A pico is what I'm using, with AF in TC mode, 99% of the time. One of the newest features I appreciate is the ability to set a max watts for all modes and profiles. I never go above 30 watts so the limit is set there for a bit more safety. I use two different atomizers so there is a profile for each. There is also a profile only used for doing a cotton burn test and another only used for dry firing a coil before rewicking. TC helps the most with the rda I'm using most of the time. The max watts after each puff helps determine when the juice well is dry. (At that point temp climbs to the protection value and watts declines noticably.) Today I wouldn't buy a mode that doesn't run AF firmware.

HOW ABOUT THAT. Huh. Thank you for finding that out! That is a big help!

And yes, we have definitely been having the same problem.

Still curious about this firmware though.... :D
UPDATE:
I was not able to reliably get the "New coil up same down" message using the above linked method. If you don't get this message, you are NOT locking in your new coil resistance. I did some further reading and experimented, and have a method that works every time to ensure that you get the "New coil up same down" message so your new coil resistance can be entered correctly. Give me a week to get my new Pico and I'll have AF on the old one! Is there a way to reliably initiate the "new coil up same coil down" message in AF? See the post I left above about the pain it is to get Pico firmware to recognize a new coil when its only a .03 or so ohms different than the old one, and the workaround to fix that.

@David Wolf Actually, I decided to just go for it since I DO have two Picos, and other stuff, etc. So I just got Arctic Fox on my older Pico about 10 minutes ago.

It's totally awesome! I can't believe I hadn't heard about this until now; so many of my devices are eleafs and Joyetech and Wismecs. It will take me a while to get everything set up, I haven't tried the TC yet but have a nice preheat on just the M3M factory head for a change. Seems really, really well done.

I have a feeling I will end up putting this on most, if not all, of my applicable mods.

I'm sure I will learn all of this as I get a chance to fiddle but can someone confirm if basically everything has to be set up through the computer besides a straight wattage, or can you fiddle with, say, the TCR onboard?

You learn all about it and then teach me when I get it, haha.
You should be able to change TCR on your Pico running Arctic Fox firmware:
Main Menu
Hold Fire and Plus buttons (by default) for a 1 second to enter menu.

When your in a specific profile push and hold + - it zeroes stored resistance, I believe there is also a shortcut to do the same thing but cannot recall it off hand.

I would be more than happy to help share what I'm able to learn by the time you install it!

Yes, I think I see now how to change it. Just definitely has a learning curve! I do have a SS coil on now and it is giving a VERY high quality TC vape. It almost brought tears to my eyes, coming from the damn Pico. Srsly.

Seems like 3 clicks of the fire button still brings up menu, too.

@ccwaters do you press +/- together while you're on the menu screen that says "Profile x" and the info for that profile, or you press them once you're actually in the profile?

You guys are on your way to getting some Pico AF converts :D

What mod/firmware are you using? My Pico has vers1.00.
Part of my problem has been getting resistance to lock properly, lock it and it changes anyway like its predicting my coil. This time I took lock off, took off atomizer, put back on and selected "new coil" and locked it at 0.67 which seemed high. After vaping a bit and letting it cool down with resistance unlocked it read 0.63 ohms. I figure that's my CLR coil so I locked it and it's staying at 0.63 ohms and behaving but I will see as I vape this tank down. 6 wraps spaced 28awg 316L. M1 TCR 80 (92 makes it 50 deg hotter than setting checked with a thermocouple) 11W temp 380 to 390. Vaping MTL. If it stays this good a vape I'll be happy.
You asked for those running a Pico and AF.. I thought.... running current build of AF 170610 on a Pico 75w. Stable version is # 170603....

Oh I quit going by what the numbers say..especially Temp..... I basically adjust the mod blind. Adjusting tcr till it gives me temp control in the range I want at the wattage i want to run....... that mean a good vape might be at 300 sometimes 500f.. I try to target builds for 25watts or less at 400f. I prefer a loose MTL restricted tight lung draw... Lung assisted MTL.

The pico should actually lock thevresistance... but if you push the fire button it will change.. but should return to set temp after firing... only time I could not lock mine using eleaf or AF ware was when trying to lock on kanthal or Nichrome when in TC modes.

Most, not all, features can be adjusted with button presses. It took me some practice to get around with the buttons. While I was learning how I did adjustments with the toolbox. The way the PC business evolved a chip company specialized in the electronics, other companies specialize in form factors (desktop, notebook, etc.) and yet others focus on software. That's what we have with arctic fox and compatible devices.

I'm helping a new vaper get started. He will have a pico running a Nautilus 2. I'll install AF and create a low watts power mode profile for that. The display will be set so he can see puffs time and amps or volts. Finally I'll set system wide max watts to a lower value so he can't accidently set watts higher than he needs or exceed the amp rating of an LG HG2. When he's ready to experiment with settings or move to TC I might recommend he get a second mod for that and set a max watts limit at the start so he can't use too much power.

On another topic, when I rewick my current stainless temp control build there is some puzzling temporary behavior that sorts itself out but I don't understand. I rewick my rda every couple of days. That involves a quick rinse of the deck with water, a gental dry burn, burnishing the inside of the coil with a diamond deburing tool turned with fingers. Then I check resistance on a stand alone ohm reader then do a dry cotton test at 420 F and finally rewick and saturate the coil. Here's where things get interesting. Lately the mod reports atomizer short but the stand alone resistance meter still sees everything okay. So I fiddle for a bit and finally the atomizer short messasge goes away and everything works as normal. I have no explanation for this behavior. The atomizer short message always seems to clear itself up. The profile settings I use are in the signiture area below.

Yeah I am already quickly learning how to do a lot of this stuff. Thanks so much for explaining some.

It's interesting you mentioned that atomizer short problem. I am finding something similar on my RX200. I decided to just go for it; I wasn't about to update all of my devices until having some time to play around myself, but I wanted the increase in power.

Anyway, I tried screwing on my lemo 3 and using SS mode; it fired for 4 seconds and then read "atomizer short" as it was firing. Same thing happened with my Pharaoh tank, also in SS. I was able to reproduce this occurrence a couple of times.

I haven't actually found a real fix yet. At least one other atomizer is working fine in SS mode, and I'm pretty sure both the Lemo and Pharaoh were working well in power mode, so it's definitely a little perplexing. I know the atomizer short message has been an ongoing issue with the RX200 but this SEEMS to be related to the firmware, at least partially, idk. Both of the tanks having trouble in SS right now have a bit of a wobble even at max tightness, so could be a combination of connection and new firmware?

Which version are you running? Nightly build 170610 fix the atomizer short issue in TC mode issue on my pico....

I haven't been able to reproduce the problem on the Pico yet; atm that has been reading right at all times. It's just been my RX200, just to clarify. So far those are the only 2 I've installed on.

I'm pretty sure I'm on the latest stable version 170603??or something.

I didn't see any downloads to 170610 anywhere, where can I find it? Is that still a beta?
