Hi guys, i'm pretty new to vaping. I have been doing it for 2 months now. My starter kit was a joyetec e-vic mini with a kanger subtank (atty is an rba of about 0.5 ohms). I have just obtained my second setup. It is a wismec reuleaux rx200 with a uwell crown tank. The atty i use is a 0.25ohm dual coil.

I don't vape as a replacement for smoking, i simply enjoy blowing big clouds and tasting major flavor. Over the last few weeks i have experimented with different e-juices and i have come to the conclusion that i like juice with little to none throat hit, so i can maximize my inhales and get a lot of flavor. After doing some research i found out that juices with a high VG percentage are perfect for this.

In the beginning my friend recommended to make some DIY juice. So i went and bought some flavors and some base liquid (20PG/80VG 3mg nic). This was fine as a starter kit, but after a while i bought some premixed liquids (20PG/80VG 0mg nic). I liked these a lot more as they gave me more flavor and had an overall nicer inhale feeling.

My most recent purchase were some premixed juices as well, this time with a 50/50 pg/vg ratio. Even though the PG level on these juices are higher, i still dont get any throat hit (which is a good thing to me). I do notice that i get less vapor from this juice than the 20/80 juices. I have been vaping this juice on my Wismec and it is lovely. These juices are relatively expensive though and my Wismec just burns through it like crazy, as you can understand.

This is where my problem comes in. I decided to go back to the DIY juice for two reasons.
1: it is cheaper, especially when burning ejuice really quickly on my Wismec.
2: it has a higher VG ratio, which makes for better clouds.

The problem is that i get major throat hits with the DIY juice. I instantly coughed on my first inhale. I tried it a couple more times, but couldnt inhale for more than 1 second.

I have no clue why i get these throat hits with DIY 20/80 juice while the premixed 50/50 juice vapes like a dream. Could it be the 3mg nic? My gut feeling tells me that that cant be the issue. Could i be doing something wrong with my mixing? I am clueless as to what causes this.

If anybody knows what might be the issue, please enlighten me.

Thanks!

TH is usually the result of nicotine content. The higher the nic level the more TH. If your nic base has a medium to strong odor I would say it is the reason. How some people rate various nic vendors is by the smoothness of the base when vaped. I think maybe Nude Nicotine has a mix that is suppose to be very smooth. Might check them out. Also, make sure you aggressively shake your nic base before mixing to insure it is well mixed. I place my bottle in a cup of hot water to make the VG nic base thin which inturn makes it easier to shake and mix. Hope this helps some and good luck.

Hi, welcome to the forums. Where are you purchasing you DIY supplies and nic?
Thank you!

After some backtracking i found out that i bought the base liquid (the one that causes the throat hit) from a dutch site called happysmokes.nl. I also found out that it is actually a 30/70 pgvg solution instead of the 20/80 i thought it was. It is a brandless base liquid. To avoid confusion: the base liquid i bought has nicotine already mixed into it. The flavors i used for this DIY juice are from mountbakervapor. I got those from cloudhouse vapor.

Hi and welcome here!

I'd suspect the 3 mg nic vs 0 mg nic causes more throat hit differences than the 30/70 vs 20/80 ratio of your juice.

Hi, and thank you!

Could it be that the 3mg nic (even though this is a small amount of nicotine) causes a throat hit because i'm vaping A LOT of juice every inhale on my wismec? Because this was not a problem when vaping it on my joyetech+kanger.

More vapor production means getting more of everything that is in that vapor. If you doubled your vapor output you made a huge increase in both the amount of nicotine and the amount of PG you are taking in.

It could be the nic but I strongly suspect the 30% PG is overkill. Get some 100 VG and run some numbers through a calculator to knock a mix back down to 20 PG or even less. See what happens.

I have thought about that as well, the only thing that seems weird to me is that i get almost no throat hit at all when vaping te premixed juice with a 50/50 pgvg ratio...

I get my throat hit from the pg in my mix. I'm down to 12mg, but when I was vaping 24mg 85% vg I got mild TH. Now it seems I almost have to go 70pg 30vg to get a throat hit. Then again, I was a very heavy smoker.

Also the quality of our vendors' product have a lot to do with it. You can make the best flavored juice, but if you have crappy nicotine its crappy juice. LOL

I am having fun experimenting when I don't hit a glitch..which has been often.:)

My guess here is the quality of the nicotine is causing that throat hit. Try mixing a Zero with your flavors and if that doesn't solve it try a flavorless zero nic mix and try again. Nicotine is not the same as some manufacturers sell throat hit nicotine. Just a thought and hope it helps.

Good Luck and vape On Safely!

I am not sure because I do not like throat hit but there was a company that offered it. Sorry to say I think the discontinued it. Using high PG you should get throat hit and there is something I think it is called flash for throat hit. Good Luck and do a Google search.
