I'm using cellucotton as well. Need to rewick today. Was getting 5 or more hits last night. Performance drop today though. Going to try the short tails this time.

I see a lot of people say they've had the sub ohm kit put on their Reos. What is that? If I don't have it, do I need to stay at 1ohm or above?

The name "sub-ohm kit" has kind of hung around since people wanted better connections in their REO's.

But Robert did not give it that name.

New contacts were made for the REO's. Beryllium plated gold springs and top contact. Then Robert gave us a more heat resistant button.

All metal REO's since April were sold with new contacts.

The new rebuild kit for the REO's contains the upgraded parts. Also the new parts are available individually for purchase. You won't see "new" the new just replaced the existing parts.

With the older contacts it is advisable to stay above 1 ohm. Only go low ohm if your battery has enough amps!

Just FYI... I believe aw 1600mah 18650s can handle .5 at least...perhaps even lower.

I've been at .75 to .8 ohms on my grands with old fashioned contacts. Never have a problem but do have to apply naolox from time to time.

the 1600 is rated at 24 amps. Keeping a margin of only pushing 70% of max load that lets you go to 16.8 amps. So you can run a .25 ohm coil pushing 70.5 watts and still have a 30% safety margin.

Roxy is very happy! I'm getting 12+ hits per squonk. Made wick short on squonk hole side and touching the deck on the other side

I guess I'm the odd REOnaut out LOL.

Since I've gotten a REO/RM2 combo... I've never been able to get more than 2 hits per squonk. Anything more than that, dry hits. I originally kept the cotton (organic cotton ball pulled into wicks) tails super short (the one side by the squonk hole just barely past the coil, other side just barely touching the deck), but now I make the deck side longer so that it wraps back around the post. Even with it being slightly longer, I cannot go more than 2 hits per squonk.

Now, on my RM4, same shortness on one side, and just long enough to have about 1/4" laying on the deck. Still can't go more than 2 hits, or I risk a dry hit. I typically run a 12mg 50/50 blend.

So, in summary, I typically have to squonk every time I go to take a hit. Probably doesn't help any of you out, but that is my experience. The KGD that was sent to me, I might be able to get 3 hits, but I'm not risking it LOL.

This is truly a YMMV area where performance is effected by ohm of coil, length of hit, time between hits, coil build, wick type. I can only get 3 hits per squonk.
