fully-charged for best vapor and will last a couple of hours of on and off use. Vapor production will fall off quickly. This is a sisgn it is time to replace your battery.

If vapor will be your litmus test, go with a manual device. This type of device has a button you need to push to provide power to the atomizer. The longer you heat the atomizer, the better volume of vapor you can produce. More vapor means you will also be using more e-liquid. Kind of goes with the territory.

One item you did not mention is something you may never have considered - throat hit. There is the feeling you get when analog smoke hits your throat. Many also feel the smoke filling the lungs and add this into the description of throat hit. Some users find that the average e-cig does not provide a fulfilling amount of throat hit. This is another reason you might consider a manual device because it provides very good vapor and very good throat hit. You can reduce throat hit by vaping e-liquids with low amounts of nicotine, so you are not 'stuck' with a device just because it irritates your throat.

Another factor that comes into play is voltage of the batteries supplying power to the atomizer. Typical e-cigs use batteries rated at 3.7 volts. Lots and lots of people are just fine with vaping at this voltage. Those chasing better vapor and outstanding throat hit will enter the realm of high-voltage vaping (HVV). This is done by using specially modified battery packs, or DIY devices, that run at 5-6 volts. While more expensvie than typical e-cig starter kits, some are very durable, will last for years, and use readily available batteries that are often 1/4 the price of a screw-in type battery most e-cigs use.

My uninformed opinion is to start with one of these type devices...

Good vapor, mild throat hit - DSE801/penstyle device with manual batteries or an m410 with manual batteries (try LiteCigUSA and Rocky Mountain Vapor to start)
Good vapor, very good throat hit - Joye510 (lots of vendors sell these) or DSE901 with manual battery
Great vapor, excellent throat hit - Super-T1 (Super T Manufacturing) with an adjustable airflow adapter for penstyle atomizers and a BE112 atomizer (bestecig.com) or any 801 atomizer.

I'm a 510 user.... love my 510..... but I don't recommend the 510 to new users.

I'm with Snarky. Find yurself a nice girl and settle down.. er.. I mean.. find a good deal on a KR808D-1 (VaporKing... Nebula.. etc..) 2 piece system and go for it.

Don't fret about the battery life. On that system the battery life is exceptionally good.... and buy your kit with the PCC and 2 batteries so you'll always have a charged battery in your pocket (where your analogs used to go!).

Later on, down the road, if you're looking for more vapor or throat hit... then we'll talk about 3-piece systems or mods.

But for now, keep it simple and get vaping!

I hope beer counts as fluid! Sorry for the hijack!

I have a bottle of water on my nightstand for just that reason.

I will add my vote as a former Parliament Light smoker, and for my husband as a mostly former Marlboro red smoker. The two piece model is the best way to go. We both have tried 801, 901, 510 and still they gather dust compare to our Vapor Kings (branded KR808D-1). The ease of use coupled with flavor, throat hit, and vapor makes this model far and above the rest. You want to "smoke", screw on a cartomizer and inhale - that's it. The cartomizers come in all the standard flavors (menthol, malrboro, and even parliament) and you can refill them pretty easily as well despite the fact that they are meant to be disposable. Two pieces to keep up with, and that's it. I have purchased from Vapor4Life and from Nhaler, and both of them look out for their customers. V4L currently has Parliament and Marlboro (called Cowboy) in stock. If you want the easiest most painless device - this is the way to go.

As always, if you are not thrilled with it, I have a stack of the others ready to trade. I am not a retailer, just someone who spent way to much on bulk orders of the other styles before finding my home with the Vapor King. I wish I would have found it first and now you have that option! Seriously, try it. If you don't like it, PM me and I will send you your choice of the others. I keep offering this and hoping someone will take me up on it. So far, only one person has even reached out, and he still has not taken the step for the trade.

Save yourself some pain, get a cartomizer model.

I use a 510 and like it. I get the idea that you are looking for a no fuss model though.

From what i've read the KR808D-1 aka Vapor King maybe a better choice for you. It is a disposable "cartomiser" and a battery.

Since 1/2 the e-cigarette is disposable you have that much less to deal with. The battery life is longer than the 510 as well.

I don't have experience with anything but a 510 so I'll let some other people chime in with their suggestions.
