Well, thanks to all the great reviews and examples of Innovapor's awesome customer service, I decided to pull the trigger on an Apex Alpha. I was still debating between the ultra and ultramax, but figured I should just flip a coin to make my decision. I like the bigger RES on the max, but I am concerned that it might be too big for me. We'll see...! :)

I placed my order Friday night and got an email confirmation with tracking number on Saturday. Now that's super-service! :)

A little background: I've been vaping since 2009, and after trying lots of different units, I had settled (mainly) on the GoGo. Since the beginning I've stayed with cartomizers because I thought they were the easiest. Atomizer PVs always seemed like a pain in the ...., BUT when I started reading about the Alpha series RES units I thought it would be worth a try.

My complaints about cartos is that occasional toxic burnt blast they would emit. It's not always just about letting them go dry... there seems to be no rhyme or reason to that nasty business. The other thing I am excited to get away from is the wasteful throwing away of the cartos.

I also really like supporting American companies (especially in this recession), and the product and customer service looks great with Innovapor. I'll be sure to post some feedback (and quite possibly questions!) once I get it.

It's not really all that much bigger than the Ultra. The difference in battery life far outweighs any difference in size, anyway ;-)

I don't have any other models for comparison, but as you can see the Ultramax is actually a really comfortable size

I'm sure you'll enjoy it when it arrives :2cool: The RES does have a little bit of a learning curve, but just stick with it 'cos once you get it down pat it's a great vape :vapor:

Smaller than most mods with similar sized batteries, I'd say.

My ultramax fits easily in a shirt pocket or breast pocket of my suit. It's a little too heavy for some shirt pockets, but not nearly as heavy as some. Or in the front pocket of my jeans, it's great.

The learning curve on the RES that everybody talks about is real, but don't worry too much about it- it still works, even when you're learning. Just sometimes hits dry and sometimes gurgles.

Best,
Ande

Thanks Ande.

OK, I picked up my Ultramax at the PO this morning, topped off the batteries, followed the instructions, and have been vaping all day on it.

It's premature to really comment yet, but so far I really like it. I've spent a fair amount of time fiddling with getting the right amount of liquid, so that it's flowing nicely but not over full. I'm still very much learning to use this unit, but (fingers crossed) so far so good.

The switch was very easy to operate from the get go, but just a few minutes ago it kind of got stuck. I worked it a bit and got it working... but it's a little stiff now. I can see how some people might be having a hard time with it not sliding easily. I'm going to clean it out and see if that helps. I may end up having to buy the bottom-activation switch if it stays like this or gets worse.

One thing I don't really understand is the reasoning behind plating the aluminum on these. Aluminum is naturally pretty stain resistant by itself. Seems like the nickel plating is not necessary-- might even make the discoloring worse. I personally like the way the darkening unit looks (based on others pics), but some don't care for it.

Rather than nickel plating these I would think anodizing them would be a better solution (although plain alum would be fine IMHO). Anodizing is tough, and I think you can do all kinds of colors, which might be a big draw for some. Just a thought...

Anyway, I'm going to give it a few more days before I post more detailed impressions. So far I'd have to say I'm a pretty happy camper.

Although I have the smaller Ultra I can also say that the switch breaks in after 1 or two weeks and now I don't even notice it, it's that easy to operate. Sometimes when I am bored or just sitting in front of the computer and reading stuff I even activate the switch for a second just to enjoy the smooth springy sensation and the angry hiss of my 306 :)

Congratulations on your purchase. I'm sure you will find that the more you use it and break it in the more you will like it. The reason they are nickel plated and not anodized is for better conductivity. Nickel plating is extremely conductive. Anodizing the alpha could possibly cut it down so much that it would not work at all. So that's why we chose to go that route on them. If you have any other questions let me know. Happy vaping.
