I've got 2 KFL+s and a KFL (all supposedly EHPro clones, but I'm not sure about the KFL as it didn't have the EHPro logo on the box), and whenever I have to break them down for cleaning or rebuilding, I have the toughest time getting them to come apart.

The middle tank sections are generally easier to unscrew as I can get a decent grip on them, but the base and the topcap don't have much surface for my big fingers. I've found that inserting a paperclip or drill bit into the side air hole gives me enough leverage to get the base off (with effort), but I end up having to pad the topcap with a paper towel or something and use pliers to steady it while I unscrew the attached tank section.

Today I apparently didn't pad the topcap enough and the pliers ended up leaving a small scratch on my topcap.

The threads seem ok, and they don't have any burrs or anything (well, the KFL+s don't). They just seem to go together really tightly.

Is this normal? Does anyone have any suggestions for getting these things apart easier?

Walmart - Frosty Grip Gloves

I'm old and only 120lbs. - The gloves make up for it and then some. No topper is safe from my gloves.:D

I'm not old and weigh more than twice what you do, but I use latex gloves from Walmart myself. Makes everything much easier.

And, to the OP, I just remove the bottom and chimney whenever I re-wick mine and give everything a good rinse out.

I usually have more of an issue getting the chimney sections apart myself.

I always had luck with that problem by putting a little PG on the threads of each part. Every time I had to reassemble it I dabbed the threads with it. Did the trick for me. If you don't have PG you can use a little of your e juice to do the same thing. Also I read someone say to run the stuck parts under very hot water, that worked for me also.

two things.

1.)don't ever screw them in too tight to begin with
2.) grab your wife's grippy hoogamabobbit round grippy thingy from the kitchen... or like everyone else mentioned latex gloves etc... just need a better grip sometimes i can actually use my shirt but the KEY for me is to never tighten them hard in the first place because I find they only need to be snug
