Hi fellow members of ECF.

I quit smoking four weeks ago, well I say quit, I'm now vaping which isn't really quitting is it. :D

Obviously I was over the moon to dispatch the dirty cigs but now I'm noticing small side effects with vaping.

Before you ask, I'm using a Jacvapour 808 starter kit, coupled with the odd '10motives' ecig from Tescos UK.

The things that are playing on my mind are the fact that since I started vaping I seem to keep getting a build up of clear phlegm on my chest (not quitting phlegm). I've also noticed that my face has started to become very oily, but not a normal build up of oil, rather like I've been working in a chemical smog.

If I'm honest, I'm a bit ...... off. I was so pleased to get off the smokes and now it looks like I'm gonna have to give up the vaping too!

Anyhow, I'm no Doctor, but my guesses are that breathing in the LG/VG isn't natural hence the build up of the clear phlegm in my lungs, plus the oily skin is both an internal excretion and external coating of the epidermis from vaping?

Just my thoughts...

If somebody more experienced in vaping could inform me in more detail I would be very grateful.

Thanks.

Hey Monkey...I am having the same thing. But I've smoked for 40 years and have always hacked up that crap. I'm thinking it's still from the 40 years of smoking and will take awhile to clear out of my chest. I don't think it is caused by the vaping. Perhaps others will provide more insight. And yes, if you are not smoking analaogs...YOU HAVE QUIT!!!! Congratulations!

Hello & welcome Medieval Monkey :)

I'm also in the UK & been vaping for over 4 years. I used to be a very heavy smoker & to me the e-cig has been a life saver (& a massive money saver).

As the others have said, your symptoms are most likely due to giving up smoking, rather than using the e-cig. One side effect is known as quitters flu.

Thanks Edana.

I am 35 and have smoked since I was 12. Yes I know, bad isn't it.

The thing is, I did quit analogues for a year a while ago, but when I did the excretions weren't 'clear' but green/yellow.

Haha, I can't believe I'm conversing with somebody I've never met about the colour of my past phlegm, god bless the internet!? :toast:

It's not just me though, my silly friend who's never smoked grabbed one of my ecigs the other day whilst we were enjoying a few beers and ended up coughing up the same stuff the following day.

The email I received off him the following day was quite amusing I must admit, he thought he had nicotine poisoning.

Anyhow, thanks for your kind response and good luck with the vaping/quiting.

Thanks all above for all your positive replies.

I shall continue to vape for the next couple of months, and if my will is strong enough I'll ween myself off by dropping my dose.

I've taken up a more healthy lifestyle so it doesn't really fit anyway. (Get out dirty nicotine)!

Saying this, I am still interested to hear other vapours advice on my side effects and on good vaping practices etc.

Cheers,

Monkey.:nun:

Hahaha...yep, can't say I ever got into a conversation with anyone on the net over phlegm. Oh well, it has to be discussed.:glare:

Thanks gthomson for your list, this is quite informative.

I'm not an hypochondriac, but I can't wait to see some deeper studies in the near future on the effects of vaping, (if there may be long term effects asides from the obvious nicotine).

If anything, (going slightly off post here,) it makes my blood boil when I see so much negative propaganda against vaping, which is obviously funded by the big tobacco companies.

Anyhow, I'll save my rant for another post.

Thanks everybody for your help.

I think we can safely call this thread closed now.

Cheers.

Monkey.

Hello there,

I have also experience the oily skin and what is called "quit zits". It's been years since my last pimple. Now we can add pimples to our phlegm talk! For me I find I need to wash my face twice a day to help combat the oil.

Again, I have had phlegm coming almost everyday - my sinuses are clearly giving me a run for my money. All this is part of quitting analogs.

Please don't give up yet! I know there are moments when I want to say the heck with all of this...yet I am still trekking with vaping!

Cheers and Happy Vaping!:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

Thanks for responding Jespeak,

I don't suffer from spots and my face isn't mega oily, it's just feeling 'grimy', and for a fella that likes to keep himself clean it just bugs me, I shouldn't have to be washing my face every few hours. Haha!

It reminds of when I used to work near trucks all day, I'd have a film of diesel grease on my face when I got home, not good.

Anyhowser, good luck yourself with the vaping/quitting nicotine, and thanks again for your response.

Cheers!
