I have ZERO manual dexterity, and little to none of the basic knowledge and skill sets to do a mod. Therefore, I challenge any of you modders that do have the skill to build this unit. I saw a mod on another forum called the "vippo" where someone built a carto and battery into the wick case of a zippo lighter. Everything worked great according to this guy but the battery life sucked. I saw on ECF a mod called the "sidewinder" by tinear and he used a 3.7v batt from a camera and he said it lasted all day with no problem. So, Is anyone willing to try this mod?! I will send you whatever parts you need, including one of my beloved zippos! PLEASE:D

I vote connman too. I've seen both projects, curious that you bring the 2 together. The vippo really wont allow much more battery, but of the atty protruded sideways out the lid somehow, who knows?

On the vippo I think he said he used the batt out of a 510 or 801, I would think that would give you more than 20 min that he claimed. If you put the carto on one end of the wick case ( next to the spring clip ) I would think you could fit a flat camera batt in with just enough room for the wiring. It would be a tight fit though. I'll try to PM Connman later.:vapor:

Ok I have a Zippo and my old Digital camera that don`t work anymore and if these batteries actually come smaller then this one. It could be possible. So that is my question.
Do they come smaller? And this one is 650mAh 1 3/4" tall, 1 1/4" wide, 1/4" thick.

With this battery not possible and still have the part of the zippo that keeps the lid shut.

Sci, asdaq, and misterD. Thanks for the voting.

I agree with that so much the battery must have been old for sure.

Thanks asdaq,
Those batteries look pretty sweet although I`m really looking at a tight space in there. Once the atty/battery connector is in the side space is next to nothing. Well that`s due to my other tube it goes into for the airflow.

I need to touch up a couple things in this one but will have to remount the lid snap on the Zippo itself due to that thing flew right off when I drilled the wick hole out of there. Then I had this bright idea of bending it and sticking it down in my new hole. Nope snaps as soon as you bend it. But I got a plan.
I`m also working on getting it all in there with a mini usb charging plug. Think I got that figured out as well.

Here is a shot of the one I have for the test run. It actually works by your lips pushing on the switch. When I did that I was thrilled since I thought man if you have to hit that switch with your thumb you might get a new nickname from those that see you use it. I can just picture a little kid asking why you still suck your thumb.

Well here is what it`s looking like. :)

Maybe this might work?
PowerDisc, PD3555, 3.7V 500 mAh Li-Ion Rechargeable Coin Cell

is actually 500mah, 1 3/8" diameter and 3/16" thick. sorta pricey but 2 in series for a 5v zippo? good times indeed

doh. pd3555 means powerdisk 35mm dia x 5.5mm thick. other sizes available too

Here is a short video of my version of the Vippo mod.
Although I`m still adding the charging port yet.
Since I`m only on dial-up connection the video is kind of short with no video of the inside yet. But the pictures will be in the how to post once it`s ready.

This is with a drip tip on a 510 LR atomizer.
Zippo to the Lippo

Well I thought that sounded cool anyhow.

very very cool! I actually have quite a zippo collection, and now I'm getting ideas. lol

Hi guitarman023 from Marietta, Ohio :)
I was Born and raised in Ohio up in The Steubenville/Winterville Area.
I got me a new Zippo now to tear up
oh how shiny. Brand new.
Well that last one was new but the body been scratched up somewhat. Never seen a lighter fluid though.
I`d of never dreamed of drilling out a zippo. The E-cig is bad I`m telling you.

This one will be what the how to will be done with. It`s getting fitted with a cartomizer rather then a atomizer and drip tip. But I will include the atomizer option in the how to as well.

Very cool mod Connman, I know exactly where you were raised, cool area for motorcycles. Can't wait to see the how to. I'm going to be posting one as well as soon as I finish my e-hookah. :D

That is a really sexy mod, is it difficult to push that button in w/ your lips?

Hello HellaDank,
Actually that`s what surprised me. I was totally accepting pushing the switch with my finger and it was just so close to my lip I decided to try it. It worked way to well and easy. You could use your top lip just as easy.

If you was to say place a rod on top of the switch of a manual 510 battery and push that with your lip. That`s how hard it is. Well I also just now pushed the 510 battery to my lip at the switch. You can see how hard it is doing that as well.
