So I've been vaping for a while now and I recently got into mods.

I currently have a Joye Ego-C Twist VV and have been using a Kanger T3S with it.
A couple days ago I ordered a Kamry K100 and built a Nimbus Dual Coil sub-ohm. So I'm wondering - is this really going to be an upgrade? Or did I waste my money? A coworker of mine let me hit his K100 (also using a sub-ohm atty), and it was marvelous.

So was this an upgrade from the Ego-C twist? Or am I going to be returning my K100? I guess I'm just a bit anxious while I wait for the K100 in the mail. I ordered it from Fairy-Gift, so I'm hoping for the best!

(My first post in the forum, although I've been lurking for quite a while now, heh)

That is a BIG upgrade lol. Also the same MOD I am interested in purchasing, so keep me updated on how you like it! I started with an ego-c also, switched after 2 months to a Smok WOO regulated MOD.

Cheers, and happy vaping!

Oh thank god, you really put my mind at ease, hah!
What can I expect when switching to this baby?

Thanks for the fast reply btw - in love with this forum already!

Mechanical mods are nice, you can take them apart, clean them, replace batteries instead of units, tank options are infinite....

I don't care for VV, so I use a MOD because why mess with what works? The battery performance should be much better than your Ego-c, once you find the best coils for your juice the flavor is better too.

A lot of it will still be the tank and cart you use.

So you may end up going as far as rebuild-able units, a lot of people use drip style ones for home use.

I can't imagine having to drip every time I want to vape though lol.

I've actually started dripping my T3S, and I find that it's really not that annoying as one might think. 4-5 drops and it'll last me a good while before I have to drip more. And yeah, I'm getting a Nimbus dual coil atomizer which is drip-only. Hopefully my juices will taste like they came from Virgin Mary.

Your battery won't be regulated anymore, so your vape will drop off as the battery depletes itself. This may or may not bother you, but you can get a kick for it if you want regulation.

Do protected batteries make a difference in a Mech like the 100?

Protected batteries are fine as long as your setup is not drawing more than what those batteries can handle. If your going to use an rba or otherwise make your own coils it's probably be wise to get high drain batteries which are a safer chemistry battery(unprotected), like the AW IMR's. In general I'd say if you're going to use a mechanical that can handle higher amp draws, might as well not skimp on batts and just get the high drains.

You don't want protected batteries, get safe chemistry batteries(usually IMR, but there are others also). The main difference between a mechanical mod and anything else is that YOU are the safety mechanism. You have to know which batteries to use, what kind of power draw they can handle, what resistance your atomizer is built to, how to detect a short, when to change your batteries before they get so drained that you ruin them, etc. So please, read up. BTW, what batteries did you order for your k100? What kind of charger did you get? Did you order wire and wick for your nimbus? Do you know how to figure out what amps your atomizer will draw at different voltages?

The questions Lessifer asked at the end of his post are spot on. Do yourself a favor and read up on Battery Safety. Baditude has several good blog entries regarding battery safety. I bought a Kamry K100 on Friday and didn't put a battery in it and fire it until I had through all of his blogs and understood what I had read. Basically, we are saying 'Do Your Homework'! It is a good mod at a good price and a nice choice, IMHO, but be safe!

Vape on!

So i was going on a 5 day cruise this Monday(right after I get the kit in the mail), is it really dangerous to use the stock batteries for 5 days with a sub-ohm atty? What can I do to prevent explosions in the mean time? If I wanted to inhale flames I'd go back to analogs :p

Definitely not going to be AW IMR batteries with what you ordered just going off of the mAh ratings. So until you DO get yourself a full set of AW IMRs (18650/18490/18350 or whatever combination of batteries you DO end up going with), do not build sub ohm on those batteries. Don't go below 1.8 ohms just to be on the safe side. No idea what the amp rating on those batteries you're getting are, so just be safe and build standard resistance coils.

And make sure you have something to check the ohms on the coils you're building, too, whether it's a regulated device (Vamo, eVic, Provari, SVD, MVP v2 etc etc), a multi meter, or a designated ohm meter.

--EDIT--

Also, please post the link you got your K100 from. Help us help you XD

I'm not saying this will happen, but what CAN happen if you overstress your batteries is they can be ruined so that they no longer hold a charge OR they can vent, which could be very bad in a confined metal tube.

So, what batteries are coming with your mod? Do you know what the amp rating is? If you don't know, I'd stick to resistances of 1.5 or above which will keep you below 3 amps.

The choice of course is yours, but consider which is more important to you, the safety of something you will be placing inches from your face, or a possibly better vape?

You should also have a digital multimeter, to check the resistance of your build, the voltage of your batteries before and after charging, and to solve any potential shorts you may have.

I'm not trying to scare you too much, just trying to get you to respect what it is you're working with.

The mah ratings you gave would be more helpful if you also had the C rating of the batteries, then you could figure out the amp limit.

I checked out the blog post you linked me.

It does come with cartos, so I'll use those until I get a battery capable of running my 0.4ohm dual coil setup.

I do own a multimeter, so I'll be sure to use it!

So what kind of battery will be 100% safe for a 0.4ohm. It's using a 28 gauge wire in two coils. (0.4ohm is the overall resistance).

A .4 ohm coil will push about 9.25 amps, so anything with an amp rating of 10 or higher will be safe to use. If you're going that low, might as well pick up a Sony battery (30 amp limit). Gonna just link you to the Fast tech listing.

$11.76 Sony US18650VTC3 18650 1600mAh 3.7V Rechargeable Li-ion Batteries (2-Pack) 2-pack - 30A discharge at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Should I still get a VapeSafe chip? Been looking into it, and it looks nice.

My buddy has an extra 10 amp battery for me :"D
