So, was trying to explain to a cab driver where I wanted to go and had my GGTS w/ UFSv2 in my shirt pocket. Saw my normal taxi guy pull up across the street, said sorry and dashed across the road... GGTS falls out, slams against the pavement and gets partially run over.

Amazingly, it still seems to work, some good scratches (more like missing chunks of metal) but the button is kind of jacked up now. It was locked off at the time, but when I picked it back up it was locked on and so tight that trying to turn it took the whole button off. Threads feel a little messed up, but with some pliers I was able to get the lock working again but couldn't get it to stay on the GGTS without using the pliers to lock it in place. That lasted about a week until it came off again, had to repeat the same process with pliers to get it working the second time. The throw is a little off (magnetic upgrade) but other than the above problem everything else seems to be working just fine.

Any ideas on how to fix it without getting replacement parts? Visibly I can see nothing wrong with the threads, but they don't "feel" right when I screw it on the GGTS, locking part works fine once I get it all working. Button works, but I don't have to press it in as much as I did before to activate it, but if I take the button off (or remove the post) it still goes as far in as normal... I'm thinking something got shifted, which would explain the button part (less distance between post and button now).

While it is pure speculation on my part without photo's to verify, the way the unit is made, I would suspect that despite looks, the threads of the button housing are what is out of line.

The tube being steel and much tougher than the nickle plated brass button housing would seem to be the part most likely to give under force before the tube threads. I know you have other GGTS so my suggestion to confirm it is the threads of the button housing would be to simply see if the button housing from an undamaged GGTS threads on without the misaligned feel.

If it is the button housing, I can't see anything short of replacing it unless you have access to the right sized threading dies. If you can verify it to be those threads and have the die for that thread, it would remove the remaining nickle but you should be able to return the threading to their proper alignment.

Again, this is all speculation w/o pix but as noted, you can verify this using a button from one of your other pieces. :)

I'm on a business trip right now, I'll be back home on Monday and can try with another GGTS (which is what I was thinking of doing). Same issue with pictures.

If I understood correctly, you're talking about the actual button threads, right?

Yes I was referring to the actual threads of the button which screw into the tube. Unless when it was run over by a car it missed the button completely and made the bottom tube out of round, the brass threads of the button will gove way before the stell ones on the tube.

Its like when I dropped my GGTS when it has an Iatty on it, the rethreader just ripped in half because it was not made of as tough a metal as the Iatty's threads -- good advice, major!:thumb:

The brass doesn't stand a chance with the stainless steel parts.
I just ordered th steel UFS connector, the original nickel plated brass is going fast with the iatty attached to it.

OH GOD! I can only imagine. I had some serious clench factor the whole time I was reading that post. I'm having sympathy pains. :(

Valascar, I didn't know you were chief tester in the torture test division!

zomg ain't that the truth! If that had happened to me, I'd still be rattled. Not that it would help anything but you saw how I went into mourning when I saw #008 for the first time and that is all being corrected!

The idea of a car running over one of my GG's makes me want to send my wife out ahead of me before I cross a busy street! (Just teasing dear in case you read this. :D)
