I could be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure that metals can not form covalent bonds (share electrons), therefore they can not form actual molecules. A molecule is formed when 2 atoms share electrons creating that molecule.

Please, stop arguing about "molecular structure" of metals. Please, stop supporting your arguments with short definitions from a dictionary.
You have pushed me to use Wikipedia for educational purposes:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molecule

However, the majority of familiar solid substances on Earth, including most of the minerals that make up the crust, mantle, and core of the Earth, contain many chemical bonds, but are not made of identifiable molecules. Also, no typical molecule can be defined for ionic crystals (salts) and covalent crystals (network solids), although these are often composed of repeating unit cells that extend either in a plane (such as in graphene) or three-dimensionally (such as in diamond, quartz, or sodium chloride). The theme of repeated unit-cellular-structure also holds for most condensed phases with metallic bonding, which means that solid metals are also not made of molecules. In glasses (solids that exist in a vitreous disordered state), atoms may also be held together by chemical bonds without presence of any definable molecule, but also without any of the regularity of repeating units that characterises crystals.

So, as you can see, not only your spoon, but even table salt are not made from molecules.

I'm sure 3xx steel is perfectly fine for mech mod purposes... I'm no expert on the matter.

The point I was trying to make in my last post, was in some other metal goods (guns, knives, even sometimes flashlights), there is alot of thought that goes in to the specific type of metal used. It is searched out, sometimes exclusively only available from one source. And that's only one aspect of many other criteria... You are paying a premium for this sort of thing.

I find it silly that "some" high end mech mods do not remotely meet this sort of criteria for manufacturing, yet still end up pricing over twice as expensive.

It's asinine, and just proves that an artificial and inflated price is being set.

It's a suckers market. There are good guys out there, but a hell of alot more "fly by night" quacks pushing overpriced goods.

But that's fine, I just don't buy those mods. Easy.

However, it still won't stop me from calling "bull****" if and when I feel like ranting. It's a free country, I'm bored, and waiting for Sunday football to start already.. :D

Actually, carbon added to iron creates an alloy called steel. An alloy is not a molecular structure but a physical arrangement, which can be separated again without a chemical process. But metals do interact with other compounds, usually by losing or giving an electron from their valence layer, such as the reaction between iron and oxygen, which creates a molecule of iron oxide, from atoms of iron and oxygen.

Metallic elements can form many thousands if not millions of molecules, but at that point, they are no longer referred to as a metal, but as the resulting compound; a salt or an oxide, or a host of others.

    Alien,
I dont understand why you attacked me, but since your post and position has already been thoroughly debunked by many others, I will only add the following:

I never said that I didnt see spalling with unaided vision.
Had that been the case, i wouldve stated that I used a borescope. I didnt. i just looked.

I have to wonder at your motivations.

As for all of the Authentics being overpriced? I dont think so, but that is a matter of opinion.

Why would you go on an internet forum, and launch such a personal attack?

    Ah.

A troll that uses Wikipedia as source material at that.

    Oh, one other thing.
When I purchase replacement parts for any bot I service, the extruded parts cost much less, and last much less, than milled parts.
I am sorry, but I am going to take my career experience over some aggressive wierdo's personal attack.

    Back to the original topic:

I paid extra for a mod that was to be built when certain materials using certain methods for my own reasons.

The product delivered to me did not meet this criteria.

I think thatNy of the newer companies are like this....as a matter of fact, from now on, I am going to be suspicious of any non telescoping mod that costs more than $200.

If I were you I'd be upset too. Any company should provide the product they claim to be selling in all aspects. However I encourage you to not be skeptical of every modder. Some of them ARE providing what they claim to be providing & aren't trying to take short cuts or provide a lesser quality product.

I do not want to heat, then inhale air that has crossed any metal that was worked in China, nor should anyone else. Never mind the fact the builder made false claims about the quality and source of his materials.

I like this crack comment, right in the middle of an Authentic Rant.
Oh, and the tube is usually the part on the lower end of the device.

I find it Very hard to believe there are more than a tiny number of people that came to Vape and NEVER touched anything from China. The, I'd Never, gets old after a while. I no longer, would be more Honest.;)

    Alien,
I dont understand why you attacked me
I have attacked not you but your poor understanding of metals after declaration that you “know metals”. I repeat: using phased array tester you cannot determine wheter a mod was machined or extruded.

, but since your post and position has already been thoroughly debunked by many others
    Really?

A troll that uses Wikipedia as source material at that.
I am sorry, but only person educated by bloggers can say bad things about Wikipedia. In a field of technology and science it is one of the best sources. Read Wikipedia.

I said that my field is electronics, and I do know metals enough to suspect the difference between milled and extruded. I think that even you would admit that it can often be differentiated by the naked eye.
Secondly, I agree that I couldnt the difference.

But the guys in the metal shop sure can.

I just forwarded your post to them, as some of them were called in today, and need a laugh.

Anyways. People like you live to argue, and in my experience, quoting crowd sourced, freely compiled sources (Wikipedia) denotes ignorance of actual research cases, therefore ignorance of the subject.

Were we discussing electronics I sure as heck wouldnt quote wikipedia.

I will not respond to you after this post.

    Good day.

You are correct, that was an error. I was thinking of atomisers and didnt not express that.
    Sorry about that, good catch.

As for the rest of your post, I say this : I want to get what I pay for. I want what I want for reasons of my own.

I am sure that you are the same way :)

See, this is why I only vape on Titanium mods made by the French now. The French are a warm, loving, welcoming people who would never export anything that would harm anyone! (ok, yeah, even I can't believe I made it past "The French are a warm, loving, welcoming people" without laughing but they do make a helluva mod and some delicious cheeses and nearly all of them understand English when you yell it at them loud enough.)

I am sorry, but since I understand metals much better than you do, I should be harsh on you.
Your understand nothing at all in metals.

    1. Equipment for extrusion is very expensive. Dies for extrusion are very expensive. This method of metal working is effective only for very big-volume manufacture, not for making of clones.
I look on my (really cheap) vamo and see it was milled. I do have experience with metals and do not need any tests for recognizing milled piece.

    2. Ultrasonic test is mostly useless as recognizing method of manufacture of small pieces (I did a lot of work with ultrasound)

    3. Micro spilling is visible by naked eye as defects (spots) of surface. So you are lying again.

    4. Metal that was worked in China is the same metal as anywhere. Specifications are the same, and it is difficult and expensive to put something bad for health in a metal for as long as it is not a lead in brass. But then lead in brass is common all over the world. By the way I am sure you have a lot of Chinese metal around your kitchen.

Conclusion: you are raving about things you know nothing about. Your are trying to mislead ECF members.

This the first comment that I have ever read on this board to which I gave a standing ovation! :) Even before I arrived at your perfect rebuttal of the OP's post, I was already thinking to myself " why is that those who speak most often, and most negatively about counterfeits, are also often guilty of counterfeit intelligence?" Masters of spinning intelligent sounding words, and explanations, yet the statements made very rarely hold their own weight in water. :glare:

The aspect of the OP's post which I found the most deplorable was that even as their negative product experience was related to a "authentic" that was not made in China, and that turned out to be crap, and a rip off in OP's opinion, that the OP also found it necessary to condemn China yet again, even as China has nothing to do with the OP's recent negative experience. These kinds of statements are so transparent, and agenda driven that I genuinely find them sickening ... FRAUD was the only thing running through my mind as I read through the original post.

It is bad to produce and consume counterfeit products, but it is perfectly acceptable to demonstrate a character lacking in honesty, objectivity, and fairness, and to put forth false and misleading information as fact? I see ...

As the saying goes "Judge and ye shall be Judged" ... Everyone has the right to tell the truth about their own direct experiences, and to offer their opinions regarding those things that they have observed. However, using one negative experience as an opportunity to vilify, and condemn any person, place, or thing which is not related to your recent and direct experience is EVIL and demonstrative of a character lacking in integrity, and basic Human decency. This behavior is no different no than the tactics employed by the US government to vilify and condemn electronic cigarettes, and the community of users who consume them. Nice ... :glare:
