I have been using a protank with kanger 1.8 ohm coils for years. I like it because it almost never leaks, is virtually indestructible, easy to maintain, and gives me a decent vape. But it's been years since I've tried other products, so I assume there may be something newer on the market that is also indestructible and leak-resistant but produces more vapor. Any suggestions? Thank you.

I can't offer suggestions as while I have a lot of other devices I'm as happy with my nautilus Minis on iStick 30w outfits which is where I came in over five years ago as you've been with your Kanger kit, but I'll watch the thread with interest to see what comes up!
I'd recommend virtually any mod that takes external 18650 batteries. You'll want to get at least a 2-bay charger and 3 to 6 decent 18650 cells (depending on whether you choose a single cell or dual cell mod), as well. For the tank, I would recommend the rather funky looking Advken Owl tank. It's very leak resistant (but might flood on occasion), and take the ubiquitous baby beast compatible coils as well as at least 1 RBA. All of those coils will produce WAY more vapor than you ever thought about getting out of a Kanger 1.8ohm coil, and none (that I am aware of) will allow for a decent MTL vape.
Other top air, leak resistant tanks include the Augvape Intake Sub Ohm (but I have no experience with this one, and don't know about coil compatibility), the hard-to-find Smok X-Baby tank (hard to find coils, too, but there is an RBA), and the Geekvape Zeus tank (again, no experience with this one, so can't say what coils are available).
Too much? Maybe consider an AIO like the Aspire Mulus. It can use Aspire Nautilus coils (almost as readily available as the baby beast compatible coils), Tigon coils, or an RBA.
Beyond those recommendations, there are A LOT of pod systems and AIOs out there... try a few... have fun...

You might want to try the Innokin Zenith MTL tanks, especially since you've been used to the Protanks. I highly recommend the Zeniths, and they have a large number of other fans here on ECF, too.
They make a 4mL, 23-24mm diameter one; a D22 Zenith which holds 3mL and is 22mm in diameter; and also a smaller D22 that holds 2mL and is 22mm in diameter. They are by far...my absolute all-time favorite drop-in coil tanks. The amount of vapor from them is great, and so is the flavor using the Z-coils! They're all nearly indestructible, top-fill, don't leak, have multiple airflow adjustment holes, are easy-peasy to change out the coil, and many of us get about 2 weeks off each Z-coil. In that time I run about 140-155mLs through it.
The coils come in a variety of resistances, too. Many of us prefer the 1.6ohm ones. Probably the next most popular 1 is the 0.8ohm. There are others, too, that are lower than that, and a new 1.2ohm IIRC. They come in packs of 5, and can be bought for as little as $6.10/box.
IF you'd like to buy 1 to try...if you'll send me a PM, I'll pass along a link to a US vendor who has the full-size, 4mL, Zenith in stainless steel... for less than $9.00 + S/H. It would come with a 0.5ohm coil installed in the tank, but there will also be 1 of the 1.6ohm coils in the box, too. So you could try both. That's a terrific deal because they're normally $19.99 even when on a rare sale. They were regularly about $22-32 for about the first year they were on the market. If it turns out that you like the tank...that vendor has a lot of them, so you should be able to get more if you wanted to at the same really low price.

I second JCinFLA's suggestion for the Innokin Zenith's.
I have been using the Eleaf GS Air M which is similar to the Protank for Years, and unfortunately the Coils are not easily found so I had to find a solution. The Coils in the GS Air M do not last but I have been very satisfied with them to date. Once my Eleaf stash is gone I will be switching to the Zenith's full time with an ample stash of Tanks & Coils.
I am not a cloud blower so the Zenith was perfect for me plus I really like the 1.6 Ohm Coils for my preferred Mods. Flavor is good and the Coils last. I will also try the 0.8 Ohm Coils but the majority of my stash is the 1.6 Ohm Coils.
Shoot a PM to JCinFLA and I would buy more than 1 and you will also receive assistance where to accumulate some Coils. The really unique thing about the Zenith is the Threads are on the Coil and not the Tank. I burned through a number of Eleaf GS Airs since the Threads wore out on the Tank.

It really depends on your vaping style (MTL or DL) Personally, I like loose MTL and restricted DL. It mostly has to do with draw (tight or loose) and watts (cool or warm vape)
Nope, they don't have the Zlide. But if you'll PM me, I'll tell you where to get 1 of them for less than $10 + S/H.
With a Kanger PT and 1.8 coil, the OP is mtl.

I have both the zlide and the Zenith and prefer the Zenith, myself. Easy to change coils, top fill, great airflow (I'm a mouth to lung vaper who likes it airy) and the coils last a long time. That deal JCinFla mentioned is GREAT for coils. I bought a bunch. Also bought myself 10 more Zenith tanks that should last me a LONG time since the things are sturdy. Took mine to the beach last year and dropped it in the sand (dumb). Flushed the grit out, and the thing is still working fine. Only thing not great is that you can't really disassemble it to clean but if you have a spare - or 10 
- you can leave it to air dry after you clean it for a day or two.
To me, the Zenith seems the more sturdy tank. Well built, a bit heavy, but a beast with great flavor - and I vape mostly unflavored liquid. I get a nicer, sweeter flavor from the Zenith. I popped it onto the new Adept tank I got and MAN is it nice! Doesn't leak unless you leave the top fill open by accident and lay it down...don't ask...

I use the Zenith on my 30w iSticks, too. Fits fine and vapes great at between 10 to 12w.
Washed and put away my Nauti's after I got the Zenith. If I ever run out of the Z's I can always drag the Nauti back out - but I won't enjoy it as much, I'm sure.

Nothing tank is going to withstand dropping for very long. I might take 4 drops to break the tank, but it will break. Or it might take only one drop. Just gotta be careful.
You can always try the Vaporesso Forz tank, which is the tank that comes with the Forz TX80 kit. But I have my doubts even that tank will withstand the impact of falls forever.
However, looks like you'll need a mod that a 27mm tank will fit on. So 25mm mods that have a top, protruding battery cap like the Swag 2, Pico 25 or Pico 21700 may not fit that tank.
Those links are to a china retailer. Not sure if you can find the Forz tank alone in your country.

It is not as major an upgrade as I thought it would be. The Kanger vocc's I was using for years put out a similar amt of vapor. But 1 out of 5 of those Kanger coils is DOA, so hopefully that won't be the case with the Zenith coils.
