The petitions themselves have no/little direct effect on the Government (even the anti-roadpricing one which got around 2 million sigs only delayed things). BUT what they do achieve is to spread the word...

Signed. We're 96 now, as opposed to 5-odd on the Death-petition 
I think e-petitions only come to the government's notice if they have collected a certain number of signatures. But it is essential to make our voices heard early. The government will pick up on e-cigs sooner rather than later and it is wise to take pre-emptive steps like petitioning for tests. It's all good
People should really only sign once. Using pseudonyms is not helping the cause. I notice the list has decreased from 140 signatories to under 100?

The biggest e-petition on the site at the moment is for G.Brown to go. The fact that they allow this speaks well of them, I think ( although I should point out that I did sign that petition!).
