Igetcha, you are correct about human rights being a weighty factor, and this is the enlightened, liberal, generous statesman who will be endorsing this lifesaving product.

As a Scot, a child of the manse and a supporter of Old Labour I may have a better chance of being persuasive if I just tell it like it is, mebbe?

But a big hug to all who sign the petitions! We need your vote!!!!

:D

I'm slightly concerned that too much government interest in e-cigs will limit the availability of e-liquid and possibly cause it to be taxed. I'm rather happy with the arrangement at the moment in the UK, where the government has stated no need for regulation one way or the other.

The petition is entitled "save our e-cig" - but it isn't under threat. I'm not entirely sure what this petition is for, other than to ask the government to provide more funding into checking the safety or otherwise of e cigarettes, and I'm not really sure this is where my tax should be going right now, especially as there's no real reason to assume it's harmful.

For these reasons I haven't signed.

In a house.
I tend to agree with mokeyjoe on this.
They are being sold on Amazon UK and Ebuyer.com two of the biggest Online Stores in the UK. Jason at TW complied with all of the TS's Requirements at his own Expense and they were satisfied.
Most of our Reputable Suppliers are acting resposibly and are doing the same.
The British Government and it's MP's are at the moment too busy trying to avoid Public Crucifixion and now is not the time to give them any reason to look our way.
Let Sleeping Dogs Lie might be the best course atm.
Just my opinion.

there are other people who had started a petition to BAN electronic cigarettes in the UK.........if anything you should sign to counter act that!

and if you think e-cigs are not under threat then i suggest you read through the 10 billion threads on this forum that dissagree!

ebay have now banned e-cigs...........it could just be the start.

In a house.
There are about 5 people who have signed Janet Death's Petition.
There's a list so long Our Petition that i stopped counting after about 140.
I voted a while ago. I'm about 75 or thereabouts. In fact i voted before you igetcha.
Any reason you did'nt use your real name ?

I'm not absolutely against it. It's just that if they want to ban it they will and there is nothing we can do about it.

I believe these online Petitions are there to create the illusion that we have some say in the matter.(whatever it is)

Ebay's policy is nothing to do with the government, they aren't even a UK based company, and the threat to ecigs I see on this forum seems to be mainly a US issue.

As for 'they'll ban it whether or not we want them to' argument, I don't necessarily believe that to be the case. I still believe we live in a democracy. :) However I don't think online petitions are really taken very seriously in this respect and getting in touch with your MP would be more productive.

I'd be more concerned about the EU's stance on these sorts of things, although having read the EU's current policy document I'm not really worried as it only seems to be concerned about whether they should be classed as a medical device or not (currently they aren't.)

I will be keeping a close eye on any government murmurings regarding electronic cigarettes of course!

Hi MJ,
I'd have thought lobbying MEPs was also a v. good idea.

Best,

I agree, which is why I made a point to look up what the EU's stance was on the matter. It seemed pretty sensible right now.

By the way I'm not against petitioning for and supporting ecigs in any way, and I can see why the second petition works to counteract the (rather feebly supported) ecig ban petition (I didn't see the second until after I posted). It was only really the first one I was unsure about, as to me it seemed to be asking for more government interference in ecigs rather than less (i.e. the status quo).

Sorry if I seem pedantic - I'm rather fussy about what I put my name to. :)

I quite understand. But I also feel it's a mistake to assume that the successive waves of anti tobacco legislation that have been travelling eastwards across the pond over the last few years are about to somehow stop doing so.

Mustering support at the last minute is well nigh impossible. And there will always be individuals to keep saying "Hush don't wake the dragon" until one fair day WHHHhhhhhooooooshhhhh! And St George awakes from a nice kip, scratching his head and going "Oooh ar, ermmm, wot??"

:(

I have very little faith in these petitions. Does anyone actually believe that the current government gives a monkeys about what the public think?

Probably not, but one shouldn't leave the territory to others.
seeing how the previous smoking bans spread, I'd be making a noise now if I had Irish MEP's to talk to.

Best,

C.
