Another oxygen/smoking related fire in town. Statistics for smoking related fires are almost as alarming as cancer rates.

USFA Smoking & Home Fires

After reading the materials I decided to contact them and ask why no mention of safer alternatives:
I find it interesting that no mention was made of safer tobacco/smoking alternatives such as electronic cigarettes or chewing tobacco/SNUS. Instead you continue to promote the use of traditional FSC cigarettes. Electronic cigarettes, although in a battle with another Federal branch provide a markedly reduced risk to the smoker, as well as almost completely eliminating the possibility of fires. One in five Americans over 18 smoke and many will never quit, even when attached to an oxygen tank!! Please consider adding information about alternatives to smoking in your material. If you are going to essentially advertise for big tobacco, you might as well advertise for the safer alternative.

In an effort to garner additional support for electronic cigarettes, we need to continue to campaign all agencies that can lend validity to the Safer Alternative to Smoking... safer on so many levels, the argument against them are motivationally suspect.

Welcome to ECF! We had a house in our neighborhood that was completely destroyed from smoking. The owner smoked before going to work and emptied the ashtray into the garbage before leaving the house. (Oops)

What the fire didn't destroy, the firemen did with their water hoses.

Hope your neighbor got some homeowners insurance!
