Just read this on another forum, figured I'd share the info:

UTD-L SAFETY NOTICE
Right bear with me on this. So I've been using my UTD-L in 18350 mode with no problems since I got it last week. However, I'm at uni today getting some books from the library, and as I'm walking out I suddenly feel a searing heat down my right thigh. I stick my hand in my pocket to find my UTD-L is burning up. It was EXTREMELY hot to the touch and I managed to whip it out my pocket and onto the ground.
The thread in the middle section was loose, and there was liquid all over it, the nova and the battery.
Upon looking closer, I can see a small 'bump' in the base of the nova where the plastic has melted.
So I'm not sure what the culpret was, but if it had been in a bag and not my pocket, it could have gone on unnoticed for quite a while.
I don't know what caused it, but heres what I think:
1. The battery was faulty. Don't think this is too likely as apart from being covered in liquid and really hot, it looked fine. I've used this same battery for like 5 months now with no problems.
2. The Nova was faulty. Possibly, although I fail to see how it would suddenly melt on its own. It's not cracked in any way, but a tiny part has come loose from the thread.
3. The button could have been pressed in by my pocket, causing it to fire. Again, not all that possible as I wear really baggy cloths, and I was standing up at the time.
4. The UDT-L has fired itself up. I don't know if it has an auto cut off, I assume it would, but possibly not?
What I personally think has happened is the thing has fired itself up to the point where it heated the liquid up so much that it caused the nova to melt slightly, pouring scoring liquid over the whole device. This in turn has greased the threads up flooding the battery. This is the most likely, as the heat I felt was instant.
Either that, or its fired itself up, which has caused the base of the nova to heat to the point that it melted the bottom of the plastic tank.

You can just about see at the right hand side how the plastic has deformed.

So although I can't say for sure it was the UTD-L, I'd advise people to unscrew whatever is on top of theirs when not in use.
